Well said, I watched him and Mahomes play and Elway definitely has a better arm. Can you imagine how good he would be in today's Wide open, offensive, quarterback/wr safe league. His stats would be rediculous, especially with a great coach. I tell this to people when having the greatest quarterback debate. I start off with being very clear that today's game is very different from when players like Elway and Montana played. The second thing I state is that if John Elway was on the 49ers teams of the 80s and 90s he would easily have 5 or even 6 championships! He still is the highest rated QB coming out of college.
Went to college with him, The receivers used to talk about the “Elway cross”, which was the mark the ball would leave on your body because the tip of a football forms a cross from the seams and if you got a ball in the stomach it would leave a mark. Was entertaining to watch him play right field on the baseball team, best throw I’ve ever seen in person was him throwing a guy out at home plate with a throw that was a line drive from close to 300 feet away
He’s stepping and leaning into almost every throw sure he had a strong arm but cmon now most of these look the opposite of effortless it’s like he was trying to hurt his receivers or something lol

He could have a pretty trash game statistically, but in the 4th quarter with the game on the line, he would win you the ballgame. People forget what kind of player he was because they never saw him and they just go by the numbers. He might only throw 17 or 18 touchdown passes in a season, but 4 or 5 of them were game winners. And none of this footage is sped up, his physical talent was such that he could take over the game, especially in the 4th quarter.

You can count on one hand the number of guys who ever played who could roll to one side, throw across his body, and still get the ball there. Amazing arm talent.
My favorite Elway years 85-88 and 93-98. First batch it was the arm and athletic skills. Second batch he still had an arm but he was mastering the west coast offense. Was so happy that he finally was able to play in an offense that matched his skills.
Play action became a great weapon with Terrel Davis in the backfield. That’s really what he was missing in the 80’s and those brutal Super Bowl losses. Would’ve been a lot different with a good RB in the early years.

This whole highlight tape is nothing but absolute dimes, but the plays I highlighted are straight BBs. He had a absolute ROCKET. I don't believe anyone ever unleashed the ball on a line like Elway. Favre was right up there, but I don't believe Favre's was as pretty or accurate as Elway's. I became a Packer's fan in the early 1990s too, so I know exactly what type of throws Favre could make, but Elway still threw it on a rope better than anyone ever.
Im telling you elway had an arm that can't be compared, only admired if elway was playing in this era he would own alot records and Superbowls due to the fact it's quarterback friendly now He is in a class by himself hands down
No question. Elway would have at least one 5,500 passing yard season in today's game. It goes without saying that Jameis Winston threw for more yards last year than Dan Marino in 1984 (which I still believe is the greatest quarterbacking season in NFL history).
John elway was my favorite quarterback growing up, his arm strength and what he could do with the ball was amazing. I wasn't a huge broncos fan, I had many favorite players, most of all was Walter Payton I was a huge bear fan growing up, in New Jersey close to the meadowlands, so I also would watch a lot of Giants games because I did enjoy watching them, and watching them win. I especially enjoyed LT. But when it comes to quarterback, give me a John elway in any era, and he's a winner. And I remember when Terrell Davis got with the team and that's exactly what John needed, he needed a good running back to take off some the pressure, that John had on himself, he would run the ball he would throw the ball he would do everything. But like I said when TD joined the team, and they had a good running back that's when they won those two super bowls. And I was so happy for the broncos, I rooted for them in both super bowls. Because God knows they were in many super bowls and lost. I believe that was the greatest era of football, but maybe I'm biased the '80s were my time and the early '90s. I watch football today, and the game has changed so much every quarterback starts out in The shotgun position, they turned it into a passing game passing friendly game. You don't see the great running backs, like you did in my day. The running backs like, Eric Dickerson, Bo Jackson, and of course my favorite Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, emmitt Smith you just don't see running backs running the ball 25-30 times a game. Like an Earl Campbell, I had the pleasure of growing up in a era when used to see some real great running backs, and some great quarterbacks like John elway. I just don't enjoy the game as much as I did back then, I guess I'm getting old and a new way of playing I don't care much for, I still watch but I miss the days, of the workhorse running backs. Who complimented the quarterbacks, they've changed the game so much, that pretty soon you won't even be able to hit the quarterback. I guess I'm a dinosaur. Thank you for the good video, it was a little blurry but I enjoyed it thank you again and God bless. PS. Let's not forget Adrian Peterson, now out was a workhorse, and there was many many more that I can't mention here, or it's going to turn into a huge message. I first started watching football in the early 80s ...Elway and L.Taylor got me hooked...Broncos fan ever since . Elway was golden to watch , most of his recievers where just really good , if he only had a J Rice like Montana did in his early carreer.
