Reacting to AMERICAN SNIPER (2014) | Movie Reaction Развлечения
Chris was a Navy Seal - among America's most elite warriors. When you qualify as a seal (very hard to do) you earn the right to wear the seal's symbol on your uniform - a gold pin with an eagle carrying a trident, anchor and flintlock pistol. When a seal dies, all of the seals in that part of the country attend the funeral and hammer their trident pin into the coffin lid. That's what was on Chris's coffin.
That's not what I understand the meaning of hammering your pin into a fallen soliders coffin to be.
First off, let's see if I got your reason right. You say the pins are fixed on a fallen comrades coffin, right? While that makes some sense, what if more than one member of your squad dies. How do you choose where to put the pin? I heard, and I believe this, that the solider who saves your life is whose coffin you put it on.
That's why at that funeral scene earlier in the movie you see the coffin with only one row of about 5-7 pins on it. Chris's coffin was covered with them because he saved so many soldiers lives.😢
@@chiefsteps-in-poo8447 You can requisition more pins. You are absolutely INCORRECT with what you believe. Those were all SEAL pins respecting a fallen comrade, and they flew in from all over the country to honor him, which is why he had so many.
Why do know it alls like you, who DON'T know what you are talking about, feel the need to but in and push your incorrect BS?
@@cliveklg7739
Hold up, swolled up. Did I say the man was wrong? I simply said that I understand that tradition to have a different meaning. I wouldn't know yay or nay either way. I'm just saying it makes sense seeing how Kyle saved so many lives that he'd have so many pins decorating his coffin.
@@chiefsteps-in-poo8447 I've heard it both ways. I've seen some seals' coffins covered like Chris's was and others with only a few. By the way, they issue you more than one pin if you need it.
@@nittyblahblah8939
Thanks for that lesson. Obviously I didn't, nor did my parents, know the traditions of the army or their basic rituals. I will no longer pretend to know anything about the habits of the military. If we get into a war soon, and we probably will, I won't be drafted even though I'm only 45 (dain bramage). I don't mean to sound so formal, but I didn't know how else to sound when I'm wrong.
Yes,Chris and his friend Chad Littlefield were both killed on a shooting range on February 2nd 2013 by a former marine Eddie Ray Louth, who both men were trying to help.
Routh was suffering from PTSD and was also diagnosed with schizophrenia,(although at the trial, forensic psychologist Randall Price suspected that he was faking symptoms)
His reason for shooting them was that he was in the back of the truck and both men were ignoring him and wouldn't talk to him.
He is currently serving life in prison with no chance of parole
I haven’t seen this movie in a long time. But that scene where Chris is sitting in his living room with the TV off and completely checked out. That is the realist depiction of ptsd I have ever seen. Almost brought me to tears the first time I saw that scene.
Same. Been there.
When I saw this in theaters with my elder brother (both drunk) and that scene came up, he leaned over and said "That caught me off guard but accurate" and we took a shot out of his flask he smuggled in
Taya Kyle, his wife, was forced out of her home after Chris was murdered. They were promised the house but the company that owned it changed their mind and told her she would have to buy it or start paying rent. She moved. The company was holding Chris's rifle he used in the war as a down payment on the house. Taya bought the gun for $50,000. That company that screwed this family over so many times is gone. Bankrupt. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Taya and the children are doing well. She wrote a book. A memoir. It's called "American Wife: A Memoir of Love, War, Faith, and Renewal". I haven't read it yet but always meant to. I will someday.
This sounds tipical USA...
I feel proud to say that I used to teach at the high school from which Chris K. graduated. Chris is certainly an American hero that will never be forgotten. Thank you to Chris and all others that have served to make the world a better place.
When the real Chris Kyle found out that Bradley Cooper was going to play him, he said he had to tie him to the back of his pickup truck and drag him a few miles to knock the pretty off him.
Chris died before they started making this movie. He didn’t know there was going to be a movie let alone know Bradley was playing him.
