I have been running the numbers on building one, it's roughly north of 17k minus labor and tools and skills necessary to make it all happen. What ECU are people running the J3x series engine with? Hondata, Haltech, AEM, Megasquirt?
Love your videos, but please GET MICROPHONES for the guests. I can always hear the questions, but 90% of the time the guys back is to the camera looking at or pointing to parts of the builds.
Man! I remember back in 2010. A good buddy of mine built a long travel VW with a Honda engine. Ended up selling it shortly after. Always wondered what happened to it. He built a long travel 80’s Suburban as well.
That is so badass dude !! We are building a J35 Baja right now , struggling to find a wiring guy. I'm hoping you can share which ecu you used and who did your wiring harness please. Thanks Burley
Here's some info that may help those interested : Don's bus box , Tim Beadle and Marked Motorsports sell mod'd Honda ecu and wiring harness's , otherwise from what I understand ( and that's not much ) its a stand alone ecu that requires tuning maps to be input into it.
Maybe close to the same power as some of the weaker 5.3L LS motors in stock form, but with very little money or even work by simply adding a turbo, blower, and few bolt ons your up to 600+up and climbing. That lil motor in the VW ain't coming close to that.
I'm always happy when you show Baja bugs !
Stoked u guys found that bug.. been wanting to see this
Blacked out makes that bug look extra mean! Love the build!
Keep doing the VW videos. Always learn something. Thanks
I'm glad you asked about the budget for one of these! Good goal to set for myself versus buying a rzr
Im building my A-arm Baja bug , full tube chassis for under $16,000
@@shawnthompson9912 heck yeah dude!! 45k was steep for me but for 25k max you could have a serious bug that would shit on a rzr

Stock ecu trimmed or AEM
Ecu masters also has a really good Ecu that will work for about 1200. That would be my pick over the aem most likely.
This thing is so rad I just picked up a few kits to build an RC version, love it.
Nice. Much nicer than any Razor or other UTV.
I wrote about Jeff's Bug last year, it's so rad!
Now just put Italian made exhaust on it and you can call it the Axis of Evil.
70 year old joke. congrats.
It needs a air-con and it would be complete!! Greeting from Texas. Love the Bug$$. :),
Love the Baja bugs!!!! Great one guys
About time we got some bug action ! 🪲

That bug is sick.

I’ve been in this before it’s really smooth and nice and at night it got under glows which makes it look like a truck sick build tho keep it up jeff
More bugs plzzzzz
Sweet bug dude 👍🏻
I’d actually prefer a J Arm front set up.
But besides that that bug is awesome.
So cool!
Nice rig!
Thanks for adding price info.
Things vicious!!
My buddy tim builds wire harnesses in Arizona..API...
Honda v6
It's not a bug, it's a feature!
More details on the build please! What ECM is he running?
Yes more details on that please , it would greatly help us with our build too !