Looking back after so many years it's a foregone conclusion that Elway, despite my bias, was dangerous. I don't know how other teams were could muster any confidence in playing against him. I still have my "MACH 7" - John Elway/fighter jet poster from back in the day. Other things that come to mind - 'Damn the 80's were blurry.' & 'So long...took so long to get a running game in Denver, & it was right on time too giving John much needed reprieve in his later games.' That duck & pass for a TD @ 8:51 has gotta be my favorite. The angle they showed it on tv though was from behind. It looked almost surreal; here in this one you can actually see Elway dip low enough to avoid being tackled as the guy flies over him & then he pops right up to make a beautiful connection in the end-zone. Amazing.
Could you imagine Elway 6ft3 rocket unlimited range arm with mobility playing in today’s league. Today’s NFL QB top five could thank Elway for doing it first. I know he has the strongest arm of all. He throws 60 yards in the air missiles and completes most of them.

Although I watched him growing up I didn’t realize until just now how lucky us sports fans are now to have all the technology especially all the cameras because watching this you could really tell how much better it showcases these athletes especially a great QB.
Elway's touchdown pass to Vance Johnson in Super Bowl XXI is probably the greatest play in Super Bowl history that nobody remembers. It's a highlight reel play that isn't usually included in the game's highlights.
Well, everybody remembers Doug Williams unloading 4 TD’s in the 2nd quarter. I think a lot of people forget Timmy Smith rushing for like 215yds to seal the deal, I believe it’s still a record.
Nick Saban, after giving it a lot of thought, mentioned John Elway first as one of the greatest quarterbacks. Elway was the first one that came to his mind. He mentioned other great ones, including Dan Marino, later.
Broncos fan since 1977 (I still have a Randy Gradishar jersey)!! I grew up in Toronto and wished the Broncos were drafting three spots higher in the 83 draft. I knew Chris Hinton would be a solid guard or tackle and left it at that. I was stunned when the Broncos acquired Elway for a song shortly after. It was many years of happiness and heartache, but it certainty wasn't boring. I don't know if you can spot one play out of an exceptional career to highlight, but I still get goosebumps when I think of the 3rd and 18 during the drive in Cleveland. The guy slings a twenty yard pass after saving a deflected snap. Seriously, how many guys have the ability to rescue his team from a near disaster to a huge win?
Looks like you got a lot of Elway's most memorable passes, one that I didn't see was at the Vikings where the pass ricochet off a couple of players into McCaffrey's hands and he fell into the end zone for the game winning touchdown. Thanks for putting that together.
You should have seen him throw a baseball. I was fortunate enough to have witnessed that. I was very young, but I still remember it. Decades later, I've never seem anyone throw any ball like that. It wasn't just the throw. It's the way he threw it. The wbole visual was unforgettable. I'm sure they're other guys that can do it, but I haven't seen it.

Toxicc SniperYT Brady???? LMAO! He is great for sure but he doesn’t sniff the strongest arm conversation! Farve, younger Rodgers & Cutler could sling it
I watched these with my dad and grandpa. So many memories. However... The respect that he gets, look how little he gets sacked. They hold back. Never noticed before.
Elway had an absolute rifle for an arm. It was a curse at first, he had to learn to have touch on the ball. He was the closest thing to a modern day QB in the 80's and 90's, but the league was built around the run. Marino was an outlier.
Awesome highlight reel. The NFL films type highlights always disappoint with all the slow motion video stuff. Highlights like these show the real speed that he played the game with.
Every time I see a QB these days do something great and wonder if they're "the best," I get slapped back into reality when I watch an Elway highlight reel. We'll never see his equal.
10:55 is one of the most amazing throws I’ve ever seen - off his back foot with a defender driving into him, can’t step into it at all, and throws a 40-yard laser to the sideline.
