I watched this twice. I was sitting outside having morning coffee with the sun in my face. Glad I came inside to watch it again to see the beautiful colors of the buildings and the gnomes more clearly. You are always so respectful of churches but glad to see a glimpse of them. Thanks for another peek of your travels. Kathleen
Just love you guys! My husband & I watch all your videos sometimes twice. You have inspired us to do some slow travel, even though we are a bit older, never too old right! Definitely have to add Poland to our list, looks amazing 🙂
Thank you for watching!! Poland is a beautiful country. We only wish that we had made more time to explore other places like Gdansk. We may have to come back next year! Cheers!!🍻

Hi, i am polish and i’m very happy that You had nice time in Poland. First thing Poland is a very safe country and You dont have to afraid. People are friendly and very helpfull. Just ask if You have any problem. About Wroclaw i love this city in Christmas time. Very charming christmas markt. Please come back in december 😊
Hi! Thank you 😊 We found everyone to be so kind and welcoming. We do hope to return near Christmas to enjoy the markets, they sound wonderful. Thanks so much for watching.
Another beautiful city in Poland, can’t wait to visit and see more of the country. Great video again, you provide lots of great information 👍 we love watching you both on these adventures.
The dwarves became so popular that every large company wants to be represented by one. So now there are +/- 800 of them here in Wrocław! And counting! Insane but still cute 🤣
It looks lovely. Not been there. Only stayed in Warsaw and Krakow. A lot of this reminded me of Krakow, especially the bars and restaurants on the river. It is going onto my list of places to stay after this video.
Hello from Wrocław :) It's so nice to hear so many positive things about my city. There's one thing that you got wrong in your video. Wrocław doesn't have the largest town square in Europe. It's Kraków - another Polish city. Have a great stay in Poland :)
It actually depends on what is considered a market square. In Wrocław there is the Salt Square just attached to the market square and it makes a whole of a difference. most of the time you'll hear that the one in Kraków is bigger. Having said that the ones in Wrocław and Kraków are not only the biggest in Europe. They are the two biggest market squares in the world.

