I like GaryVee's approach to this. He says that branding and all that stuff doesn't really matter, and that you should just make content that is true to yourself. Basically "just do your thing". Some people want and can produce good daily content, but other people have a totally different approach. A good example is CGP Grey. He has a pretty large community around his videos and his podcasts even though he is putting out his stuff on a pretty inconsistent basis. And he has always worked like that. People like him probably take longer to grow a decent community, but I think their community is more likely to be loyal as well. And of course you need to be patient no matter what your approach is. By the way, I kind of disagree with her point on the algorithm. I personally WANT to see everything the people I follow post, on the platforms I use (Twitter and Instagram in particular). I try to take care not to follow too many people for this reason. Maybe I'm just old school, and this obviously doesn't apply to everyone, but saying "people don't want to see everything" is certainly not true. There's a good reason why so many people complain about Instagram's algorithm or changes in the Twitter API that might prevent third party apps to function properly.
I know this is 4 years later, but branding certainly matters because branding is about the identity you're being true to. It's the foundation for the position you hold in the market and the perspective in the content you put out, so it is absolutely a necessary to continually develop and manage your branding as you evolve through creating. Branding, in my perspective, is really more about your behavior that's based on your identity. Defining your identity for yourself instead of based on others expectations or what everyone else is doing, is the key to finding your own unique position that cannot be copied or replaced.
YES YES YES! We daily vlogged for 2 years solid and just recently stopped so that we could put more intention into our content. This was a great confirmation that we are on the right track. It was a hard switch but really good for us.
Right on. There's a lot you can learn from creating that much content and I think it helps early on. But definitely think the shift going forward will be more intentional creations.
We learned so much. It also offered so many amazing opportunities that we would not have received otherwise. But people like you have inspired us to push to be more intentional which has been a challenge, but ended up being much more rewarding.
Finding this video at the very end of 2021 after wondering and feeding the idea of creating my own channel for months now knowing you put this out in 2018, almost 4 years ago, is amazing! I admire your work and believe that the whole concept of creating content worth engaging with is crucial even MORE now than ever. Thanks for the EXCELLENT work you keep delivering Matt.
This is great advice! In the past I’ve tried to be on every social platform, but got for the last few years I’ve learned to narrow down my focus in order to create consistent, high quality content. I’d like to think that it’s starting to pay off. Thanks for sharing this Matt!
It's so true. I was trying to juggle all the social media platforms and I found my self frustrated and worn out because I was not getting the response I was hopping for. In the long run I wore my self out and stopped all together.
The beauty bloggers /vloggers freak out about the algorithm because they feel like they won't grow an audience or get new audience members. They are focused on quantity, not necessarily quality. (Not in every case, just a large part of them.) This is a great video about the intention of content creation, which is something that is getting a little bit left behind in the noise of the industry. Thanks for sharing!
Being a digital creator doesn't mean posting a ton of content on social media. It's more about a mindset and personality. Here are 5 habits that signal you're a creator at heart: 1) You’re curious about the process, not just the end-result Creators have a natural curiosity about process. If you find yourself wondering how products are made, or the craft behind different forms of art, it's a sign that you have an itch to create something of your own. 2) You often find yourself interacting with other doers Humans have a natural tendency to surround themselves with people that align with their values and beliefs. If you're surrounded by doers, or find yourself consuming the content of builders, you're probably one yourself. 3) You frequently find ways to contribute or add value There are two types of people in the world, consumers and creators. Most of society consumes. If you're finding ways to contribute or add value to the communities you're in, it means you're part of the minority of creators. 4) You work not for the approval of others, but to prove yourself Creators are motivated by the intrinsic satisfaction of doing work they're proud of. They work hard because they actively want to, not because somebody tells them to.
Love this video. So often we're consumed with what's trending and what content will garner more subscribers, but staying true to self and constantly experimenting is, what I think, will keep people around. You have a dope channel!
thanks for the reminder. I tried to post every day, though now I am at weekly posts. I know that my editing style is not good yet, but I think that creating and learning through the mistakes while doing that, will bring me further. love your channel :)
DUDE! I woke up at 4:30am today to continue working on my book - and seeing a notification for a new video from you pop in was additional inspiration man! Just freakin listened to this 2 times to make sure it sunk in (even though I also watched the full interview 2 days ago). Sadly, I'm one of those people that go through these periods where I wont post to my Insta account for long periods of time and then all the sudden Im active again and wonder why my audience isn't as engaged. And even though I know that's not a good way to get people to want to constantly follow along in my story - sometimes you have to hear it from an outside source. Thanks man, Jeff.
Nice and refreshing take on the whole content creator space. People get caught up in the quantitative, when all we want is quality. Then let the algorithms do their work. You'll be good in the end.
I am small RUclipsr and I am enjoying it but I am struggling to create my content so starting to watch some videos to help me to get better with my channel. Thank you for this video.
Yes, please, more deep details on how to craft one content outline or plan that can be repetitive and works with any content genre. I love her pieces of advice, I'll search her up, and I wish I can find more tips from her. Thanks.
