Most schools in Russia starts in the early morning, so students often wake up by 6:30 AM. After some quick breakfast, where it is mostly tea, porridge, or bread with cheese- they head to school either using by public transportation or on foot, depending on how close they live. When at school, it begins with lessons. Russian schools have a usually have a schedule that includes subjects like mathematics, literature, Russian language, history, and science. For this age group, students also start learning other/foreign languages, most commonly English or German. Each lesson lasts about 45 minutes, with short breaks in between too, and the school day usually ends by 2-3 PM. In class, students are actually expected to be attentive and respectful. Teachers in Russia are seen as strict and place a high value on discipline and academic performance. Students take down notes, work out sums, and many time engage in class room discussions. During the school day or time, there is also a lunch break within the confines of the school day or time for the pupils. The school does has a cafeteria and the foods available there are soups, pasta, potatoes, meats and tea. Lunch is important as they needed some break. After school, this often happens after school where a good number of the students engage in such activities called, extra-curricular activities. Some just go to music or art classes and while some also engage in sporting activities. By the evening, students return home to complete their homework. Russian schools often assign a lot of homework, especially in subjects like math and language. After finishing, they may just relax by doing what they prefer like watching the TV before going to bed around 9-10 PM to prepare for another school day.