I really like the way ya'll do your videos showing us some of the beautiful and quaint scenery as well as telling us about the highlights. Good choice of music also! I love Brian's "send the kids to find nomes and you find beers, its a win win" comment. So funny!
I never thought of visiting due to the location and the war in Ukraine. But it looks safe and so lovely! I don't speak Polish so I feel vulnerable going there on my own.
ok guys, you inspired me, I am adding Wroclaw to my list. Thumbs up also to Carrie for correct pronunciation. 🙂 Next time in Poland, pls consider visiting Gdansk, we really loved it there.
Did you notice that I (Brian) didn't say the name Wroclaw at any time in the video? 😆 We have heard a lot about Gdansk and will have to add it to our list for next year. Thank you for watching and commenting!! ❤
Loved your being in Poland and all your pics and videos. Thanks for posting. Looking forward to starting traveling ourselves in about 6 weeks or so when we launch from the USA.
We will eventually get up to Gdansk. We simply didn't have enough time this year. Thank you for the recommendation and for watching our channel! Cheers!!🍻
Great memories! We bought a gnome map at the tourist office and went on a full day gnome hunt. With the golf carts - it is better to check the price online. Usually they charge per golf cart - we were 3 persons and they asked the same price but per person. We just walked away until we found one for the correct price.
Hi Brian &Carrie~ we really enjoy your videos. As always, with this video, you’ve opened our minds to visiting places we’ve never heard or considered. This city looks like a picture perfect fairy tale city. I look forward to watching your video on the Czech Republic. Ever since we watched the HBO MAX documentary called CZECH IT OUT, we’re sold. It’s a super fun show featuring a father/daughter road trip through their native country and it looks spectacular. (My husband and I are always amazed at the quality of interior design and architecture you see in even the humblest of bakeries and cafes throughout Europe. There’s such detail to beauty that we sorely lack here in the Seattle area. Our minds blown🤯). if you have the capability to view the program, they will show you one beautiful location, including plenty of beer joints and coffee cafes, after another. It’s also very entertaining. Thank you for the inspiration 😊🙌🏻
We totally agree - even the smallest establishment can have so much history and character inside. Thank you so much for the show suggestion, sounds great!!
The wine industry in Poland, according to our tour guide a few years ago, is fairly new and an up and coming. That hotel looks very much like the one we stayed at when we were there in 2016. We were walking distance from all the stuff downtown. I'd have to look up the name but I'm not sure we have it written down anywhere. The other city we liked a lot is Gdansk. All the cities we visted were great though.
We have heard a lot about Gdansk and may be coming back next year. It looks amazing!! The wine industry is relatively new. Our friend started his vineyard within the last 6 years or so. Thank you for watching our channel! Cheers!!🍻
For a moment, when you were outside of Wrocław, in a winery, I flashed a glimpse of the Mountain, which they say is the Slavic Olympus. There are carvings of bears and others dating back to Celtic times, worship of the solar deity was already before our era. You showed Wroclaw very well. Good luck and have a nice experience in getting to know my country.😀
@@BrianandCarrie Thank you for your kind words, that you like it. Wrocław is the capital of the Dolośląskie Voivodeship. But the real charm of this region lies further south. When you were going to the winery, on the plateau you saw a mountain that looked like a volcano, Mount Ślęza, and in the background on the horizon you could see the Owl Mountains, famous for their secrets from the Second World War. There is a large Książ Castle, which was supposed to be Hitler's headquarters, these mountains have a lot tunnels where the Germans buried a lot of secrets, it is suspected that they were working on antigravity, and in another place there are ruins of buildings where experts stated that they are typical buildings for a nuclear reactor, and even further south, the charming Sudety Mountains typical for tourists with such tourist towns as Karpacz and Szklarska Poreba.😃
