But then again, there is always the possibility that what you are asking for is not in accordance with God's plans for you. As God can see our future and we cannot, we need to trust in His plan. He knows how to steer us towards Heaven based on what is going to happen to us in life.

As for altars, we don't build altars to anyone except for God. Some people have a shrine in honor of a saint, but that is only optional and not necessary.
