I was at the Aquarium on Saturday with my wife and 3 kids and I looked out to the water and saw such an amazing wave! There were many surfers and it looked mind blowing. To see these videos after the fact and learn how special the wave was is pretty cool!

I didn't even read the description and I instantly knew that it was Kai. I think that has to be the best compliment that any artist, musician or surfer can get. Kai is like Picasso, the board is his brush and the wave is his canvas. LOL!! That sounds so cheesey but it's very accurate..
A month before this you would of never dreamed that this would happen . This is like a bonus extra best day of your life surfing. Ya,? No?. You can tell just by your body posture, when paddling and dripping in you had every intention of making that wave. Nothing was in your way , week, except for a couple drop ins. It's happens. Not ENOUOH clearly to even bother you. Ya? N0?. Your like probly the best waterman ever lived. Who does more? Take the cake bro. And humble at it . Carry yourself like water.

What a star! I had no idea you had the camera in your mouth for the other video! Freakin' amazing! Great filming and editing, too, I just gotta say. And I like the song. The only surfer I know died about 2 weeks ago, I'd have loved to have shown these to him (he was ancient and ready to go, it wasn't a loss, he was ready.) Though it might have killed him with excitement, ya never know. I hope you get many more legendary days of waves!

Just food for thought. This beautiful wave was almost destroyed by a proposed harbor project. Another Killer Dana or Stanley's. Surfers and concerned citizens including I believe Surfride Foundation fought it. Let's give thanks to community activism.
I was driving through the area towards Kaanapali and was wondering what all the traffic was. Backed up all the way before the Harbor exits. Wish I could've stopped by, wifey was in a mad hurry to lunch at Leodas damm
Best swell in 17 years... There's actually been swells as good as this one before. I've ridden it twice myself like this. But it's definitely been a while.
Only remember it getting this good twice before this swell in 2005 code red Tahiti swell and in 91 when mike Stewart chased the swell from Tahiti to Freights to the wedge then to Alaska. We’ve gotten swells and it got good but none like this caliber it was so consistent and bombing was insane everywhere was bombing I don’t think it was like this when you surfed it sorry bruddah!!!
Where is freight trains? On the South shore of Maui at a break called Ma’alaea When does it crank? Rarely this perfect and this big, maybe once every one to two decades Why did it crank? Because of an epic South swell coming from the South Pacific, whereas most big swells that hit the Hawaiian island come from storms in the Northern pacific crossing from Russia/China to Alaska or the Northwest U.S. What was so different? The huge size, super fast speed, perfect shape, and incredibly long barrels What size board was he riding on the day? Not sure, but it looked like he was by far the fastest surfer out there. The barrels were moving so incredible fast down the line, that many guys were having the waves close out on them, but Kai was racing down the line at what looked like about 25 km/hr.