Those 30-40 yard frozen ropes are just incredible to watch. His arm strength was legendary. The Bronco receivers used to put the jugs machines to 60 and 70 mph to prepare to catch Elways finger breaking passes.
Dude your Elway and Marino videos are the best. Elway was best ever QB. If I pick my QB to start a team or one drive it's Elway. But I'm a Marino fanatic
Idk I'm a have to go with Vick at just physically/athletically talented QB of all time. But I can suuuuuuper respectfully agree to disagree, because he is a beast
@@ballsballsballs3617Vick was better when he had coaching like he did with Reeves & Reid!! He was more complete with them than he was with other coaches.
Just Imagine Elway stats with a good supporting cast, for years Elway was a one man band in Denver, he had a good team at the end of his career. His stats dont tell the whole story and dont tell how good Elway was. A Laser arm and a clutch player. Withthe skill set he had he would be even bettee in the modern football era.
I didn't watch every minute of this but I watched enough to see that this is passing. What I remember about Elway is that he could run it too. And I came here to see some highlights of him crushing some cornerback
I get that these are ultimate highlights, but what you notice in this compared to much of the modern game is just how absurdly covered a lot of these receivers are. He's throwing into double and triple coverages with incredibly narrow windows because there was so much jamming at the line of scrimmage, etc.
Ask anyone who had the best offensive line in football in the 90s early 2000s and Denver will definitely get a mention…but elway made plays when they didn’t seem possible….my all time favorite QB ….love that he got 2 rings before he retired….
Go Hawks! I hated John Elway as a kid, "Bronco Busters". I just wanted him to go away. He'd beat us and there was nothing we could do about it. The Boz sacked him ONCE and a billionaire bought our franchise to keep it from being the Rams and Raiders. But I watch John Elway's highlights and see Russell Wilson highlights. Elway has a stronger arm, but the pocket mobility is the fricken same. Russ made riskier throws in his earlier career, but now just looks like a carbon copy of Elway. BTW, I seen Jonh Elway play live. The ball coming out of his hands was like a laser beam. It was Terrell Davis's first year. They killed us that game.
Elway I met when I was real little in the 90’s after my Dad took me to see a practice. The players were walking back signing a few autographs. I asked him to sign a football and he said, “I’ll give you two options. I can sign the ball or I can throw it back to you. Then you can say you caught a pass from an NFL QB” so he threw the ball to me, my parents missed the picture..... and I’m out an autograph lol. True story, cool memory but kinda got screwed haha.

No Broncos fan here. Denver resident, he's been retired for 25 years, and I still miss rooting against him every Sunday. Damn, he was great.😊😊😊
Although I watched him growing up I didn’t realize until just now how lucky us sports fans are now to have all the technology especially all the cameras because watching this you could really tell how much better it showcases these athletes especially a great QB.
I remember him being feared as a runner in a pre Vick era. He wasn't easy to tackle. He considered it his opportunity to hit someone, I think.
@@jonmolina948 That was Super Bowl XXII.
As a Eagles fan I remember kids at the park saying
I’m Elway!
Loved that team with the three amigos
And to think John Elway played his whole career without an ACL in his left knee, even makes his accomplishments even more superhuman.
Nick Saban, after giving it a lot of thought, mentioned John Elway first as one of the greatest quarterbacks. Elway was the first one that came to his mind. He mentioned other great ones, including Dan Marino, later.
As an ex-Browns Defensive coach. Saban would know best.
Elway was fantastic in his day
Greatest. Arm. Ever.
Elway the Bo Jackson of QB’s.
John Elway was the most exciting QB of all time
Thats my idol. Elway is the best ive seen
Strongest arm ever and it's not even close!
roguesquatch1 nah dude he’s close but I think it goes to 2001 to 2018 Brady or 1993 to 2009 farve or Rodgers 2008/2018 sadly Rodgers is a game manager now
@@toxiccsniperyt3325 Nope. Watch his highlights. I watched him his entire career. Favre was close though.
Toxicc SniperYT Favres is right there with it, but Elway had a quicker release.
Toxicc SniperYT Brady???? LMAO! He is great for sure but he doesn’t sniff the strongest arm conversation! Farve, younger Rodgers & Cutler could sling it
@@standyourground9973 Another L
I watched these with my dad and grandpa. So many memories.
However... The respect that he gets, look how little he gets sacked. They hold back. Never noticed before.
