The entire game would have been saved if you shoot Makarov in the flashback, Price goes "Wait...I did!", it switches to Makarov in the now and his head just explodes.
    Edit:
    Price:"Yeah...I definitely shot the guy."
Soap:"Then who the hell are we fighting?"

SOOAAAAP! WHY DIDN'T YOU JUJU ON THE BEAT!?
Jokes aside, Soap's death in this game is so underwhelming compared to the 2011 iteration. Whoever played Price in that scene acted like he just lost a close friend and it totally sold the moment. Maybe the new interpretation is less melodramatic, but I'm not feeling the "realism" is playing much to the game's benefit. This isn't exactly written like a Metro game. And killing off Shepard, one of your main antagonists, in a post-credit scene that's easily missable is something I don't really understand either.

    • @reecedignan8365
      @reecedignan8365 6 месяцев назад +52

It also comes down to the build up and unexpectedness of that scene.
In the original we got to learn alot about soap across 3 games.
In COD4 we played as him.
In MW2 we got to work alongside him and see his personality and skills commanding TF141 (you also saw how Price rubbed off on him)
And in MW3 you again fought alongside him and got to see the massive bond he and price shared across that game.
And when you get ambushed and he is killed it’s kind of a shock as your more likely think Price would kick it or something and then the Yuri and Makarov reveal builds that massively.
In the remake we get 2 games with him:
1 where we play with him a bit and do get to see his connection with Ghost.
And in this game we spend… very little time with him at all.
Hell Price’s reaction kind of makes sense with how little bond he had. Maybe they should of had Ghost along with him or it he Price and Gaz (you know the pair you had us building a massive bond between across 2 and a bit games)
But no, they just went “well people were shocked with Soaps death in MW3 they’ll be shocked here” vs actually understand “why” we were shocked.

      @booboo75842 6 месяцев назад +21

@@reecedignan8365Don't forget how much better Makarov and Shepherd were in the originals too. Makarov had MW2 and MW3 to himself as the antagonist and even backstory in MW3 explaining how he was there during the event of the original MW, detonating the nukes and killing 30,000 Marines. His motives were more interesting as he was formerly apart of the Soviet Union and wanted it to rise again. On top of that, his actions throughout the series made him a better, more fierce villain.
Shepherd in the original timeline was seeing red after 30,000 Marines were killed and he wanted revenge. He set up a plot to get Joseph Allen killed and frame the U.S. for an Inner Circle terrorist attack and start a war between Russia and the U.S. to settle the score with the Ultranationalists who sold the nukes to begin with.
All of that is just gone in the reboot and both villains are just so lame compared to their original counterparts.

