I always listen to the Fathers of Mercy. I think this sermon is the most powerful and thought provoking I have heard in a long while. I wish to God my own parish priest would give as such. I am greatly moved. Thank you father.
Father Casey I just want to thank God that He brings you into my life when I either veer off course or need a slap in the head, a swift kick in the rear, or be on the receiving end of a body slam. Continue to spread the message that we all need to hear but may not want to hear it. Hope to see and hear you more often. The good Lord knows I (as well as anybody else willing to watch and listen) can sure benefit. I never go away disappointed after listening to you. I just pray I have the grace, courage, and wisdom to apply your suggestions.

Father Bill Casey's sermons have meant a lot to me over the years. However, sometimes I am thinking for myself what God really asks me someday when I stand before Him: Whether I watched porn, did not go to Church, had a same-sex partner and loved him dearly, did not fully obey the Church's commands - or whether I fed the hungry, gave drink to the thirsty, sheltered the homeless, visited the prisoners and the sick, gave alms to the poor, comforted the lonely and the sad. We can complain of how bad the world has become, point the finger at the sinners, tell them of the consequences, give a rant - and yet shocking people has never worked on the long run. Or we can show them how it is being done differently - by our own example: put the arms around the sinners and tell them to come home. Because after all, when have we last shown that we "love the sinner"? I wonder what works better. No, the Catholic faith is not just a social faith and doing good is not enough - neither is telling them how bad sinners they are though. And yes, sometimes love needs to be tough love - but only tough love is no love at all. If we only get to hear what we do not want and should not do, our mind - which does not understand the word "not" - will constantly be focused on that. Want an example? If I keep on telling you not to think of a rose elephant, what are you thinking of? Right - even if you haven't thought of one for all of your life. “If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.” ― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Are priests that would like to speak truth afraid their Bishops will cancel them? Why are our Bishops silent? Is it because they don’t want to end up like Holy Bishop Strickland? Pray for priests and bishops for courage.
Many want the TRUTH, most, it seems, don't. This was an excellent homily and I am disliked because I speak as does Father Casey. I am called brutally honest. Father Bill Casey's sermons have meant a lot to me over the years. However, sometimes I am thinking for myself what God really asks me someday when I stand before Him: Whether I watched porn, did not go to Church, had a same-sex partner and loved him dearly, did not fully obey the Church's commands - or whether I fed the hungry, gave drink to the thirsty, sheltered the homeless, visited the prisoners and the sick, gave alms to the poor, comforted the lonely and the sad. We can complain of how bad the world has become, point the finger at the sinners, tell them of the consequences, give a rant - and yet shocking people has never worked on the long run. Or we can show them how it is being done differently - by our own example: put the arms around the sinners and tell them to come home. Because after all, when have we last shown that we "love the sinner"?
I wonder what works better.
No, the Catholic faith is not just a social faith and doing good is not enough - neither is telling them how bad sinners they are though.
And yes, sometimes love needs to be tough love - but only tough love is no love at all.
If we only get to hear what we do not want and should not do, our mind - which does not understand the word "not" - will constantly be focused on that. Want an example? If I keep on telling you not to think of a rose elephant, what are you thinking of? Right - even if you haven't thought of one for all of your life.

Many want the TRUTH, most, it seems, don't. This was an excellent homily and I am disliked because I speak as does Father Casey. I am called brutally honest. It's only brutal because people don't want to hear it. God Bless the Fathers of Mercy and God Bless Father Casey.