@@yournightmare6587he he didn’t Bradley had 1 phone conversation with him before never got to meet him in person. Fun Fact: Most seals averaged 7-10 tridents on their coffin out there by those closest to them usually their teammates and other seals they served with. Chris Kyle had 160 Tridents in his coffin more than any other SEAL a true testament to the amount of lives he impacted.
This was a true story. The motorcade and funeral procession at the end were real. His memorial service filled the stadium.
My son was in the Navy while Kris was also in and he was a hero to my son. My son took it hard when Kris was killed. So sad for such a great warrior.
To your son, God Bless and thank you.
Chris
comitting warcrimes is not heroic
What kind of a "great warrior" lies about punching old men in a bar? Kyle even lied about shooting random black people in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

I like how you mentioned Jocko because Jocko was in charge of Task Unit Bruiser, which Chris was a part of
spotter
Snipers usually work with a spotter in teams of two - they're rarely in the field alone. The role of the spotter is often left out of movies, but it's actually the more important of the two. The spotter is the team leader.
i saw on a program , that the spotter sniper also is a better shot and can use the provided tech to a better level than the trigger sniper.
@@wretchedspawn22 cool 😎
Spotters are almost just as responsible for a made shot as the shooter themselves. The information they provide is invaluable.
/ security. But bingo well at least the army guy/marine was security.
This was a true story, of course. The guy who shot him also shot a guy named Chad Littlefield at the same time at a gun range. It si a sad story. The bad thing was how many people gave Chris a hard time for writing his Autobiography which included his time as a sniper. It is sad...
Well if he didn't tell a bunch of lies, then maybe he wouldn't have.

@@sparkysjoint1616 Really? That's disappointing. The movie portrays him as a very down to earth, stand-up guy. But I guess being a hero doesn't make you humble.
Great reaction. Though not in war, Chris still died in the service of his country. Such patriotism is so rare these days.
Those are the seal crest hammered in to the castet. Yes the man had ptsd and jealous. Chris was a nice guy, got to meet him a few times. And his percesion was huge. He tought me alot to manage my ptsd as a sniper. I still get shakes but he helped me alot mentally. Thank you for your reactions and your care for our troops
If you want a truly great late period Eastwood film, Richard Jewell is a powerful work with some of the best performances I've seen in a while.
Saw this in the theatre. During the funeral procession at the end, no one moved. No one spoke. Then when the lights came up, everyone walked out in silence. Cool experience.
"Close those groupings" .............. have your shots closer together. This is based on a true story.
Veteran's Administration. It's one of the largest US Federal Agencies in the US Government. It includes an entire medical system for Veterans.
Veterans Affairs
@@dancing_odie Yes, I stand corrected. United States Department of Veterans Affairs, department.va.gov/about/
Chris Kyle and snipers from Team 3 covered my unit in Sadr City. Those guys helped immensely, but I didnt know Chief Kyle though we were in close proximity. Later, on my way through texas I called his office and he invited me over and signed a copy of his book for me and we had a nice chat at craft. Short but it was nice. He died shortly after. I was very sad for Taya and Chris' children. They are doing well now, so I hear.
The freedom and liberty most people take for granted everyday comes at great cost to a select few. I see it in in ways most people don't. As a Navy Gulf War vet I made the decision to get involved with and become a volunteer for Project Healing Waters a decade ago to help those less fortunate me.
Thank you for your service. Thank you for fighting for me. Love you.
No war that America has been involved in since 1945 has been for "defending freedom and liberty".
Culturally America is snared in this romanticization of the American War Machine - y'all are falling for propaganda.
Iraq was about geo-political advantage, oil and the shareholder profits of Halliburton/Exxon Mobil/Chevron etc.
Even Gen. Smedley Butler acknowledged this in the 30's with his book 'War Is A Racket', where he described the very military he was a part of as being "Bully-boys for Wall Street".