Gorgeous. I see almost no graffiti. Fantastic. Is this true for all the places you’ve seen so far in Poland, or just what you filmed for this video? Thanks, Elizabeth
3 meters of snow - hahaha maybe 40 years ago - now when 20 cm falls it's a lot - and not every winter. Now there are no such winters in Poland - global warming is taking its toll.
Great video! Thanks for making it all about Wroclaw and not about you. So tired of these so-called influencers blah blah blah-ing about themselves and not talking about the actual destination. We LOVE Poland and have a lot of personal and family history there. We go every year and will be in Krakow and other places in August. Thanks again. Subscribed!
We need to get back to Poland for longer stays. We were fast traveling and didn't give it the time it deserves. Thank you for watching and helping make this channel what it is!! Cheers!!🍻
Great content as always! I bet you're having second thoughts on wizzing through some of these places. I realize a month in one place might be a bit much for most, but many of these places deserve at least a week each, maybe two. Have a great trip to the Czech Republic (Czechia)! Looking forward to your upcoming content from there!
We are not having second thoughts but do wish that we could get to places like Gdansk in Poland or Berlin for the history. We are looking forward to getting to Florance so we can settle in for a month. But you are correct. We could spend a month in each country that we visit. This will give us a good idea of what our future plans could be. Thank you for watching and commenting!! Cheers!!🍻
The historical coat of arms of Silesia is the coat of arms of the Lower Silesian Piasts ( Polish Dynasty ) - the coat of arms of the Piast dynasty, ruling the principalities of Lower Silesia. It was a shield with a golden field with a black eagle with a silver crescent band running through the eagle's wings and breast, which was crowned with a cross. Wrocław historically belonged to the Czech Republic for about 500 years, to Poland for about 400 years and to Germany for about 200 years.
I saw Mikey! I saw Mikey! Great plug for his winery! I absolutely LOVED the gnomes! I'd be searching for all of them because you know me, 56 going on 5! 🤣🤣 Great video guys! I loved the beautifully colored houses and that street food fair thingy was huge! Can't wait to see your next vid! xoxo Me!😘
Haha, you would be looking for every last one 😂. It was so great to visit the winery and meet Mike - thank you for the suggestion to go ♥. Poland is so beautiful and with the amazing food and beer....boom, it's a must-visit! xoxo 😘
Thank for the video. As viewer input, we prefer more talking than the many video clips set to music. We always appreciate you describing your experiences and recommendations. 👍
Looks awesome, thanks for the tour! We have had Gdansk on our *see at some point* list, will you be heading up there this trip? I hope so, would love to get our take on it 😃
Unfortunately we will not be going to Gdansk but it is on our list for next summer. It does sound like a great place to visit we just couldn't fit it in.
Glad to see someone appreciate my favourite Polish city! Krakow may have more history, but there is plenty here for history geeks as well. And Wrocław has a very young soul; I like to say it's a city which keeps re-inventing itself. Culture, art, lifestyle, cuisine... For example, it holds the most prestigious early music festival in Poland. And a lot of interesting quirks if you keep looking around. Ostrów Tumski (where you started the video), which is now a peninsula but used to be an island with a lot of ancient church-related architecture and institutions, is one of the very few places in the world which has streets lit by old-fashioned gas lamps. And a dude in fancy historical clothes who lits them every evening.
It is a very interesting city! We had a great time but really didn't get to stay as long as we should have. We usually slow travel for a month at a time but only had a couple of days in Wroclaw. We will return to Poland someday soon. Thank you for watching and telling us a bit more about the city! Cheers!!🍻
@@michastepien8326jak nie ma? To jest druga stolica Polski. A co najważniejsze jedyne miasto w Polsce nie zniszczone. Spoczywają tam praktycznie wszyscy królowie Polski.

