The first of a long series of movies, Saw was actually the first major film project of two friends fresh out of film school. Understanding they have a very small budget, the movie stands as a great example of how to do a lot with a little.. though sometimes, they use that little quite a lot...

I'll never forget seeing this in the theater opening weekend. Theater was packed, and everyone thought they knew what was going on. When John got up off the floor, the entire place popped like crazy with a collective "Holy shit!" Still one my favorite movie going experiences.
"the body counts rises" has become one of my favorite phrases. I'd buy that T-shirt
really? really dude? ... you couldn't throw in a Robocop "I'd buy that for a dollar" reference ....
Would be great shirt...but probably not the best time in the world at the moment to have a t-shirt like that xD
@@gspvideo5543 lmao, right
@@KenMabie opportunity missed lol
Id buy that for a dollar.
I think the best part is how almost literally everyone in this movie was working for Jigsaw all along!
well technically Dr. Gordon didn't become an apprentice until after this movie.
@@smokeyquest8933 But he was his doctor, so he was kinda working for him.
Adam?
EternalEntity “almost” being the key word
It's not really even half of the characters that were working for John though. Like, Dr. Gordon was a medical professional, and saying that a medical professional is working for you is like saying that your garbage guy is working for you. It's technically a little true, but the very nature of their vocation means they serve dozens of people on a regular basis. Obviously it's true later, but that happens after the events of this film chronologically. Zepp was a victim, though his game was to further John's ends so I guess you could count that if you wanted to. And Adam was working for Tapp, who was clearly against John the entire time. Which means that we have John, Amanda, Zepp, and Dr. Gordon, assuming we're being very generous with how we define "working for". If we just mean willingly, that leaves Amanda and later Gordon, but only after this movie finishes.

how many people were waiting for Carey Elwes to say... " OOHHHHH WATCH YOURSELF ITS THE SAW, OOOHHHH THE SAWS COMING AT YOU, YOUR SCARED OF THE SAW, YOUR SCARED OF THE SAW,...OOOHHHHH"
That's pretty funny, I don't know but if I ever meet him. I just might try that. He seems like a very cool guy so I'm sure at the least he'd be nice about it. I also liked that his Liar Liar character wasn't a complete douchebag like most movie boyfriends of the love interest.
I was expecting him to look up at the gun pointed at him and say "I lost. I lost? Wait a second, I'm not supposed to lose. Let me see the script."

Still has one of the best endings ever. Everybody in the theater was shook at the end. We didn't see it coming.
The first was something special, definitely wore out edges on seats everywhere.
Selling it out or not, but the concept alone just demanded sequels. And even the worst of those had scenes and twists that kept me entertained.
Brrring on the summer of Sawww!
Even though the rest of the franchise ended up being more about the gore and less about the story, the first Saw still holds up as one of the greatest modern horror movies IMO.
nah, the "twist" was fine but the rest of the movie was a horribly directed borefest... never understood the hype
I prefer Saw 2. Better twist, better characters in the main trap, way more of Tobin Bell.
I never thought I would see the day saw gets reviewed and I’m gonna call it and say half of these videos will be demonetized

you Know when Zep died he had a gun why couldn't Adam just take his gun and try shooting the lock or the chain to free Himself?
Oh HELL YEAH!!
Proud to say I was one of the many who requested this. I love this series. A couple years back I scouted around and bought/watched them all over the course of a week or so. At night, on my laptop. Kind of a guilty pleasure. The first 2 movies are really the only ones I would consider to be "essential". SAW III fucked things up by introducing the bane of the series: the main characters going from room to room to witness the traps performed on throwaway victims, DRASTICALLY reducing the investment of it all. Don't get me wrong, I love me some gore porn. Some of the traps/games are so over-the-top gratuitous that I found myself laughing in disbelief at what I was seeing happen to a person. But part of the fun of the first 2 movies is seeing how strangers react to being thrown together into a survival situation.
Also does John Kramer/Jigsaw remind anyone else of Walter White/Heisenberg? Genius gets cancer, finds renewed purpose when faced with mortality, devotes life to greater purpose and becomes notorious wanted criminal mastermind?
"There's so many sequels..."
Oh... Is he gonna do it?
"The suuuuuummmmeeeeeeeeer..."
Yeah!
the twist in this movie actually got me. it remains one of the few that actually really surprised me.
I never saw these films until the midnight premiere of Saw 3. My friend took me to a Saw 1 - 3 marathon. All three films in one night. It was the best worst day of my life.
Great review dude
It's so awesome that movies back then didnt really need money just imagination and determination
This is the only horror franchise where I've genuinely enjoyed every installment. Not all are particularly good but all are entertaining and somewhat connect well
That's what I love about this franchise as well. Really enjoy the soap opera of it.
8:50, Decker actually sounding like Jigsaw, that actually was perfect