    • @reecedignan8365
      @reecedignan8365 6 месяцев назад +19

@@booboo75842 not only that there motivations run deeper.
Makarov is an ultranationalists who wants the old Soviet Union back, but he also wants to see western civilisation collapse due to him seeing it as there fault the Soviets union collapsed.
You can also see the difference in how he and Zakhaev operated too (Makarov being Zakhaev’s own protege). Zakh was going to hit western nations with multiple ballistic missiles to start a war between the west and Russia, Makarov on the other hand attacked Russian citizens with a US operative knowing he could blame it on the US and force a war that way.
Makarov was more willing to sacrifice Russian blood and Zakh was and you can see it in how Zakh was remembered with a statue and the ultranationalist party gained more power in MW2 (which also explain why they were able to push Russia into war even when the president didn’t want it).
And your correct with Shepard too however remember his speeches about “being remembered in history” and “being the leading nation” and “why shouldn’t we be involved”.
He was very much a man who didn’t just want to “get even”; he wanted to be remembered in legacy as a great general; he wanted to completely wipe the world of americas enemies; and he very much wanted to be one of the great world leaders who helped shape it after the war.
His motivators lead him to sacrificing Allan to Makarov in helping to knowingly start WW3 between the US and Russia so he could achieve the goals above.
And it’s the reason he continually sends TF141 into quite hazardous situations after the war starts and even more so after he discovers Price is alive (why do you think the Navy just so conveniently try’s to bring down the Gulag after Price is discovered).
He was afraid of Price and TF141 because they knew of Zakhaev and Makarov, both knew they were the ones who were very much behind the attacks that tried to start the war. And getting rid of them was the only way Shepard had of making sure that information never got passed his desk - as that information had the quite successful chance of ending the war, something Shepard didn’t want.
And push into MW3 the consequences of both these men still play on. Due to Shepard the US is still suffering under Russian attack and occupation in several sectors.
Makarov himself seeing that the US are winning forces escalation by both attacking and kidnapping the Russian president - mostly as he wants access to the Nuclear codes - and escalates the dying way by bombing all of Europes main cities with chemical weapons. This not only bring these country’s into conflict and a hated standing against Russia, but also gives full reason for the Ultranationalists to launch preemptive strikes on the Euro countries.
And you get the ambush, soaps death, the mind battle between Price and Makarov and the final showdown.
And its even sadder when you compete old Makarov to new Makarov.
Old Makarov was devious, ruthless but also smart and cunning too.
He knew he could easily get away with the airport massacre because it was Ultranationalist of Zakhaev who were in power - and being Zakhaev’s protégé he had the extra reach of command and influence to know they’d back him and how they could use the situation.
He was also smart in how he continually set up TF141 and Shepard.
He let TF141 find Price knowing that it would cause friction in the Coalition Ranks.
He knew about Shepards very likely raid on his summer retreat why he left the info there, knowing Shepard would come for it and he could ambush the Coalition forces going for it.
At the boneyard same thing, all he didn’t expect was that Shepard himself was playing for an all in and was also just as much using TF141 as Expendables and that he Makarov himself was somewhat played by Shepard seeing finally why a US agent was practically handed to him… cause Shepard himself also very much played Makarov too.
And as above after Shepards dealt with and the US forces start to clean up the Russian invasion that the war looks to be ending, he escalates it.
He also goes hard against Price trying to kill the man hunting him but also break him for just how much he has messed up his plans.
New Makarov… he’s not that smart or devious. Yeah you have the Airplane scene but that comes off so f’ing bad when you just take 3 seconds to think about it (hell it would have been 10,000 times easier to actually find a Yuzi citizen who had pro-Russian sympathy’s and actually had them pull off this attack vs the shitstorm that was the plan in game.
      - and yes the fact that literary no one in the second cabin who are only disconnected from the first cabin by a small bit of velvet tarp, didn’t hear gunshots, didn’t hear a flashbang, didn’t hear the death or screams of the people upfront, didn’t get startled by the decompression in the cabin, didn’t get startled by the guy opening the blind, tossing the phone and woman into their cabin area… it’s just horrible.
Even the arena shooting is bad. Makarov seemingly has hundreds of armed men playing as all the police officers just for that event - it’s not even like you see any dead ones beside Maks men as if they spontaneously revealed themselves from within, no they all were Maks men.
The fact that yes people are rushing into areas of gunfire (funnily enough No Russia makes more sense as the 5 of the guys committing the massacre only go one way so people fleeing away from them as best as possible makes sense. Not fleeing into danger but away from danger).
And the fact that at the end during his escape in the original they leave, in this one they just spin out infront of the operators and give a very notable build up to speeding up to run them over vs I don’t know, playing along like an actual ambulance team responding to the situation?.
“Ahh but he wanted to get captured?”
Really? So why was he in an ambulance on the way out and acting like he didn’t want to be captured. And even if he escaped, he already drew TF141 away from the airport so?? Nothing changes id he’s captured or not.
And yes his only characteristic of this game is Ultranationalist Russian… you know, not like the other two prior Russian nationalists bad guys from the last games who had zero care for civilians lives or their own men’s lives.
FFS they even semi-redeem the only bad American pair.
Even the old cod knew there were good guys and bad guys on all sides of that conflict.
      From Shepard and Shadow Company on the coalition;
To South American and African gun smugglers and warlords who happily worked with both sides to escalate the conflict so they could gain money, power and equipment; to the president of Russia, Yuri and Nikolai who all tried to fight for the actual Russian Federation against the ultranationalist party.
Makarov and Zakhaev were the evil Russian bad guys but even the old team understood that there were people on all sides who were just as bad as the other and happy to exploit a war between the nations for their own power and gain.