I love your guys' videos. I just retired myself and have moved to Mexico with a plan to begin full-time travel in a year or two. Your monthly cost videos are so helpful, and you've opened my eyes to all kinds of places to travel which I never thought of before. As a solo traveler, budget is very important to me as well. One question for you, Carrie ... we always see Brian get his hair cut but how often do you get your hair done and what does that usually cost ? :-)
So happy you've found out videos helpful 😊. As for my hair, unfortunately it doesn't grow fast enough to need much cutting. But, I will say we have always seen so many options for salons in the cities we've been.
Fantastic video guys. I have been on an ancestry mission and just found out that my 2x Great Grandfather was a merchant apprentice based in Wroclaw (formerly Breslau, Prussia) before he moved to the United Kingdom. Your video is the first time I have ever seen the city and wow what you captured is beautiful, I now want to go there and trace his steps even more. Subscribed!
@@BrianandCarrie my son likes it. In fact he met a woman there and just got married. I hope to see him next May where they are going to do a church wedding
Hi Guys, Thanks for another great video! What an incredibly beautiful city. I loved the gnomes what a great idea. I am assuming you went from Silesia to Bohemia. Did you visit Cesky Krumlov and what do think of Czech beer?
@@BrianandCarrie I have been to Bruno several times when I lived in Bratislava and Piestany. It's not as picturesque as where you were in Poland but not expensive and busy like Prague. My nephew is starting university there in September to become a doctor. He and his girlfriend have rented a studio apartment in the center for 380€ a month including utilities. If you are heading south I highly recommend Budapest.
We ended up in Brno for a few days and really enjoyed it, it is next week's video! 😃 Unfortunately we won't be making it to Hungary. For the second year in a row Schengen will interfere with how we navigate the region in 90 days.
In a way I am not surprised that you went to Bruno. It's not a tourist destination so alot cheaper than Prague. The 90 day Schengen rule is a problem. It doesn't affect me as I am resident in Spain. If you visit Slovakia, Bratislava is nothing special but the high Tatra mountains in the east are worth seeing. Where will you go to stay out of Shenghen? I am looking forward to the Bruno video. 😊
really enjoying your videos guys, your doing a great job. Sitting here in Canada we are jealous, we go to Thailand in November, planning to move permanently
Thank you. We are very much enjoying our travels. For us, the change in environment and scenery is so stimulating that we just plan on slow traveling around the world until we decide not to. Thank you again for all the support. Cheers!!🍻
We did a video about a year ago that we need to update, in that video we decided on Portugal and believe that it would still be the case. The Algarve region is beautiful.
We really like the eastern side, Vila Real de Santo or Tavira. On the Western end, we like Lagos. Here is a video that we did while we were there. ruclips.net/video/CgljfAtydiM/видео.html Cheers!!🍻
It really hasn't been a problem at all. Learning a few keywords is a great idea. Most people that we have encountered know some basic English. We are finding that every place that we traveled to so far.
Sunday in a lot of countries in Europe is a day of rest, Poland included. Most shops/business are forbidden by law to operate on Sundays except on pre-approved, selected Sundays. Thus the reason why the square is not crowded.
A little story behind the gnomes. In the 80., during one of the harshest Communist times, when underground opposition painted some anti-government slogans on the city walls, the police was immediately sent to paint it over. Then the opposition painted another slogan on it, and the police was sent again to cover it, and then again and again... One day instead of a new slogan someone painted... a gnome. Police was confused, what shall they do with that? Fighting with gnomes seemed to be ridiculous. But soon everyone knew that the gnomes meant resistance. Soon this developed into one of the most original and colorful anti-communist movement in the Eastern Europe - called Orange Alternative (google it!). People demonstrating in gnomes costumes, shouting nonsense slogans and calling it The Revolution of Gnomes. The gnomes all over today's Wroclaw is a visible sign they won 🙂
Yet again quality content you two. The river pics seem to have a Prague feel to them. Yet the town hall seemed to be more German architecture. Plenty of churches like all European cities. Anything overly notable for this town as opposed to Krakow? I'd like to think that there is more to view than the various gnomes/draves scattered throughout. It is always good to see where you guys are staying. Plenty of people in longer pants Seems a bit cooler. Safe travels.
The two cities are comparable but each unique in it's own way. The weather has been mostly sunny with a few rainy days mixed in. Something that we are used to. 😀
@@flughafentxl That"s only a small part of the story. Wroclaw was Polish for 400 years, then also belonged to the Kingdom of Bohemia for another 400 and only then became German. After world war 2 the Russians stole Lviv from Poland and moved it's population to Wroclaw (stolen by the Russians from Germans) Russians moved Poland West and made it in to a buffer zone between west and east. In Wroclaw you can see elements of architecture from all of those countries. This makes Wroclaw very unique.
My one funny story about Poland is. I was at Warsaw airport walking through a duty free killing time. I picked up a bottle of vodka named Rasputin made in Germany. So a bottle of vodka with a Russian name made in Germany sold in Poland I am sure the polish people have enough reason to hate both.
Hotel prices in their bars are always higher than town bars. That's a given. I stayed at a good hotel in Bristol UK recently; bar price for a single gin was nearly £6
I am amazed how a lot of foreign countries have better churches, mosques or temples. I think the reason is a lot of these countries have had wars over religion and the winning religion would tear down the losing religions place of worship and build huge places of worship to mark their territory.
