    I just purchased this exact reel recently second hand and this video is exactly what I needed. Now I purchased a set (3) of replacement bearings ($12) and was wondering how often you replace the bearings being new one are so inexpensive. Now I have the confidence to tackle the tackle job! Thank You very much!

      Glad I could help! Bearings will last unless they get sanded or are not take care of, so you do not need to replace them often. You probably have the originals in the reel that you have. Just keep them clean and lubed and they will last a long time - Dennis

      @@2ndChanceTackle Hi Dennis- I completed the service last year after watching the video one more time for confidence sake and I'm happy to report it's still working just as it should. As a matter of fact it's now on my list of reels awaiting their yearly service. Boy doesn't time just fly! Thanks again for all you do!
      My next project is to service/inspect an original Accurate Boss 665h twindrag with a serial number under 200! I found it in excellent condition at an estate sale. Looking forward to watching the video you have on a similar model which I'm sure is comparable to my 665 for another boost of confidence. It's not rocket science right?! Haha!
      Another question- On this Accurate that I picked up (and have now idea how many years it has been sitting) it is loaded with either clear Fluorocarbon line (or very stiff mono). What's your feelings about when to replace (non braid) fishing line?
      Best Regards,

      @@2ndChanceTackle I did it! Replaced the anti reverse cam and the lever. Getting the spring reset while attaching the lever was a task. Got the rest of the reel tuned up too. Now looking to tuneup the line roller which is stuck. There’s a clip I can see that looks like it’s plastic and I don’t want to break it. Put penetrating oil on it to see if things loosen up. Once again you've tamed the Beast ! The first thing I thought of when he opened up the case was the original engineer saying, "How can I mess with those guys that service this reel ?! Hmmm...Let me add in a couple of c clips under everything and out of sight, just for fun !! Yup, that'll stump 'em." #€#×& (not... ) He/she didn't anticipate Dennis, the Reel Master from 2nd Chance Tackle. !!!

    Hi. Thank you for this great video. Would converting this reel to Teflon brake discs be an advantage. Which fat/oil can I use. Is this reel suitable for salt water? Thanks in advance

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  2 года назад

      The reel is designed for salt water. You can use most fishing reel greases and oils on the reel. Any manufacturer's grease or oil will do. Avoid common household or automotive products as they are not designed for maximum protection in marine environments. You should only change the drag washers if there is a problem with the current ones. No need to change to Carbontex or teflon unless you are wearing out the ones that came with the reel.

    • @2ndChanceTackle

      You should have a nut or screw that attaches the bail wire to the arm. If you remove it, you can pull the wire off of the bail arm and remove the line roller for servicing or replacement

    Is it possible that C clip that holds the rear drag in was in wrong on the reel you were working on? I kept putting the clip in as you showed with the shorter side going up towards the top of the reel. The side cover would not go all the way down in the back? About 32nd of a inch. Maybe 16th of a inch the side cover would stick up. When I took that clip out and turned it around with the shorter side of the C clip pointing down, the side cover would go done with the nice clap sound nice and flush. I wanted to verify so I took the other 2 I own apart to see what way that rear drag C clip that holds the rear drag in goes and they both were down. Was this reel a customers and they put it in wrong at one time and just tightened it up forcing it down? I was going nuts trying to figure it out? But from what I see with my 3 reels the C clip goes down. The dowels wont go in the rear holes other wise. Loved the video and it was a big help.

    Dennis....I recently acquired one of these 6500B reels second hand due to the overwhelmingly positive comments I read online. It is in almost new condition...not a scratch or blemish on it.First thing I noticed upon opening the box and turning the handle forward to tighten it for use was unlike my old trusty Diawa Apollo Silver Series reels that I cut my teeth on this reel...when turning the handle backwards...the handle doesn't turn the spool backwards...it just loosens the handle as if I was folding it up to put back in the box. Is this something peculiar to bautrunner types reels? Or am I not doing something right?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  3 года назад

      Your reel is working properly. The spool does not turn backwards and the handle unscrews because the Anti-Reverse is engaged. You need to flip the A/R override lever to the off position in order to back pedal this reel.

    Hello Dennis, great video, new subscriber. I have an older 6500 baitrunner. The body looks the same as the one in the video but my spool is black graphite and the main drag does not click when adjusting. The spool says "Shimano Triton Sea Spin 6500." I haven't used it in a few years but I am putting it on a new bridge setup. I've always taken care of it and it runs very smooth. What I notice though, is that there is a lot of play in the handle. When I hold the spool in place it wiggles about a half inch back and forth. Is there anything I can do about this? Or is this reel just not as precise as newer reels? Thank you.

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  4 года назад +1

      If that handle is threaded directly into the main gear, then it is general wear and from usage over time. I think the reel you have was made in the 1980s so it has had time to develop the play. I don't think anything short of replacing the gearing will help at this point - Dennis

      I know it's just me it's a fishing reel. People are always looking for the fanciest product out there like a bait feeder, level wind, automatic clutch release, 20 ball barrings, oh and need to be light weight and expect to catch a 800 lb tuna on it. What the freak wrong with people. You want the reel to catch, clean, and cook for you. Where's your man hood. It's no fun if it's easy I'll use a direct drive reel catch more fish any one else. All the extras just something else to break now your out of a reel for couple weeks until get repaired $$$ that's why it's called angling.
