Some dry brushing on the fans to make them more industrial looking and making the Soldering Iron itself into something more lore friendly would be a cool little extra step (even just some basic decals and pinstriping would do, though I say greeblies too lol).
I've never had a proper soldering station, most of my wire, my tip cleaner, flux, is all in a grocery bag hanging on a nail in the shop. Another BAD habit to break, Hanging things on nails is just begging for an injury. Very inspirational!
One thing I always need to use with my soldering station is some extra light... So maybe a nice LED-Screen in Deathstar look or some Holoprojectors added to this... I love the ideas that comes with this :)
I always love your enthusiasm when you say "Whats up awesome geeks?!!!" You have a great style, and I always look forward to your next project. MTFBWY!
Great build Brian! I think I’m going to make mine out of an old DeWalt case so it can fold up and store away with ease. I will most definitely Star Wars up the inside and outside of the case!
I totally get where you are coming from when you talk about avoiding certain tools when they are inconvenient. I used to be that way with air tools because the compressor was loud and a pain to get out and setup. No to mention tripping all over the hose. So I put it in a closet and ran permanent air lines on the ceiling of my shop and now I use it all the time. I think I'll do the same as you did with the soldering station. I love the way yours turned out!
100% I was the same with the compressor too, then i put it in the assembly table with a permanent line and BOOM! Hope you make a soldering station as well. We are going to be doing more of these projects, they really help workflow for sure!
Great job! Getting all my soldering supplies ready is also the reason why I put off finishing my project’s sometimes. Thank you for the inspiration. Be safe and have a great day. Thank you for helping me and others get through some rough times with these great videos.
The only thing tough about these times are the crazy gov. The virus Don't scare me a bit you know flu shots inject flu into you thousands and thousands of people die from flu and we didn't shut the whole world Down and it ain't gonna be going Away the flu has been around over 2 hundred years it's a virus
A pretty great project. I usually shortcut with premade circuits so I don't have to solder and wire things up. It is one of my failings as a maker of things.
Now this is a great project with ton of use and keeping everything organized. A ppace for everything and everything in its place comes mind. Very cool!
Nice build. I would recommend sandwiching a carbon filter between the front grill & the fans. It will help with the fumes. A rotary knob behind the knob above the fan switch would be cool to be able to adjust the fan speed.
Great stuff as usual and I enjoyed how you tied in the theme of what you like while making something practical! People don't understand how you can have fun and enjoy practical things at the same time. Stay Safe!
My wife (Carissa) insists that at least some of our wild and crazy projects have some practicality to them! Most have to stay in the shop though... this will streamline our work while soldering, and we can't wait to do more projects like this! Thank you for your comments and for watching!
Brian, as always the scripting, concept, focus and execution is on point ! I have to admit, that I enjoy the torturous photo teasers throughout the pics on Instagram and Facebook. Just when I think I know what the project will be, I a way off, but happily surprised at the even higher level project you created. As for this Geek, I am inspired. I don't know how you come up with the ideas, planning, execution and documentary each week...but I can't wait for the next one.
Excellent, i just bought a soldering iron and was wondering how to organize it. Looking at yours gives me plenty of ideas. For instance, i think i want mine to fold up like a briefcase and looking how yours is configured it seems possible with a bit of careful Tetrissing of all the components. Not sure it will look as good as yours but it will definately be cargo container orange with plenty of weathering😉
Might try to fit a foam window AC filter by your fans to trap any particles at the station. That way your not just blowing them around the shop. Just a thought.
Years ago I purchased a used rifle from a state prison the stock had a deposit of what I call hand wax common on old car steering wheels and stick shifts kind of a black rough surfacing of oil, skin, sweat like plastic dip or truck bed liner. Another item that could be a weathering is blood and/or alien goo/gore remember the acid blood in Alien... Think “solvent dissolved styrene packing peanuts”. I use to back fill models for weight with this. I had two costumes of Conventions one was a Corillian smuggler, the other was a blue denim smuggler using the same basic accessories, that allowed me to change clothing.
Awesome work. I just found your channel and subscribed. How is it that you only have 38k subscribers.....i see a million in your future. Keep up the great work.
Sweet! Looks awesome and soldering equipment is one I resisted getting out for a long time too. You could probably fit some filters on the fans to make it extra safe!
Wow, this came out really awesome! As a guy who does alot of rewiring on electric guitars, i can appreciate this whole unit! Only thing i see your missing...and something i use almost everytime i do a wiring job is a really nice, bright light. If you can't see what your doing, your gonna make mistakes, and i've made plenty over the years lol! Never underestimate the power of a great light =)
@@TheSmugglersRoom you do know why they call it the fsrkside right? It's not because they are evil, it's because they don't have enough lighting in their work stations lol😂😂
You might want to incorporate a screen filter to keep your fans cleaner longer. Also, most soldering stations take ESD into consideration. A separate bench is used for powered testing operations.
I would have used some rare earth magnets to hold some things in place, like the tip cleaner. Also would look a bit nicer if you could hide that power supply somehow. Knowing my electronics projects I'd need more than four helping hands too. Awesome project!
Hmm... I can tell a geek when I see one. Whether it's medieval times or Star wars, I can always tell, especially if they have a life size R2 unit sitting behind them😂... Of course the kinda Star wars theme of your soldering station also helps to give it away, although, those fan grills remind me of the empire ships, so I don't know why you didn't make your fan grills have a red glow behind them, which for whatever reason is so prevalent on empire ships. Honestly though, good job... I am looking for ideas on building my own soldering station, albeit more portable in size, as I have a small TS100 iron coming in the mail from iFixit, and your video, as well as others, have given me a few ideas, although, I would like to get most of my parts 3d printed, and perhaps have a pocket size soldering station that has a captive solder holder with hole for pulling solder through, and possibly a small foldable silicone or other thin heat resistant mat to adhere to the soldering station table type work surface parts, probably a dovetail hinge type setup, where you just open the case and pull out a single or multiple, plastic plate(s), depending on size required, and then just set it where you need it and have some dovetail joints connecting it to the soldering iron case and/or other modular accessory pieces, such as more work surface pieces, or a helping hand device, in a kind of modular layout... Possibly, if I wanted to semi-permanently attach everything together, I could have some extra TS100 case screws lying around screwed into the case to be able to re-use any special opening screwdrivers with this, and save space, while giving a bit of strength and stiffness to the joints...
I found this video because I was looking to see how to build my own Soldering Pot... I am surprised you don't use one for tinning wires or desoldering boards

bit of constructive critisism......... putting a breadboard directly in front of a soldering station means any blobs of molten soulder could potentially fall down inside the holes - thus shorting sections of it out.