Hi Jan! I typically do a plan for about 5 months out. We vary from that quite a bit though and just like a tentative plan. I mainly use Google flights, airbnb and Expedia. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the great video! My husband and I are going there soon and can’t wait! May I ask approximately when you visited? I currently live in Spain and it looks like we may need rain coats 😮
Hi, Joanna! We just left last week, and we are still dodging the rain. This weather reminds us of home! We will be in Italy next week where we understand it is quite hot. Thank you for watching! Cheers!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie Yes, western Europe is crazy hot and crowded. I cannot speak for Italy, but the heat in Spain had really been insufferable. Really, be careful. It’s been dangerous. I’m looking forward to spending time in a cooler climate. Poland also seemed quite tame in terms of crowds from your videos. Safe travels!
Been awhile since I checked your vids. Did you ever acquire Schengen visas ? I just got mine yesterday, and am I jacked ! Leaving US, moving to France asap !
Hi! Fortunately, we don't need a special visa to travel here as we automatically get three months in the Schengen zone. That is great, congrats! You must have gotten a different visa, other than the Schengen visa, if you're moving to France?
@@BrianandCarrie France has a surprisingly straight forward long stay visa process. One year increments. VLS-T non-renewable, have to go back to US and apply again and another VLS-TS Visiteur, renewable annually in France. Apparently what retirees use. I am applying from the US in September before heading to PT to buy myself a little more time in Europe.
So many, so many people write they will add Poland to their list; million of turists go to Spain, Italy, Greece, ...., mainly just because of the sun (1st reason). generally, people are not curious of other destinations, and you can have a proof in the coments underneath
yes, as I said; but how many people are still surprised that Poland is such a nice country......precisely because they are not curious, it is still for many of them a completely unknown country @@BrianandCarrie
Is there a significance to the gnomes? Or any clue why they have them placed all over the city? Still decent temps in France, in case you need a respite from the heat in Italy. Santé from Bordeaux.
We don't think that there is a significance to the gnomes. They are worth mentioning in the video, but that topic is played out a lot in other RUclips videos. We are hoping that the temps decline over the next week or so before we arrive. Thank you for watching.
Actually there is a story behind these gnomes. It all started with the Orange Alternative an anti-communism underground movement when we were a part of Warsaw Pact. They protested in a peaceful way using some humorous elements like little dwarves to show how absurd the whole situation was and to encourage people to not be afraid. For instance they made graffiti with dwarves on the walls where regime tried to cover anti government slogans or leading whimsical marches through the streets of Wrocław advocating for 'dwarves rights'. When we got rid of communism, in 2001 this movement was commemorated with a bronze statue of large dwarf. 4 years later a local sculptor proposed to create many tiny bronze gnomes, each representing a different part of Wrocław's history or daily life and place them around the city.
Can you tell me which country you claim to live in with Cigna global? It seems weird to state your planning to live somewhere for the duration of your policy when you know you will be in several different countries. Thanks and I owe you guys a beer in advance.
Hi, when we spoke to a agent they advised to pick where you would be spending the most time. As well as where you would consider the place you will then return to if you need to settle in for a stretch.
Wroclaw was a German city and called Breslau until 1945, when all 650,000 German inhabitants were expelled, like the other 3.4 million Germans from surrounding Silesia. This makes Wroclaw, formerly Breslau, the largest city on earth, of which the entirety of its population was expelled. They all had to flee beyond the newly established border river, the Lusatian Neisse. All nice old buildings in Wroclaw from before 1945 were either built by Germans or rebuilt by Poles after the war. The city was basically a German-speaking city from around 1300 till 1945. The descendants of the Slavic founders of the village from before 1300 were of course also expelled in 1945 since they had become German-speaking over time. One wonders what they did with the extensive German graveyards with all the German graves. The old houses of the city keep wondering why they don't understand the new inhabitants anymore. And therefore, it is disrespectful to talk about this city exclusively in a Polish context because most of the architecture you admire there, are the buildings from before 1945.
I am curious to know why you chose to go back to Poland during these times of unrest with Russia? I’m not sure how accurate investigator news reporters (that are actually there in Poland reporting the news) are, but it appears Russia is threatening Poland in many ways. Poland Army is ramping up their forces so they are prepared for any attack from Russia. I do not mean to disrupt your video travel blog and I know Poland is a beautiful country with beautiful people, but for me, going there right now to vacation travel would be a little unnerving. Any thoughts on that?
and you believe reporters who are paid to scare viewers? no one here is worried about russia, people from western countries need to stop listening to putins lies.
We cancelled this trip last year when the war broke out and headed to Portugal. We watch world news closely in every region that we plan on traveling to and don't feel like Poland is a dangerous place at all. If you talk to the locals and people that actually live here, they go about their lives with very little concern.
@@BrianandCarrieYes, people are going to go about their daily lives even with war threats. That’s pretty normal. Ukraine does that everyday until their cities are bombed. Glad the two of you are enjoying your stay and staying diligent. 😊