Thank you Sir Barry McCockiner!
Wtf this guys arm was insane
barry these are actually excellent. you should be cutting film for a network.
It’s like this: I’m a steelers fan but had an ELWAY jersey.
10:55 is one of the most amazing throws I’ve ever seen - off his back foot with a defender driving into him, can’t step into it at all, and throws a 40-yard laser to the sideline.
Just silly
Thank you for this compilation.
Those 30-40 yard frozen ropes are just incredible to watch. His arm strength was legendary. The Bronco receivers used to put the jugs machines to 60 and 70 mph to prepare to catch Elways finger breaking passes.
Let’s go Broncos!!!! Elway the legend my childhood hero
Elway Marino and my guy Montana. Boy was I spoiled as a kid coming up in the 80s. Then Aikman Young and Favre in the 90s. Then Elway again!
Dude your Elway and Marino videos are the best. Elway was best ever QB. If I pick my QB to start a team or one drive it's Elway. But I'm a Marino fanatic
The Goat!
Imagine John Elway in today's pass-happy league. He'd own every record. #1 talent at QB in league history. Not even close.
Idk I'm a have to go with Vick at just physically/athletically talented QB of all time. But I can suuuuuuper respectfully agree to disagree, because he is a beast
Vick?? Arm not nearly as strong as Elway. And didn’t lead 3 average teams to Super Bowls.
@@music_lover2227it’s quarterback. Vick infatuated people due to entertainment but he quite literally won nothing. Elway was a physical freak
@@ballsballsballs3617Vick was better when he had coaching like he did with Reeves & Reid!! He was more complete with them than he was with other coaches.
@music_lover2227 i think Vick threw the prettiest ball and had a friggin cannon. i'd probably have him #3 behind Elways and Marino
Damn he throws the ball like a javelin!
That throw @ 4:08. Wow 😯
He was amazing to watch . . . . the magic !
kind of like watching Patrick Mahomes today.
Same type of excitement and amazement
I didn't watch every minute of this but I watched enough to see that this is passing. What I remember about Elway is that he could run it too. And I came here to see some highlights of him crushing some cornerback
The 1980's and 90's was more fun to watch the NFL. I'm just getting old LOL 😆
I get that these are ultimate highlights, but what you notice in this compared to much of the modern game is just how absurdly covered a lot of these receivers are. He's throwing into double and triple coverages with incredibly narrow windows because there was so much jamming at the line of scrimmage, etc.
Dude shoots laserbeams
Barry PLEASE make an OnlyFans account
I've seen Elway throw lasers in blizzard conditions. By far the strongest arm ever.
Ask anyone who had the best offensive line in football in the 90s early 2000s and Denver will definitely get a mention…but elway made plays when they didn’t seem possible….my all time favorite QB ….love that he got 2 rings before he retired….
Brandon Perna Scene.
@ThatsGoodSports
Elway and Marino was always my favorite qbs. They did the most with the least. Elway and Marino would have 10 rings if they played Brady's career.
He'd throw for 6,000 yards ever year in todays soft ass game.
5:55 55 yards rocket
marino released it quicker w/ amazing accuracy but elway had more rope velocity deep..... to this day, no one has surpassed that nfl duo.
My Childhood: Elway Watson! Touchdown!!
That’s so cool man
Mr Slate I didn’t get a pic of moment or the autograph, so laughing about memory of it. Lighten up
You still met the legend.
As hard as Elway throws the ball, I would have asked for signature, not broken fingers.
Elway sure had a favorite target back then didn’t he? Steve Watson caught friggin everything!
This was the Josh Allen of his time
Phooey, Josh Allen is still just an 'above pedestrian' QB_ no comparison.
Elway had a great arm and could scramble.
That throw at 0:42 is unreal
That throw from 1:17 - 1:20 had some SERIOUS velocity. That had to 60+ mph
66
@@galacticmaster4852 Seriously I haven't even seen Brett Favre throw a pass that hard lol
John Madden @4:17
Not an arm, it's a gun
You put all the great QBs in NFL history through a scouting combine, JOHN ELWAY comes out the top ranked. It might not even be that close.
Bingo!
Best comeback quarterback of all time!!!
Elway da 🐐
This guy was a Chiefs fan worst nightmare.