Tears. Every single time, the end brings me to tears. Absolute tragedy.
dawn as an american. and of kent heritage. a vet. you blew me away, this choice. iraq. so close to home. it is what it was. at least, for me. great review.
Not sure if anybody else has mentioned it but the other person with Chris (sniper) is what they call a spotter. Essentially a second pair of eyes looking at bigger picture while sniper is concentrating through scope
The badge is called the Trident or in the Navy the Budweiser tells everyone you are in the teams
The videos of his funeral procession gets me every time. Ive participated in funeral processions for firefighters and it was surreal, but none ever had the kind of attendance that his had.
LONE SURVIVOR is another movie based on a true story about some navy seals. Incredible story and movie.
Yea, the world kind of sucks as it turns out. I was in Dallas when the funeral drove by. It went on forever. He meant a lot to many.
I'm still really looking forward to a reaction from you for Clint Eastwood's
MILLION DOLLAR BABY (2004)
Clint Eastwood, Hilary Swank,
Morgan Freeman.
The guy who's chilling with the sniper is there to watch his back and make sure nobody sneaks up on him from behind
"Did that really happen? Do we know why? Do we know why he did it?" Yes, it did. Chris Kyle and a friend took the 25-year-old veteran, Eddie Routh, to a gun range in an attempt to help him with his PTSD (like was shown in the earlier clip with other vets). However, Routh had also been diagnosed with schizophrenia, and on the way to the shooting range, Kyle texted his friend, "This dude is straight-up nuts." Once at the range, Routh shot and killed both Kyle and his friend with Kyle's own guns. (They had obviously been surprised, as they both had holstered weapons with safeties on when they died.)
Several months later (in jail), Routh told a former sheriff's deputy, "I was just riding in the back seat of the truck, and nobody would talk to me. They were just taking me to the range, so I shot them. I feel bad about it, but they wouldn't talk to me. I'm sure they've forgiven me." Routh has been imprisoned for life with no possibility of parole.
“Act of Valor” is a pretty interesting movie if you’re into this stuff. They got real active duty Navy SEALs to star in the roles. It took them a while to complete the movie because they could only film in between their deployments. IMO, the acting is rather subpar ( understandably ), but having real SEALs, real tactics and a pretty good plot line makes up for it.
the sdv stuff and swcc scene was a real treat. the rest was just fluff
In the late 90's I had a boss and he was a Navy sniper he said his knees hurt from all the time he spent crouching in trees and bushes. However he NEVER spoke about his kills or missions NEVER. John was the best boss I ever had.
Clint Eastwood is an excellent director. He also did a pair of movies about the WW2 Battle of Iwo Jima in the Pacific that were released together, one from the American side and the other from the Japanese side:
"Flags of Our Fathers" (2007)
"Letters from Iwo Jima" (2007)
It helps me to believe that there are more good people in the world than bad people. "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice". Good people help to bend the arc. Every day, in big and small ways. You're one of the good people. Keep doing what you're doing.
I absolutely agree with you. The unfortunate thing is that most good deads go unnoticed or aren't considered headline news while acts of evil such as theft, cruelty and violence are front page news. As well as tragedies that are not man made like earthquakes, floods and tornadoes. That's a large part of the reason that so many people are convinced that the world is such a terrible place but the vast majority of people are decent and kind or at the very least not a threat to their communities.
The older you get, the more the ratio of good people / bad people changes. At 36, having already seen enough from the average person in all sorts of environments and locations… it’s approaching 60/40 bad/good.
@@30AndHatingIt You're in your 30's? You're still very young. You still have a lot to learn.
Yeah that definitely isn't true and is quite a naive way of thinking to be honest
Yet he was killed. It's fine to stand up for your belief. It's fine to push against oppression. Understand, you will almost certainly die doing so. So ask yourself : Is that ok? Because warriors will stand up. Everyone else will say no.
