Hi Jim - it's Big Rodders in lockdown Ireland. Congratulations on exceeding 10k subscribers. I'm really pleased for you, it's a tremendous achievement for a one product channel. It's a lonely life in Ireland for a Snapper fan so I always welcome any contact from friends across the pond, otherwise known as the Atlantic ocean.
Jim, you're the bomb! Thank you for the all the help! You've inspired me to buy an old Snapper just to fix it up, just for fun! I have a 2003 that I bought brand new but it's been in storage for about 15 years. It's a great machine but I hate the soft start clutch--it slips when going up steep hills pulling my wagon. I had a really old one back in the late 90s that I just gave away but it was the best cutting riding mower I've ever had! Hopefully, I can recreate the quality in the one I am fixing up that is an early 70s model. Hey! there's an idea for a video: Maybe show some of the projects of the subscribers that you've inspired with this awesome channel! Have fun and keep on Snappin'!

If you look at video no. 70 it will explains how to fix that issue. Jim
Great video as always.
Hey Jim, one more thought: I've seen a lot of guys asking about the year of their Snapper--most of them on the Snapper Facebook Page. I know that on my 2003, the date is stamped into the plastic gas tank, but maybe you could help us all out by showing us the differences in the models over the years and serial number break downs. For instance: In 197X They switched from the hoop style steering wheel to the handlebar style starting at serial number BLA BLA BLA. And in 196X they switched from the skinny rear tires to the wider rear tires starting at serial number XXXX-XX. Any way you could help us identify the year of our machines would be AWESOME because not all machines have the date stamped into the gas tank and knowing what year we have is challenging if you don't have the original engine. I don't know if that's something you'd be willing to make a video about, but we'd all LOVE it if you would.
Jim you just keep putting out Great Videos!!! Alex nj
Hey Jim,
My clutch brake cable recently broke on my Snapper and I replaced it. While putting it all back together I didn’t get the reverse rod put back into the key hole on the yoke properly and I lost that spring that hooks up to the reverse rod and yoke while mowing. The mower still appears to work without that rod hooked up.
Do I “need” to hook that rod back up or will it work okay with it removed and tied out of the way? Thanks for your help! Your videos have been very helpful
Joseph McCarty
I guess if it’s going into reverse and working OK I wouldn’t worry about it mostly I think that Rod is to kick it out of reverse as soon as you touch your clutch pedal it puts it into neutral or park. Jim
Jim Jackson
That is what I will do. Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate your videos they have helped me out a lot!
Have you had anyone ask about the pin sliding out of the yoke while going in reverse? Resulting in have to take yoke out and reinstall everything? Any tips on a solution to this happening?
Well, I need to see some pictures on that, if everything is in good shape, there’s no way the pin on the bottom of the chain case can come out of the slot on the yoke, check the pin on the bottom of the chain case some of them had very poor welds, and they rip loose and cause issues Send me some pictures of what it looks like and let me know what you find. Jim.
i have 5 holes in my yoke were do i put the spring on the bottom i put the top of the spring in the top hole i cant find the holes in the bottom
Some of the machines, the newer ones, the spring hooks in the back of the rear case you’ll see a small slot with a hole under it. The spring goes through the slot, and the end of the hook goes into the hole.
My yoke was installed wrong on my Snapper. It was binding up because the bracket was put on the right side rather than the left side of the mounting holes. William Davis Columbus ,Ohio
how long is the belt on a 33" 14hp snapper
John
That’s a really good question when I do I just order them from Parts tree .com from Texas and put them on can’t say that I’ve ever actually measured how long one is sorry. Jim
Hi John - it's Big Rodder in Ireland. I owned a 33 inch model, E331523KVE. Your question is not a easy one to answer as I discovered when I tried to source a belt locally here. I came across much conflicting info on the interweb. Different Series models appear to have varying length belts and it's not clear if suppliers list outside diameter, pitch or inner circumference measurements. I've seen the 33 inch belt 7043844 listed as both 72.5 inch & 73.75 inch. Good luck with you decision making!

Hey Rodney good to hear from you I hope you’re doing well and the same with the entire area.
I looked on Parts Tree.Com. and according to them your belt should be 73 3/4” AA I think the AA means it’s a Double V Which you can buy a standard belt and use it but you would have to change your idler pulley to a flat one instead of a V shaped. Keep in touch it’s good to hear from you. Jim
I have a question. I own a ‘93 snapper rer with an 8 horse Briggs. The model tag on the tractor says it is a model 2880W, and I can’t find any info about it. I don’t really know anything about snappers, but I can’t find the model when I look for parts. Any advice is helpful. Thanks

Have you checked with Parts Tree.Com. out of Texas they sell any part for any brand or model of machine out there. Jim
Jim Jackson thank you!
Have you ever converted a solid clutch to the soft start version? I would be very interested in converting mine.
David S
I don’t know which machine you have but typically you just order a clutch and a soft start clutch assembly and switch it for the one that you have on your machine. Jim
@@REVNUMANEWBERN I didn't even know Snapper had a soft start clutch until a few days ago. I'm using my Dad's very old Snapper that I've put lots of time and effort into getting back in running condition, but it's hard to keep the front end on the ground when I start off. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
David S
Well that’s why they went to a soft start clutch too many kids popping wheelies and probably getting hurt. Otherwise there’s no reason for them to go to the added expense of designing and manufacturing a soft start clutch.Jim
Hi David S - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I'm by no means an expert, just an enthusiastic amateur. Have you tried to reduce the spring tension on the yoke to reduce the wheelies. It's a balance of getting the softest start possible while maximising grip of the rubber clutch disc against the drive disc for heavy duty work. Since I cut grass on undulating ground I normally have the greatest spring tension possible and have had to develop a very sensitive left foot for clutch starts. Jim has a number of excellent videos on adjusting the spring tension on the yoke arm which are very educational - check them out.
@@rodneysweetnam8653 Thank you for the tip. I've got a lot to learn.