New MW3: Farah stops war, Makarov only barely gets away due to plot contrivance (in my opinion), Soap dies again to plot contrivance (they needed to kill at least one and Ghost is too marketable), a lot of filler missions and middling set pieces, set up for another game because this was rushed and they want money.

Plus, the black box being wiped clean is sus in itself although it wouldn't conclusively point any one way or the other.
Speaking of Konni, what were they doing there? The attack was staged well enough, the guy who apprehended the player character in that scene wasn't Russian and I don't think any of the other armed men in that cabin were either, so to the media it'd look like the attack was performed by Urzikstanis. Yeah, and surely you could fake data from the black box anyway if you knew when and where you were planning to splode the plane? Perhaps not to the point that it was beyond reproach, but wiping the thing wouldn't be case closed. Wait, i just thought of something. The flashback mission on the Verdansk stadium takes place about 4 years ago, so the same year as MW2019 campaign. Clearly, Soap and Ghost were already around, and also a part of Price's personal squad. So here's the question: what tf were they doing during MW2019's campaign? What was so important that Price couldn't phone two trusted veterans he worked with before, but instead picked up a random cop -without proper military training- (Gaz) from the streets of London to go fight terrorists (and Russians)???
Edit: turns out Gaz did have military training. Either this was never mentioned in-game, or was a quick throwaway line somewhere. Could also be a plot hole, who knows with this new trilogy.

I would think the flashback is after the MW2019 storyline but there's no way. 40:30, this right here, is the DUMBEST moment in all of Call of Duty. Yes, I said it. I get this game is a fantasy war game, but this moment irks me to my core.
Soap, is on the ground. Marakov has allies around him. Soap is able to STAND UP from the ground without the allies in the back yelling, shooting or anything of the sort.
Soap, then screams and plunges a sharp object into the big bad villain. Where? Maybe the shoulder, maybe the neck. It's hard to tell from this angle. But there's red juice on the cheek and neck, it could be from the splatter. However, Makarov simple pulls the object out, grabs Soap by the arm and then ya know, offs him.
Even worse, is that based on the moments prior to Soap being on the ground, he's hit by Makarov, somewhere. Soap, for all we can see, has use of both his arms.
Soap, while Makarov is grabbing the knife, doesn't do anything to attempt and delay Makarov taking out the knife. He just lets him.
Say he only has one arm, and the other one is injured from the earlier assault. He can still let go of the sharp object.
Price, who is so wounded from being attacked earlier, isn't able to use his feet to disrupt Makarov, but instead, ever so slightly tries to stand up.
Moments later, Price is up and defusing a bomb.
All this, so Makarov can live.
EDIT: ALSO, reinforcement arrived while Makarov is standing in front of Price. By the time Price stands up, Makarov is GONE. Dude is Usain bolt.