The Movie and this Reaction Video gave me Chills....
Dawn Marie is a very kind Person! I'm always impressed how awesome she is!
The World needs more people like her!!!!
Some people were bred to be warriors. Chris Kyle was a warrior. He was killed trying to help and support his own. His legend will live on forever. God rest your soul Chris Kyle and may you rest in peace.
The tridents on the casket is a Navy Seal tradition. When a Seal dies, Seal’s attending the ceremony pin their tridents to the casket.
Snipers always work in 2-man teams, sniper and spotter.
And this spotter was portrayed as not really doing much, but in reality they are just as important as the other one. They're more than just a team, they can't work without each other.
@n0madtv they can actually.
The meaning of close those groupings means to close shot closer to the bullet holes
I graduated High School in 2001 and after 9/11 I joined the Army. My MOS was 96Bravo and stationed at Fort Lost in the Woods. Only did 4 years which is one of my biggest regrets, I wish I had spent more time but was young.
The guy who you ask what he's doing is a marine. He watches Kyle's back because he's focused downrange. Realistically in Ramadi there were 5-20 guys to maintain a sniper hide. IYKYK
If nobody's said this, the part where the Drill Sargent told Chris to "Close those groupings" what he meant was that he needed to get his shots closer together. It's an exorcize in long range accuracy
As a veteran who was also a Navy Wife I understood his wife's feelings. Perhaps I was a bit more understanding than most but I can't stress how hard it is when they leave for almost a year at a time, especially when you have kids. No one holds things together like a military spouse/parent. Chris was a hero but so is his wife. She absolutely knew what a good man she married. He was one in a million. Fair winds and following seas sailor 🙏⚓
The real hero is the guy who executed Chris Kyle and his war criminal friend.
@@lucasgrey9794 You sound like an edgy Al-Qaeda sympathizer there kiddo. Let's calm down, okay?
@@youreadingleberry7434 So you still believe that Al-Qaeda isn't a CIA black op. Predictable.
The flyer you saw about Texas Stadium, nearly 7,000 people attended that. There are heads of state that can't get that.
At about 11:20, you're exactly correct. The sniper is a "guardian angel" for the troops.
The scene where he is sitting in front of the tv watching a black screen, and all he hears is bullets and explosions breaks me everytime..
Thank you for being so sincere. Thanks.
21:47
I'm impressed. Not many reactors catch that little fact.
It was filmed, in the knowledge that everyone already knew the tragic story. Which is why you were confused at the end. With all the Why? questions.
It was a heartfelt, heart-breaking movie, that gave a fitting tribute to an incredible patriot, husband, father, soldier and an all over, good man.
13:54 - Snipers are never alone, so he's there to protect his back. Snipers don't just kill, most of their job is to survey the area, keep watch and take notes. While they do that, they got someone with them to watch over in case the enemy tries to sneak up on them. They also help the snipers with distances, wind speed and point spotting.
The guy that "sits" with Chris is his spotter. But in this instance most likely his protector. Watching for anyone coming up the stairs.
To think that the violence displayed by the terrorists in these movies are nothing compared to what they do in real life. The military needs 100s of men like Chris.
when dawn said "and play" and instantly hit with unskipable ad 🤣
I remember the day Chris died very well. I did not know him i had only read his book and watched his interviews and such. But as an American i loved and appreciated him and every single other service member. But also as a fellow Texan, we all have a special bond and relationship with each other. I am unfortunately a callus and hard man, but this story cuts me deep. Seeing that funeral procession, as proud as it makes me how we sent him home, it destroys me every time i see it. A man that did all he did, to come home and die like that. I know God knows all and is all knowing, but i am a man and it makes me angry. I have recently discovered your channel, really enjoying your content. And thank you for this one in particular.
I live here in Dallas, Texas really close to where the Kyle's lived in Midlothian, Texas. I was on one of the bridges when the funeral precession passed under. Chris and another friend both got shot and killed at a gun range by a veteran with PTSD they were trying to help.