They are the two biggest market squares in the world.
niestety ale nie masz racji, wrocławski jest wiekszy od krakowskiego
Very surprised..great looking city.
It sure was - thanks so much for watching!!
Looks great, thanks for sharing, only been to Krakow, Poland is so affordable, certainly cheaper than here in the UK 😢

Zgadzam się! Greetings from Australia!❤️
Great memories! We bought a gnome map at the tourist office and went on a full day gnome hunt. With the golf carts - it is better to check the price online. Usually they charge per golf cart - we were 3 persons and they asked the same price but per person. We just walked away until we found one for the correct price.
That sounds like so much fun 😊😊. We enjoyed stumbling across them while walking around, but by golf cart sounds like so much more fun.
Thank you so much! You have a very beautiful county and we hope to explore much more one day soon. 😊
That is an amazing piece of history! Thank you for adding your comments to the channel! We very much appreciate it. ❤
Gorgeous. I see almost no graffiti. Fantastic. Is this true for all the places you’ve seen so far in Poland, or just what you filmed for this video? Thanks, Elizabeth
We really didn't notice much graffiti in the main area of old town. It is truly a beautiful city. ❤
@@BrianandCarrie Wonderful. Thanks.

I wonder how many people break their foot and fall on their face when the come upon some of those gnomes in 3 feet of snow. Beautiful city.

Next time when you will be back in Poland consider cities like Poznań, Toruń and Malbork Castle (the biggest medieval castle in Europe).
Can't wait to see your next vid! xoxo Me!😘

I love your guys' videos. I just retired myself and have moved to Mexico with a plan to begin full-time travel in a year or two. Hi Guys, Thanks for another great video! What an incredibly beautiful city. I loved the gnomes what a great idea. I am assuming you went from Silesia to Bohemia. Did you visit Cesky Krumlov and what do think of Czech beer?
We did enjoy the Czech beer!! We left Poland last week and landed in Brno, Czech Republic!
Thank you for the tips! We are heading to Turkey after our 90 days, most of which will be in Italy. We will start Milan and travel to Palermo.

Krakow has the largest market square in Europe.
Great video, but you missed Hala Stulecia (near ZOO). Fantastic place!

Looks so nice. Such a pretty square.. How is the language barrier? Can you get along in English? We usually try to learn a few basic words..
It really hasn't been a problem at all. Learning a few keywords is a great idea. Most people that we have encountered know some basic English. We are finding that every place that we traveled to so far.
Come to Poland, 😊we speak English
Sunday in a lot of countries in Europe is a day of rest, Poland included. Most shops/business are forbidden by law to operate on Sundays except on pre-approved, selected Sundays. Thus the reason why the square is not crowded.
Very good to know and just one of the things we love about Europe ❤
Thank you for adding this!!
Cheers!!🍻
Yet again quality content you two. The river pics seem to have a Prague feel to them. Yet the town hall seemed to be more German architecture. Plenty of churches like all European cities. Anything overly notable for this town as opposed to Krakow? I'd like to think that there is more to view than the various gnomes/draves scattered throughout. It is always good to see where you guys are staying. Plenty of people in longer pants Seems a bit cooler. Safe travels.
The two cities are comparable but each unique in it's own way. The weather has been mostly sunny with a few rainy days mixed in. Something that we are used to. 😀
Wrocław was the German city of Breslau until 1945. The Allies redrew the border and gave eastern Germany to Poland.
The city and your video are awesome! May I know that when did you go to there?
Thank you 😊. We were there in late July. Thanks so much for watching, Cheers!!

@@gabrielbakalarz5722 going by history I don’t understand why you wouldn’t.
Love your travels. How do you plan all this? Do you have apps or spreadsheets to organize your European travels??? Thanks so much! Jan

Very nice, Joanna! Thank you for adding this! ❤

@@BrianandCarrie is Cigna global your primary or only form of medical insurance?
For now, yes.