I found your channel maybe like a week ago and I can't stop! I love how your videos are so thought out and the way it just calms my mind watching them. Keep up the good work! :)
You make some great points! Right now, I upload twice a week and try to make good, consistent content. I thought about going back to weekly uploads to make better content, but I love filming and editing so much that I don't think I'll be fulfilled. So, I'll just keep plugging along til something changes in my head. Btw, subbed... ✌🏾 🚀
I'm glad she said that about posting. I've heard that you need to post 4-5 times every day, which I have always thought would drive people away (and is difficult to manage)
Thanks for this video! I'm just starting out and I nearly fell into the trap of having too many social media platforms. This came at the right time. Time to focus and get stuff done!
the idea is presented here is simple but its crucial no matter what you want to create and start start small and reduce the choices of where do you want to start
There's this guy Gaurav with a channel named flying beast. He put out a vlog everyday and has a huge following as evident from the number of likes he gets on every video. corona has shifted paradigm for a lot of people indeed.
Superb advice. Only makes sense now that junk posts that tend to get pushed to the wayside when quality content is brought to the surface. Or, at least how it SHOULD be.
My first encounter to Matt D'Avella's channel was the 30 Days without Social Media. From then on I keep on watching his videos here in YT. Nice work Matt! -Kumi from PH
Here I am commenting cause I like the work and really do believe in the message of this video and a bunch of others. I felt like I needed to add that from what Hope mentioned in the video. This video covers something I've been thinking about recently not just because I've been seeing it out in the world but because I struggle with this every day. I'm a young graphic designer wanting to grow my IG following but I feel I don't consistently put what I think is ”great content.” But you're right, focus on a few things and try to put one thing out a week. Small steps first. I guess I just want to rush and go for the big stuff first is because that's what I'm passionate about. But it's a process and things take time. This episode resonates with me on a whole other level. Really awesome interview with Hope!!
I’m putting all my work into uploading once a week at the very least. I work a lot and I’m still in school so I go for about 10-15 minute videos every week. Or at least aiming to thinking about my next video on my days off.
i got the same thing man, its not easy to make new video, but i know soon we will be in where we wanna be. goodluck with your channel i will support you man
yeup 4:14 to 4:25 that's me, everytime i see Matt D'avella post, i know i am going to enjoy the content and take out lots of value out of it. (always well done from the content to the filming and the editing) Thank you for the great Videos Matt :)
I follow a lot of art channels on youtube, and there's one art youtuber who only posts videos once in a blue moon. His stuff is worth waiting for. He's why I need that notification bell thingy.
MATT D'Avella im now a content creator im very small youtuber and this podcast of you help me so much to become responsible youtuber, this is very informative and most of all I DONT REGRET SUBSCRIBING TO YOUR CHANNEL. ❤️
Outputting consistent and good quality content, at least once a week? Yeh, I agree with you there. But over the years, I've realised that, to be an independent RUclipsr today, it means accepting RUclips as a platform that's built for "Content Creators"--not Filmmakers and Artists--who can produce at this sort of rate. It didn't use to be like this...like, where's the discovery page even gone to?? I guess we have to adapt. I mean, I tried to. I tried to produce "content" once a week, but unfortunately I couldn't keep up with the RUclips engine, and I soon realised I didn't want to compromise my art for the sake of social traction, relevance, and brand-building.
Matt, I'm really enjoying your content. Your podcasts are so refreshing and give me a chance to learn and hear new ideas. I have a hard time watching the same content, but a great place to come back and listen to specifics when I'm back at my desk. Ok time to head over to iTunes to give you a good review!
Well I’m three years late to the content party, but as I’m starting out, I’ve found great value in this. Thanks for making it. Peace to you and thanks for the great tips.
Loved this so much thank you, Matt! I have been trying to figure out how to approach my channel the what, the how ,and the when you definitely tackled the when and being intentional about what to post.
Really liked the podcast with Hope. Definitely so much value in it. What I constantly struggle with is what constitutes "good" content? Do I establish what is good - or is it defined by how well it is received by the public?
That's a great question. I think all we can do is try to improve upon the work we've previously done. "Good" will change as you get better. I don't think it has as much to do with how the public receives it.
I admire your work so much man! This video really helped me as I am a creator that is on all platforms, and I feel like its just a part of the life. Your video has helped me realize that maybe i need to take a step back and see what I really want to do... Thanks as always matt. Question: I'm looking to start a podcast for my other buisness that I'm starting up. I was wondering what kind of mics those are? I really like the style and quality of those! Thanks!
I disagree some people are willing to accept the fact that not every week will be a movie. RUclips is a place for content creation, but it is also a social media platform. Something worth checking in on every day. It's all in an audience's taste
It's 2020 and this tough year finally gave me the nudge I needed to start creating and uploading content, and I can't thank you enough for the precious tips and resources that your videos gave me :)
Such a great video Matt, packed full of helpful information. Great timing for me given where I'm at with my channel, so thanks for sharing. BTW I can highly recommend the podcast with Hope Leigh, it's brilliant!
Okay. I was probably not a podcast person earlier. But very recently I have been hooked onto your podcast. And some others too. (Thankyou Castbox) I listened to the whole "Going Viral" podcast. She has some amazing insights. I actually took notes. Jesus. Can you also transcript these podcasts ? Also, dude how's getting The Rock to get to your podcast going on? Ask him out on Twitter for a coffee bro-date man! :D
Reminds me of the quote by James Gleick - 'When information is cheap, attention becomes expensive.'
Yes!! So true.
That’s a great quote
Makes sense

