Pieces representing the beginnings of Tokoname Yaki were made at the end of the Heian era (794-1185) and it is now counted among Japan's six oldest kilns.

As an American, I can tell you most non-Japanese people would like you to change nothing. The authentication of your work is beautiful. When anyone travels to a country of such beauty and life, we wish to only take a piece of that home with us. To cherish, for memories and to eventually pass on to our children.

"pass on to our children" who will sell it for 5 bucks to a stranger on the internet.
but I agree, the authenticity of unique craftsmanship from different parts of the world is something to be respected and should be maintained, so future generations can appreciate it for being "not like the stuff we got"

So much care taken with each teapot. I would love to visit Japan and buy your wonderful pottery. I love drinking tea and to have the correct pot and cups is essential to making an excellent cup of tea. Your pots are very beautiful. It is wonderful that nothing is stamped out by a machine, it is all made with care by hand. Thank you for showing us your incredible tea pots.

Omg. What a satisfying creative life these artists have ...and here I am in soul destroying insurance job. Are you noticing how none of these people wear glasses.....the workmanship is perfection.

I have been to 14 different artisans all around Japan, and all but four artists, young and older, all wear glasses. My daughter and her husband are in Japan now for their anniversary and have revisited some we first met in the past 5 years, and all admitted they take off their glasses for the cameras! Most don't care what others think of aging and failing eyesight - they just want to see well to create the beauty they love! I'm excited and hopeful my new teapot makes it home all in one piece as all the others have - because I was so careful when packing, and also hope my daughter took good notes on wrapping and boxing safely.
Beautiful work yes - though they consider it life's passion - not really work.

His name is Hokujo. If you don't live in Japan, you can get it shipped directly from the Tokoname association website, or from artistic nippon. tokoname_dot_or_dot_jp_slash_teapot is the link for the former, the second is easy to find.