One of my favorite behind the scenes trivia about this movie (and I think it applies to most of the sequels up to 3d..) not only did the story take place in mostly one room but the entire movie was shot in one building.. The garage, tapps apparmtent, Lawrences apartment, the bathroom, the police department was all shot in the same building..
Do Wrong Turn. That'll be fun
Or do The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Honestly to me 1 3 and 4 are the only ones worth watching. To me when ever they focus on more then one or two characters the movie weren’t that good
@6:36 When in a dream fight you have to remember that its not physical activity but that of the mind, physical activity will tire you out quick as you have said.
Series that basically turned into torture p***.
It is not torture porn. Each movie is about 2 hours long. The traps don't even make up 30% of the movie. Hostel is torture porn. At least Hostel 2 is.
Why do you sensor “porn”? Afraid of the elite lefties? 😂
@Finn MacCool people are not calling it torture pron because they are squeamish.. they do it because it's a lazy, shitty and terribly boring way of film making.. and i agree, the saw movies are grossly overrated
Its not Hellraiser or Event Horizon
@@datdumbdude4126 but there is a clear distinction between the first Saw and the rest. While the first one is a slow burning puzzle between two characters that lasted the whole movie, the sequels all involved alot of people going through quick traps that were mechanically complex and gruesome.
Still remember the first time my mother showed me and my friend this movie. We hadn't seen it yet and we hadn't seen any reviews or spoilers. Honestly, neither of us were that interested in it. Once the movie started, she asked us to figure out who the killer was. We both said together "The Dead Guy". We're long-time D&D players.
i remember renting this as a kid. really vividly. we rented movies and picked up pizzas at the blockbuster, but the parents didn't watch their movies because my lil sister had just been born. so i decided to commandeer the living room, and i was blown away by the ending. still remember that vividly and have a soft spot for this one.
The next Saw movie should have their games be in the public for everyone to watch. It goes streaming on TV and RUclips.
I am actually so pumped for this Summer of Saw. Saw is by far my favorite horror movie franchise.
"Hello, I'm Decker Shadow, the internet personality with the best hair, and secret apprentice to John Kramer. But then again, who isn't. "

You and Nostalgia Critic uploaded near simultaneously. I wanted to watch a fun, non preachy entertaining video. Obviously here i am
There's a piece of artistic integrity that this movie has over the rest of the series.
Batman versus The Jigsaw Killer would be the greatest comic book crossover ever. I've said so for years.

I wish they would make SAW in an alternative universe while Tobin Bell is still interested in playing John.
Dude I just found out about you today and I love your reviews. Your energy and personality is very entertaining. If you added some background music I think that would help out👍🏽
6:53 Some of Jigsaw's reasons for testing people are really petty. "You called in sick when there was nothing wrong with you so you have to carry a candle to find the combination to the safe where the antidote to your poison is or else the candle will burn you to death."
Hey decker I'm super stoked to watch your reviews of all the saw movies. I got fully hyped at the reveal of the summer of saw at the end of the video. Saw is a good movie. Great plot and awesome twists and turns.
Recently came back to this movie after not seeing it since '05 and I was gripped the whole time. Truly a classic. I especially love the initial shot of Kramers "corpse" as it reminds me of certain scenes from Max Payne.
watching the first saw for the first time was pretty cool. as much as i didnt care for all the others its still cool we were still trying to make long running horror franchises. id love to see a new killer go to hell, space and other wacky places in some crazy off the wall sequels
First time I saw, saw (no pun intended).... My GF at the time pointed out after 10 mins that the guy in the middle of the room wasn't dead, and that it was him. What a bitch.... I still enjoyed it. But when he stood up I was like "oh no, didn't see that coming"
Channels like this are why i dont need actual tv

I've been waiting for this review for a long time. Thanks for delivering man. FEAT. Robin, from Robin Hood: Men In Tights!
Cary Elwis was only paid $3.5k upfront for his role and claims he was only paid 70k on his point on the backend. In contrast Danny Glover took 2% backend points and received 2% of the $159 million box office. Cary Elwis had to sue to get what he was owed. Both writer/directors only took backend points both were broke after filming wrapped and both became over night millionaires after saws opening weekend
The premise is good.
Killer only abducts people he thinks have done wrong to see if they will continue in their folly or if they will choose to change and be a better person.
The fact that he kills all his participants regardless is shite.
Didn't he actually let them go though, and it was someone else who killed them regardless?
I'm not entirely sure as I've only seen most of these movies once

Awesome review Decker, witty & entertaining.
The summer of Saw begins.
11:45 If Jigsaw gets off due to the lack of a warrant, then the families of his victims can form an angry mob and burn him alive. Of course, Jigsaw would just start putting people in deathtraps in their dreams.
1:34 no need of apology, I giggle
Funny watching this now knowing what you know you see Saw and all the other connections.
The gasps in the cinema when the corpse stood up in the cinema was awesome at the time. Never the same after the first viewing
Sweet. You're back to horror this summer! I was never a fan of these until the last year or so. I bought the whole series recently for really cheap and they're all pretty good until the last two. The believability is stretched thinner and thinner with each movie though until it just snaps. Jigsaw has to be God at some point to have such a solid plan completely dependent on predicting everyone's decisions working years after his own death.
Can't wait for the rest of the saw movie reviews
I'm Master fear the internet personality with the worst hair and I'm glad finally see Decker shado review saw

Nice review. What about doing "The collector" a good underrated horror with some similar ideas to saw
The original script to the collector, titled The Midnight Man, was at one point shopped as a prequel to the Saw franchise, but the producers opposed the idea and dismissed it, leading to the script getting reworked
We're finally doing the Saw review baby!!!!!
Is the Summer Of Saw finally here!?!
Deckers rating: 4/5
1 thing I didn't like about this film is how the photographer got screwed.
They tie the plug around his foot so he lost the key (That screwed both of em)
They give them both saws, But then they give Gordon ANOTHER chance to escape by killing the other guy.
Where was his 3rd option lol
Did Adam even get any other option besides sawing his foot off?

Something that makes the ending even worse is that Adam is stuck there anyway. Jigsaw says the key is in the tub, but when Adam woke up, the key was flushed down the drain.
he didnt expect adam to live anyway...
