Thank you! Very easy to follow😀. There are other excellent tutorials out there but this one is one of the best because beginners can easily follow along with each task, click, selection, etc. Again, thanks!
Hi C Kyung😉. According to your nice comment I would say: mission acomplished haha😃. I am definitly a fan of learning via the step by step methode. Thanks again, enjoy Gimp, and have good day!🌞 Jan. GW.
I'm having trouble in gimp trying to put a person behind a logo.. the problem I keep ruining into is the two pictures are not the the scale I want them to berelative to echother so first I cut the person out of the background and put him on his own alpha channel then I past the logo infront of him but when I try to rescale the logo the parts that were pasted in front of the person are somehow a stain or blemish in the man's tuxedo and his face and are stuck on the person and will not resize with the rest of the logo even though the rest of the logo will resize. What am I doing wrong its so frustrating.
I am trying to remove the creases and rips from a 70 year old colour photograph and your tutorial has taught me about some of the tools I could use. If I had an apple I would give it to you - my favourite teacher. Thanks.
Your tutorials are much easier to understand plus the hotkeys are readily shown at the screen. I love it very much, how I wish I have found this earlier. Thank you Sir...
The clearest and easiest tutorial so far on how to remove a background from a complex image like one with hair. Thank you so much indeed for taking the time to record it, I really have appreciated it!
Hey Glutor 73. Thank you for making the effort to post your positive comment.👍 You are very welcome, I am glad you like the tutorial. Enjoy the day.🌞 Best, Jan,GW.
Yikes! That's what I call a challenging image! And this is an excellent video. A clear explanation of what to do, and no smug 'look at me being clever' nonsense. The end result is remarkably good - I think the sneaky use of Smudge is particularly effective. After years of struggling, frustration and failing I've still got very little idea of how to use GIMP. It's an enormously capable tool, but with no instruction manual (and I mean a PROPER instruction manual!) I'm still at the stage of not even knowing what I don't know how to do with it! 😁 Thanks for this video. It's really helpful.
This is a very unique way of removing the background and it produces super results. I like that you uploaded a number of sample images so we can practice on new images. Your walk-thru was precise and easy to follow. I did the project in GIMP 2.10 without any problems. VERY GOOD! Thanks@
This one is pretty complicated if you attempt to use a white background. Lots of green shows up in the outer blond high lights. What I found it that before the layer mask is merged down, with the main image selected, I can air brush the green out of the outer edges of the hair with a color that I selected from the hair, them then hit it with a very very light eraser.
Well done Tutorial...i had to play it several times to grasp the technique...but i still don't understund the principle of curves in color menu....thank you
Thank you, doublestarsystem 😊 Selecting out hair is almost always difficult, at least when you want to make it look good, so that's maybe why the technique is a bit complicated. About curves, I have made a note on my to do list for a tutorial about the curves. But my list is getting rather long haha.😂 So it can take quit some time. Best regards, and thanks for posting. Jan. GW.
Thank you gimp workshop, this tutorial was very helpful. I was able to easily erase the background from my subject photograph even though it was a little pixelated.
Hi, thank you very much for this clear and step-by-step tutorial.. a big help for a GIMP beginner like me. I understood now more about layers and masks (white opacity) and its practical example you use here. Regards.
Thank you. I have Gimp 10 but managed to do the work. I was also working on more than one layer and got them all so the backgrounds changed to make a GIF. Sorry I did not see the additional motes but I am used to working with Photoshop Elements, so managed to work it out. You have a great and easy style to teach. Can you do one for Infinite Zoom and Continual Loop? Thank you again. Keep up the good work. I will look at more of your work as you are by far the best here and no plugging too :)
I am so glad that you take the time to let me know, so I can correct these things, so people get proper info!! When 2.10 was released, it was very much work to check all the differences, so I have obviously missed some issues. Thanks again Tissan. 👍👍👍
😊😊 (blush blush haha) Thank you, maybe this one helps also, its about selecting fur or short hair ruclips.net/video/t-eWfoYNvJE/видео.html Regards, Jan. GW.
Hi Elizabeth Toonen 😉 Of course you can. However, my things to do list is rather long and I work 4 or 5 tutorials in advance, so I am afraid it will not be very soon. Sorry about that. And finding a proper image is also a delicate matter, because I don't want to insult anyone...😮 Anyway, thanks for your input. Have a good day. Jan.
Hi Elizabeth. 😄Go to tools in the menubar and then to transform tools. Then click on the crop tool. Shortcut Shift+C. When you have clicked on it, the crop tool icon in the toolbox will light up, so you know where to find it, the next time you need it. Succes! 👌Jan. (I think you found it already, because your comment is no longer visible. 😂haha.)
Hi how do i highlight, and move text, either whole words, (large) or just single letters/numbers, without its background? Im sure i did it before, but cant remember how? Doesnt seem to be the 'foreground highlight' tool! There must be a fast and simple way? Cheers
hi after we have made our selection and we want to expand part of it can we do that ?or do we need to start over? thanks i have my answer just click on the points and move them
I've not seen another tutorial cut out fuzzy hair like this and it retain its color. Most attempts leave fuzzy hair on the outskirts almost spider webish which takes on the color of whatever background color is.
👉Tip: Gimp 2.10 users: Please read the video description for some additional notes 👈

I'm teaching myself through trial and error on gimp, and this video was clear and concise on what to do, how to do, and why to do. Thank you!

working with hair in an image is always a big problem. this your tutorial provides several useful tips! thank you
Great tutorial. I just want to add, when the background is uniform enough, I had great success with the "color to transparency" tool.
Well done Tutorial...i had to play it several times to grasp the technique...but i still don't understund the principle of curves in color menu....thank you

Zo, zeg, dat heb je snel en.... top super goed gedaan haha. Hardstikke leuk dat je zo enthousiast bent! Een warme groet uit koud Holland. ;-)
this one is easy because you have a separation with white n colored background, the problem is if u have d same color of background n the subject
in your case the remaining hair are somehow white. In mine and normally they are black. I thin invert colors would help in those cases.
Hello Chirag Ojha 😁 I did mention somewhere that one can inverter the image, so you are absoluty right. Have a great weekend. 👍
Hey Jan,
on the 2.10 version you have to click on Desaturate and then again on desaturate... to make it work.
Got it. Thanks again, and again, and again 😃