I weep every time I watch this movie. Such a loss of a truly good man. RIP Chris Kyle.
Usually when seals pass, pins are placed on their coffins, how many they get is based on who’s close to them,in one of the shots the seal has 10 pins,Chris had 165,it really shows the effect he had on people
13:54 "What does that guy, sittin' with him? What does he actually do? 'Cause he's just, he's not really doin' anything. Is he there for a reason?"
Oh, he's the _spotter._ _Every_ sniper needs one of them. They find, watch and assign targets, watch to see whether the shot hit or missed with the use of a specialized telescope, they make calculations for distance and angle, and they try to read the direction and strength of the wind which is _essential_ to the sniper's _aim._
VA is Veterans Affairs. It’s an agency here in the US tasked with helping military veterans.
In the Marines, you didn't choose to be a sniper, the STA plt chose you. We were selected from the conventional infantry based on our field performance and proficiencies. Most are lCpl or junior Cpl. It's not what you would if you wanted the safe route in combat. 2 men klicks inside the enemy territory, scouting, tracking, and surveilling often outside the envelope of supporting assets.
I used to drive Over- The- Road (18 wheeler, tractor-trailer, big rig, etc.), I was supposed to deliver a load about a block away in the rubble zone, I would have been buried add crushed. I got the call Sunday morning that my load had been canceled at the last second.I woke up Tuesday morning just before the second plane hit the tower, I thought it was a movie or something, until a local newsmember came on the screen. At the time I had a 2 year old daughter and a 2 month old daughter, and I have never been so happy to not have worked a day in my life. That was the luckiest phone call of my life. Anyway, loved the review, love you, take care and stay safe. ❤
Snipers usually have spotters with them so the spotters usually have telescopes or binoculars to spot the target the sniper needs to shoot and says the distance and wind direction if he has the info. Or hes there to protect the sniper or he’s another sniper to replace him when he needs a rest or gets hurt
Snipers are never alone. They have spotters with them. They help watch and spot targets. They also watch the snipers back. When you're looking down the scope of a gun for hours at a time, it's hard to be aware of your surroundings. You're too busy looking out for othera, so you need someone looking out for you.
Navy Seal snipers are trained to sit still and not sleep for up to 75 hours. They even pee on themselves so they don't have to move.
I volunteer with US Veterans Initiative, Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield were walking down range to the targets at a shooting range they had taken fellow
veteran Eddie Routh to , when he shot and killed both of them.
It's rare sniper work alone, he has a spotter with him, also him protect sniper back when they're on duty
Military context:
3 ft = 1 yard
The man that sits with Chris is his spotter, he confirms the kills he makes.
Chris also wrote 2 books. American Sniper and American Gun. I highly recommend both of them.
Absolutely amazing movie. Cooper did an amazing job at playing, and honoring Chris Kyle. And the guy who is always sitting with Chris is usually a guard. He’s just there to make sure he’s protected.
Close those groupings means aim all your shots on one target closer together so a perfect grouping would be like 3 bullets biting same area as the first bullet hit. So it it it’s one shot then the other 2 shots through the same hole that the first bullet hit looking like one shot. Just means what you are aiming at to make sure your bullets hit the target closer together
I’m glad you mentioned Jocko I was rewatching it earlier today and the end where they show photos from the funeral I’m 99% sure you can see Jocko in the background
The extra guy is the spotter. He calls distance wind and scope adjustment
He's called a spotter.
Extra pair of eyes.
Very important job
I highly recommend a tv series called Generation Kill. It stars Alexander Skarsgard and I guarantee you’ll love it. Set during the invasion of Iraq it follows the exploits of an American marine reconnaissance battalion. It’s only 7 episodes and some of the antics of the main characters will crack you up. It’s based on the experiences of a Rolling Stone journalist who was embedded with the troops.