Totally agree with this young woman. I have found that authentic engagement is the way to go to build a brand as a content creator. Great chat!

Thanks, Jeff!! Keep hustling man and don't get too hard on yourself when you slip up. It's all about the long game.
I love the vibe of your videos. The colors, framing, audio, and overall editing work really well together to give a super relaxed and simple feel.
Can't wait to watch this after my quiz! Always quality content! Wish me luck y'all! :)
Nice and refreshing take on the whole content creator space. People get caught up in the quantitative, when all we want is quality. Then let the algorithms do their work. You'll be good in the end.
Love your channel man. Keep making awesome content!
Thank you!!
yes matt d avella channel is very knowledgable and helpful .

Matt’s just one of those authentic creators you really want to keep up with, because of his great content! 👍🏾
18 months and 1.7M subs later, Matt proves it. 1 video per week, which is freaking epic makes a lot of sense.
There's this guy Gaurav with a channel named flying beast. He put out a vlog everyday and has a huge following as evident from the number of likes he gets on every video. corona has shifted paradigm for a lot of people indeed.
Love it! I've done the bad posts every day and the awesome stuff infrequently... The key is somewhere in the middle.
Dude love your content! Your style is motivating others so much!
Matt, you are changing my life in all the positive ways you possibly could

Matt D'Avella, no worries! Happy to help!
Great advice. I hope the algorithms are working out for you Matt
100% agree. This has been my strategy over the last year.
as someone who is on the start of trying to become a content creator i found this very helpful, thank you :)
Thank you for the advice. I am trying to think more about the videos I make and you help me a lot 💙
1:53 You really are the best youtuber. You make all of our days better

