    Easily the greatest video on RUclips. Very descriptive, great visuals, excellent graphics explaining the status, great narration. This is the epitome of “how-to’s”. Keep em comin, keep up the great work, and keep crankin our useful content👍🏻

    towards the end you poured something into the hole the spark plug came out of. was it 2 cycle fuel? I'm only wanting confirmation because I recently did a lot of what you just did to a 100rx and when I finished lubed the piston and reassembled and it now won't crank to save its life..

      I poured in some fuel mix (2cycle fuel). This helps to prime the engine for the first start without too many pulls on the starter. You do this and even if there is a problem with the carb, the engine will fire up even if it is for a second or so.Once you know it fires up you would need to check the fuel delivery (carb. fuel lines, filter). But if it does not fire with the priming, you will need to check the ignition (and timing), valves (timing and clearance). Because as long as there is compressed air, fuel and a proper spark, the engine should combust the fuel

    I haven't used that brand of sealer. Only Dirco HT

    Sorry couldnt get captions up but wanted to know if you were checking coil output with the digital meter. If so what is it called and what readings do you expect from a good coil. Thanks for your time.

    • @joe54chn
      @joe54chn  9 лет назад +1

      I think you need to click on the 'sprocket' figure, down on the right hand side of the screen and you get the annotations options (On/Off). Selecting on should make the captions visible. Regarding me checking the coil. I was just using a regular digital tachometer. If the tach shows a reading of any kind (120 or above rpm) it happens because the coil is generating enough voltage to spark. That is all.I found this the simplest way to check whether a 'sparkable' current was being generated. But this method does not show whether the spark is generated at the correct timing.

      It should cross a 8mm gap consistantly at cranking speed. U would need a multimeter to check it for voltage which isn't normally necessary but if you really insist I can go into my stihl shop manual and find out what the voltage is. I think its between 24KV and 30KV.

    Mine stopped working after I used it. And a day later it wouldn't turn anymore. It might be because my dad didn't put a mixture in it but pure gasoline. Do you have any idea?

    • @joe54chn
      @joe54chn  8 лет назад +5

      You could confirm the engine being stuck by trying to see if the engine can be turned over manually with the starter remove. But dont use force. If it is indeed stuck the normal procedure would be to dismantle the engine and replace any damaged parts, usually, at least the piston. But, before going for a full fledged repair you might be able to revive the engine by using a 1:1 mixture of fuel and two stroke oil. Remove the spark plug and pour in a couple of teaspoonfuls. Lay the engine on its side, carburetor side up. Remove the airfilter and the filter housing, hold the throttle wide open and pour an ounce or two of the 1:1 mixture into the carburetor. Remove the valve cover and pour some of that mixture on the valves and down through the tappet rod passages. Now try to manually rotate the starter pulley on the crankshaft anti-clockwise. If you get it to do that by even a small bit, move it clockwise a bit and then anti-clockwise. Now rock the pulley back and forth (clockwise and anti-clockwise) in increasing increments till the engine frees up. Refit the starter.Hold the engine upside down and with the ignition switch in OFF and the spark plug out pull on the starter several times to drain out the 1:1 mixture. Repeat with regular mixed fuel. Drain out, fit everything back. Dont use the choke, hold the throttle open a bit and try to start it. If you are lucky you might have saved yourself some money. Good Luck

    I bought a 2016 FS-130r with a locked up engine for $63.Would this be worth rebuilding?

    • @joe54chn
      @joe54chn  5 лет назад +2

      Sorry for the delayed response. The main issue to be considered the the reason for the lock up. If it was just a minor seizure you could easily revive it. I have explained the procedure that I follow for this in a reply to ' animeworldnr1'. Crankshaft bearings? You will need to replace the whole crankshaft because the bearings are factory set. Major piston seizure? You will need to replace the piston, but if the cylinder is damaged, that would be the whole engine block! I would say your decision should depend on economic viability. If you are willing to spend the money it is possible to repair it, whatever its condition. And it will give you years of service. It is 2019 did this rebuild 6 years ago. This engine is still going strong and was a viable project even though subsequently I had to replace the carb and later the ignition coil.

    How do I adjust the time on my stihl fs90r the worker I had using it said the flywheel part came loose and engine stoped now we cant figure out how to find TDC of the piston so we can set the flywheel?

    • @joe54chn
      @joe54chn  9 лет назад

      The flywheel has a key that goes into a groove on the crankshaft.You just need to put the flywheel back aligned to this groove. That is all.

      you might want to re set the gap on the coil too. If you don't have the feelers i guess u can use a business card. It shouldn't have come off on its own since the bolt is probably self tightening. Maybe he had a blade on it

    Quand on veut changer le pignon de vilebrequin côté distribution le pignon de distribution s'enlève t'il ?
    Merci

    • @joe54chn
      @joe54chn  5 лет назад

      Par pignon, voulez-vous dire le pignon qui fait tourner la roue à cames qui active le mécanisme de soupape? Si cela est correct, le pignon du vilebrequin est monté en usine. S'il est retiré, vous risquez de changer le calage de la vanne. (traduit en ligne par un traducteur anglais vers français) :)

    Mine has lost compression what could it be. Was told something to do with valves and would cost a fortune

    • @joe54chn
      @joe54chn  9 лет назад +1

      oakidoki guitar If you stored it for some period of time without turning it over to compression stroke the valves would be off their seat. More so with the exhaust valve seat. It would gather some rust which would cause leaks. If you are 'machine savvy' maybe you could take some action which could be a remedy. Like turning the engine to its compression stroke but little below TDC. Loosen the exhaust valve rocker and move it to a side. Remove the valve lock washer and spring. Fit a tube that is very tight onto the valve stem and then run the tube to and fro between your palms to rotate the valve to and fro.This will clean up the valve and the seat up to a point.Fit everything back, squirt some oil into the cylinder and try it. If it starts up the working of the valve itself will complete the job. Maybe for some time you will need to add a little more oil the fuel.

    is it true that running strainght gas on stihl's 4 stroke will seize the engine?

    • @joeTM51
      @joeTM51 7 лет назад +1

      It has two run on a fuel mix that contains 2 Stroke Oil. Otherwise it would seize because it has a dry sump

    Whay not have anything for information this using a seperat reservor to oil ?? Or chek oil ...i distroied sthil 87r becouse i don'know anything to put the oil ....

    • @joe54chn
      @joe54chn  8 лет назад

      The Stihl 4-Mix engines do not have oil reservoir/sump. Lubrication occurs with the 2-stroke oil that is added to the fuel (50 parts fuel to 1 part Stihl 2-Stroke oil or 25 parts fuel to 1 part other brands of 2-Stroke oil). Your FS87 has a 4-Mix engine and the above applies
