I have a mixture of both military and homade MRE's. But my favorite MRE's to buy are European or Russian MRE's. My brother has a freeze dryer machine and we make alot of freeze dried meals for homade MRE's and just food for camping, fishing and hunting. I own six dehydrators alot of the stuff I grow in my garden and my small greenhouse gets canned, freeze dried or dehydrated. Another thing you can put into your homade MRE's is Ramen Soup, Sardines, Vienna Sausages, Tuna Pouches, Crisp Bread, Homemade Hardtack and Beef Jerkey. Great video don't listen to the die hard MRE snobs. They have taken in way too many government preservatives. Just have fun with this play list. You are giving alot of ideas to some people who may not have alot of money to put together some food stores some ideas.

Sounds like you’ve got a great program going there. I would love to have a freeze dryer but I’m not there with the finances yet. I love the idea of mixing all that along with military and home made MREs. It’s smart to have lots of options.

Costco and Sam's Club are both excellent sources for single serving packets for condiments, instant coffee packets, teabags, sweetener, sugar, etc, because restaurants and hotels go to Sam's and Costco to get that kind of stuff.
Years ago, our church made comfort and sanitation kits for victims of Katrina full of useful things like small bottles of shampoo, soap, washcloths, toothbrushes, toothpaste. You could make kits like that using travel sized stuff bought in bulk that won't perish to use as trading materials or to help a person feel human again.
Even if your home made MRE has self heating food pouches, don't forget to throw in a small can opener, just in case. A couple of years ago we stayed at an air bnb. We got back from Walmart with our groceries for the weekend and couldn't find a can opener anywhere in the house. I used my P-54 off my key chain until we got a better one the next morning. The P-54 is the big brother to the P-38. Once you get it going, it works fine. I've made more drinking cups out of soda cans than actually opening cans. :)

I have packets of hot sauce from taco bell, ketchup from everywhere, mayo relish mustard from convenience stores, soy and duck sauce from Chinese places, plastic utensils and napkins from everywhere. Oh and wet naps from wing or bbq joints are great to pack along. One thing I wish was still around these days is matches. I remember when I was young almost every business has advertisment match books. They weren't waterproof but would be a nice free addition but hardly ever see them anymore. ✌️🇺🇸

my favorite water additive is Welch's (i believe) Strawberry Lemonade pkgs from the Dollar Tree (pkg of about 10). Dollar Tree has several of those types of 9pks of snacks - some are good like the cheeze-its some aren't like the oreos. i do like the other sandwich cookies variety pk they have; again i believe a nine pk and this a variety in the pkg of banana, chocolate, strawberry. i know some people don't like them however. I've never done a homemade mre persay but when going on road trips - a lunchbag per person with a ice pk and tons of snacks like the drink mix, cookies, chips, crackers, cheese and meats, jerk stick, dried fruit, carrots and ranch dressing, pickles, candy, chocolate, ectc... makes it that everyone has their own litlte "store" of snacks so we don't have to stop for snacks and sometimes not even a meal. and everyone has a really good variety to choose from in their bag.

The US military has a contract or agreement with a company that sells an electrolyte packet called Drib Drabs, kind of like they did with Rip-It's. They're going to transport pallets of bottled water, but cases of electrolyte packets are cheaper and easier to transport to leave it for the troops to put it in a bottle of water instead of hauling pallets of Gatorade. Coke owns Gatorade and they have a subsidiary of Gatorade called Propel and they sell packets of mixes for both of them, Propel being less expensive (and diabetic friendly with artificial sweetener)

If you can find the little cups of jif peanut butter at the dollar general they are really nice to toss into a meal pk.... I make little snacky pks with my mre kits and I prep some of these for my husband to take to dialysis as on some days he doesn't have a chance to eat a full lunch before our ride arrives..... I love the honey idea it would be perfect with the peanut butter and crackers and would be a change from the packets of jelly.....i ask for two pks when I occasionally pick myself up a biscuit and coffee so i can stick them in a snacky pack.....

I drive for Amazon and I use those drink mix packets all the time. It might sound weird but my favorite ones are the Prime ones. The lemon-lime one tastes like a Popsicle. I am usually a pop drinker. Mtn dew is my go to but when I'm out on the road I really don't want to try to hydrate with that lol. Crystal lite is ok but I usually use 2. The Walmart ones are good too, I like the orange morning one is kind of like tang.