MATT D'Avella im now a content creator im very small youtuber and this podcast of you help me so much to become responsible youtuber, this is very informative and most of all I DONT REGRET SUBSCRIBING TO YOUR CHANNEL. ❤️
Great video. I feel better about spending a week shooting and editing 1 video as opposed to getting stressed about posting 2-3 times a week
Subbed in the first 8 seconds just for that silky smooth intro

Well I’m three years late to the content party, but as I’m starting out, I’ve found great value in this. Thanks for making it. Peace to you and thanks for the great tips.
I’m going in videos learning how to create better content so thank you for sharing this!
When you talk about clicking on a video because it has someone’s name. That is why I watched this video because I know I can trust your videos.
Reminds me of the times Seth Godin rants on making something . . . "noteworthy." And what is noteworthy? Something worth making note of . . . .
Hehe. I love Seth Godin. Inspires me a lot.
Thanks. For the beginner like me. You give useful information and inspire me to do better.
1:11 my fat ass thought u said “pudding stuff out there” 😂😂
That's the NJ accent coming out 🙊
3:48...thank you Matt for creating good content that I am excited to see your video come up in my auto play. Keep it up man!
I just went and downloaded that episode. Thanks for sharing Matt!
Loved this so much thank you, Matt! I have been trying to figure out how to approach my channel the what, the how ,and the when you definitely tackled the when and being intentional about what to post.
Yeah this guy has got it clearly his vids are dope well done bro
Really liked the podcast with Hope. Definitely so much value in it. What I constantly struggle with is what constitutes "good" content? Do I establish what is good - or is it defined by how well it is received by the public?
That's a great question. I think all we can do is try to improve upon the work we've previously done. "Good" will change as you get better. I don't think it has as much to do with how the public receives it.

Question: I'm looking to start a podcast for my other buisness that I'm starting up. I was wondering what kind of mics those are? I really like the style and quality of those! Thanks!
Never have steered me wrong, love the channel Matt!
Great advice! I started subscribing to this channel because of your minimalistic approach to life, but it's inspiring me as a creator. Thank you sir.
He kills it, best youtuber out there
You talked about channels that post 10-15 minutes of great quality content
once every month, I think the perfect example is Lemmino
this is literally what I needed to hear, I love you and your content so much ♡
The algorithm got me here for interacting with it on past vids
I disagree some people are willing to accept the fact that not every week will be a movie. RUclips is a place for content creation, but it is also a social media platform. Something worth checking in on every day. It's all in an audience's taste
Would love to consider myself a creator one day but you always have consistent content, keep it up!
What a great video.. I started watching your videos a few weeks back and have really enjoyed them. Awesome stuff!
Thanks for sharing this! It definitely helps me as I lead a content creative agency. Thanks so much
Thanks man! Really trying to get better at filming, since I'm still new to this. Have the information, but have to work on my artistic eye.
Hi Matt, I really enjoy watching your videos and I get a ton of value from them. Keep up the good work!
This is incredible. THANK you for this Matt. 100%
Thanks, Andrew! Glad you liked this one.
Love the insight in your videos and Podcast.. it's something I want to continue to watch.
Couldn't agree more man, thanks for keeping it real and bringing wisdom to the table!
Could you make a video about tips and tricks to become a minimalist? I like what you do on your videos. Thanks in advance and keep going.
I love Matt I know you will give greatness!!!
Thank you, spirit 👊🏽
The trust thing is real. I'll watch these after I've already watched the hour long podcast. I just consider these my "after the show" episodes.
Thanks for watching! That's why I've been trying to add some more value into the excerpts as opposed to just posting them without commentary.
This was, really interesting and well thought out. I’m so fond of the edits you made in your conversation with Hope. That was great
The best channel I discovered this year!
Meaningful content Matt!! That's awesome.
Interact with like mined people in your community. That's key!
Tell us more about content creation! we know you're one of the bests in it!
Such an amazing channel and content! Thank you for this video brother, I really had to hear this.
Dude I just love your videos! So helpful
You have really inspired me Matt! Thank you so much.
Love your job!! And I love the concept!! Awesome! Keep going!!
This video popped up on my feed at the perfect timing because I’ve been working on getting this RUclips channel going again. Anyone in the same boat?
Thank you Thank you! Congrats on 80K