Like other people have mentioned - the other guy is a spotter. But in reality, snipers would have like 10 guys with them covering both the sniper and the spotter.
When a Navy Seal dies all the Seals in attendance of a fellow Seals funeral, they remove their seal emblem, and hammer it in the coffin as a symbol of respect. This is the only special forces unit that does this so it’s very special.
Chris Kyle was a very troubled man. He had PTSD. And was killed by a soldier he was trying to help deal with his PTSD.
Interesting 😊
The guy who hangs out with him is basically his bodyguard to watch his rear, and to answer your question that if you get it wrong, then that means that you killed innocent person and you have to live with it.
He was a true Texas legend and I will never forget the day of his funeral.
That was and still a bad and sad day for all of us Veterans. Kris will always be with us in our hearts and he will forever be missed Mike B. Bravo Co. 1972
"close those groupings"
Just means to get your impacts closer to each other. If you look at the steel he's got 3 or 4 bullet impacts in probably a 6" area. More than likely they're shooting at 100y so a 6" group is pretty garbage. You want at most a 1" group per 100y- 1" @ 100, 2" @ 200, 3" @ 300, etc
The guy sitting with him is supposed to be his security.
"I dont like when it's dark, it's hard to see"
Yuh lol
Chris Kyle, didn't this guy claim he went on top of the football stadium in new orleans? Shot & killed looters during a hurricane? That dude had some serious problems. RIP
He told a couple "over-the-top" sniper hero/anti-hero stories like that set here in the U.S., but they're not supported by the existence of any dead bodies or police reports. One can only assume he told such stories for his own amusement, to teach a lesson, or for some other motive like that.
When the credits started rolling in the theaters it was so quiet you could hear a mouse scurrying around in the walls.
Closing the groupings refers to tightening the impacts of the the rounds into the smallest amount of space.
Whenever you hear about sniping or sharp shooting, you will tend to hear terms like "MOA", or "group", or "MILs". MOA stands for minute of angle. It's a unit of measurement. Because of the weight of the bullet, speed, twist rate, temperature, distance, wind, ballistic coefficient, humidity, even curvature of the earth can play a part in long distance marksmanship. The experience of the shooter will help them to aquire data, or "dope" to calculate and determine how to adjust for each shot, depending on the conditions.
It's hard, complicated, and you had better know your math.
There are ballistic computers to help, but when learning, you should always do it the hard way to get the fundamentals down.
BTW, Chris Kyle said his hero was Carlos Hathcock. An absolute legend in the sniper community.
The way you reacted just proves that you have a heart! Great reaction.
Chris defininately must've seen the movie Enemy at the Gates at least once. It's an unspoken rule to watch that movie at least once if you're a military sharpshooter.
Actually that's my favourite sniper film, for its style, for the fact is was set in WW2's eastern front (which for western movies almost never happens), and just some excellent actors doing their thing.
I was stationed in texas when Chris's funeral happened my unit i dont know if others did but they let us either have the day off to mourn the loss of chris and me and about 25 people went to Dallas to pay our respects near the stadium as the motorcade drove past
"I thought he only was shot in the face" lmao
This happened because there isn’t enough help for veterans that sacrifice everything for us. Im not making excuses for the guy that killed Chris, but there needs to be more help for our veterans. The amount of homeless veterans living on the streets is absolutely disgusting.
Guy that sits with him is there to protect Chris if the enemy finds his position and tries to kill him, and also as a spotter
To answer your question : 6-18 months. You could get assigned a tour then never see your spouse for about a year. That's not including those who did consecutive tours.
I watch this movie the same time and I always wondered about that sound I think it's a heartbeat
Movies usually have a happy ending. Unfortunately life doesn't always have a happy ending.
R.I.P. Chris Kyle.
The "VA" is the "Veterans Administration." Motto: "We hate vets." Mind you, that was back in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Things may be different now.
The badge is the "Budweiser Badge," as SEALs call their badges.