The mission in this were not very fun at all, they were beyond generic and set in extremely generic map/locations.
First mission is a very simple go through a prison with pretty simple corridors and an open court yard and… that’s it.
Compare this to the first of MW3 where we fight through a Indian mountain village.
And not only that the game immediately starts building off the end of MW2 with this area being the safe house Price and Nikolai brought soap to be patched up and where we also meet Yuri.
Talking on mission 2. We get… a cargo ship and the small dock area beside it. Does anything interesting happen on this dock or ship?
No it’s just a vertical map you can move around and shoot.
MW3s second mission has you fighting as Delta Force through lower Manhattan through massive street fights, stock building and office buildings and such and even fighting on rooftops.
Mission 3 - we deploy into a very generic looking warehouse area and destroy some choppers.
Mission 3 in 2010 - you swim through the flooded tunnels of New York past sea mines and out to a Russia Sub in the strip. Board that sub and disable its ballistic missile launchers before they can attack important areas and the US fleet.
You also get a nice dingy escape back to a chopper between waring ships.
      Hell let’s even talk MW2:
First mission of old MW2, you meet general Shepard, Private Allan and fight across a small bridge area and after loading into a motorised convoy drive through streets before getting caught in an ambush and lighting up said buildings with your mini gun.
Once your forced out of your vehicle your into house to house fighting and into a school assault.
Mission 2 is a semi-well paced stealth mission that sets you up with the heart beat sensor and the heavy snow storm to let you go about and make your way to the target area solo and then to a rendezvous area after.
You can easily go loud but it does try to get you in the stealth mindset to start it atleast.
However, after that and a small break in the action, soap gets “captured” you blow the aircraft and fight your way to some snowmobiles and zoom through the area, down a ramp and jump to freedom on the other side of a massive casm.
Mission 3 ignoring No Russia, your fighting through a South American favela initially starting off in a slum in a drainage ditch where there are multiple paths and area where enemies can ambush you from all sides with but still gives you plenty ability to advance forward and find cover.
After that your fighting street to street up the favela level by level and enemies why linearly infront of you, do come at you from different areas, some from windows that break open, some from the roofs of the next area, some from doorways and alleyways before you, etc.
And thing is these three are some of the least interesting mission before you start getting into
Wolverines, Hornets Nest, Exodus, Only Easy Day, Gulag, of your own Accord, Second Sun, Whiskey Hotel, Loose Ends, Enemy of my Enemy.
Old cod for all its flash and linear mission design actually had a lot of nice balance between fast and loud gameplay and slow and silent; it also meant they actually had to create memorable missions and level design that would stay in your memory and stick with you forever.
Not what this MW3 did which was essentially recycle what looks like generic multiplayer maps - and I won’t be surprised if they are.

@@andrewfreeman1039 I respect your opinion, but with that opinion I can't respect you a person. Call of Duty always has a great campaign story but it come to downfall after MW2019, now it's just... you don't even need to play older CoD campaign to know that this is not worth the money.
I don't really have fun playing MW3 campaign and I regret every single baht I pay for this shitty game because fuck the Multiplayer.

That cutscene at 29:00 killed me. The wake turbulence from the AC130 (?) would make those helos smash themselves into the surface and kill everyone onboard. Why the fuck is the helo taking off at the same time as the gunship anyway? On the same runway? In parallel? WHAT?!

Why is it that congress cares more about who ordered who to open fire on TF141 than who ordered Shadow company to go through a neighboring ally's city and turn it into a ghost town? Like what the fuck, did they bring in a bad fanfic writer for this shit? Who cares what happened to a bunch of British commandos working ostensibly for the CIA an American based PMC tore apart a Mexican town to fuck with the local Cartel. There are actual civilian deaths to be concerned about, TF141 didn't take a single casualty. Everything related to this version of Shepherd is so, SO painfully stupid.

But you're smoking crack if you think it's better than og mw2s. They avoided it, that's how crazy that mission was. Overall, this came out at the last possible second and not too bad like the new ideas they wanted to try campaign side.little too far cry tho.

This iteration of Shepard is so bad. Like he’s not intimidating at all and has never shown in these games how he’s a fucking four star general because all his plans go wrong or fuck up in some way. I get the og Shepard wasn’t realistic but he is miles better as an antagonist. He actually commanded respect when he was on screen and felt intelligent with his plans because they actually worked.
