The biggest chuckle I've ever gotten from an owner's manual (a true source of jokes and laughter) was for a '80's seven series BMW which a family friend had (he brought it to my attention). There was a whole chapter devoted to how to deal with long trips and a whole subsection telling to to pull off and go through a series of stretching exercise (each explained and pictured) so that you could remain fresh. Add in a poor German accent while reading it was truly funny.
Hey Kennan. South Africa has quite a few BMWs which were only produced and sold here. The most famous examples include: 1) The iconic BMW E30 325is 2) E92 BMW M3 Frozen edition - only 25 were built. The E92 M3 GTS was not sold here, so BMW South Africa developed this car as a substitute.
Regarding rare BMWs, a customer of my mechanic had an L6 years ago. It was a US only 635 with a luxury interior made of buffalo hide, offered for only 1 year.
Kennan is relatable for me. Once had a friend send me a picture with 7 pixels of a car in it and i could tell the model (it was an older SL Mercedes) but i couldn't name most new cars
I've had three old BMWs - a 1990 525i 5 Speed (gone) a 1990 750iL (gone) and, now, a 535i Auto. As far as the steering, there is an adjuster nut to recenter the steering but one can only readjust so long before a new steering box needs to be sourced. Either way, love this e34, and all of 'em, thanks, Kennan! :)
Nice video! As a fellow BMW nerd, I knew about all of these except the M6 CSL. 1995 was a special year for BMW NA. They sold three interesting single-year models: 318ti Club Sport, M3 Lightweight, and 540i M Sport (in the US). I agree that the E34 is probably the best-looking 5 Series of all. And this M540i is very special.
If you want to see really rare and unique BMW's you need to have a look at the South African BMW E30 333i, E23 745i powered by the M1 engine, the E12 530 MLE which is widely considered to be the first M car ever. Sout Africa has had its fair share of unique BMWs for racing homologation. There are more but these are the stand outs.
Great job Keenan. This one strikes my core passion as I have 2 E34s and one is one of the 205 US 540i Sports. I and another friend manage a FB registry group with all these special E34s. One little note- Those US cars were not technically called “MSports” by BMW ever. The package was just that- a package called the sport package and it was a 7,500$ option! But the name , It just became a thing over time, especially now that MSport is splattered all over so many BMWs.
As a big M3 enthusiast I knew about the E46 M3 GTR Straßenversion and have been lusting after them since I first found out about it as a teenager, but it was great learning about all the others mentioned!
We got a short run of '94 E36 M3s with the legit S50b30 euro motor here in Canada. 45 cars, if memory serves. I ran into one of the other 32 M540is at the shop once. So rad.
Hi Kennan, This is a very special one, then, this is not weird or so in terms of usability, you could go everywhere with this an all, then, this is probably one of the golden eras of car manufacturing in terms of quality building. these cars in this time were not only subtle and beautiful but every place, every piece, every knob you touch, buttons, etc, exude quality. Really cool and fantastically made. I wouldn't hesitate to boy one if I could ❤❤
I remember being a kid and watching motorweek when the e34 first debuted. I thought it looked amazing and still do. One of the best looking sedans ever made
New to the Euro game, don’t own any BMW…as of yet. I do have aspirations as any enthusiastic guy would, 98-00 E38 740IL this opens my eyes to new ideas. Your content makes it easy to learn and stay engaged. Not very bright with cars or parts but this teaches me a few things.
I worked at Downtown BMW in Toronto back then and I actually sold one of the M540i cars. 6 speed manual Orient Blue. It was stunning. I actually got to drive it a couple of times.
Another cool thing on the m540i. For the US there was an option to have a factory equipped LSD. I believe this was available in Europe and Canada too but I haven't been able to confirm that. As far as I know only two cars for the US ever got an LSD from the factory. One is with a friend in northern California and I believe the other is in D.C. the last I've checked.
i own an e39, and hearing that the steering in this e34 is vague was surprising: the heavy and dead accurate steering feel on my e39 is one of my favorite qualities about it. seems like BMW used to do a better job at learning from it’s own deficiencies. also, those round headlights were the BEST. it’s the lone style point i envy on the e34 vs my e39.
I wish people would stop telling me what cars I've never heard of... They should put "probably" in the title. Because I've usually heard of them. I dunno, it's a nitpicky thing, but I just hate that headline.
Considering how many people (americans) don't believe you when you show them the e61 M5 touring I think that should have made the list. It's not super rare but it is glorious.
the on center deadness probably has more to do with the e34 having a steering box and not a rack and pinion. even in the 90s that was outdated for a sports car.
Maybe it because I grew up an hour from the BMW building in Munich or because I am a huge BMW nerd, but I have heard of all of these cars. Got to drive and M3 GTR Straße one time.
540i msport was same as the m540i minus the brakes and wheels and sequencing. The msport got US spec m5 brakes and throwing star wheels. But it also got the same edc suspension and m5 steering box and sway bars etc and body kit. the confusion starts when they made msport suspension an option which is different than the mtech ( m540i/msport/m5) suspension. When you get a regular 540i and vin check the options it’s will come up msport suspension which sounds like it’s a real msport but it’s not.
I dunno man, I've heard of all these BMW's before. I guess I'm a bigger BMW nerd than I thought. The E34 chassis 5-series is underrated though, I will say that.
I wish BMW had spent a bit more on premium drivetrain components, rather than cosmetic touches. I owned several from the nineties to about 2015 and there were just too many issues that kept them from being truly fun and reliable to drive. The e90 V8 series had fragile rod bearings, the SMG was always on borrowed time, the older e34's had Nikasil engine coatings that were a time bomb when running US gasoline.
I’ve only watched a few videos of Kennan. Mainly because I came to this channel as a Doug fan very early on. I saw this video and clicked immediately. I knew Kennan speaking about BMW’s is where I would learn the most about him, and his passion. I am now a huge Kennan fan. Also, I think there’s one of these for sale in Vegas right now.
Putting an //M badge on any BMW car - BMW themselves have no constant rule and basically any long term idea what that thing actually means. One time it is reserved for M sport cars, another time it was enough if you ticked a complete M sports packet and some time later it had a different meaning. So if you feel like your car should wear the badge then feel free to put it on the car. If you have an M packet option you can have it. If you have a top range engine you can have it (it says just M, not M3, M4 or whatever) but if you are broke driving a budget car because you can't afford anything better and that M badge is all you can buy for now then get it as well if it makes you happy. Because that is all what counts anyways. I do smile a bit whenever I see something like this but I do not judge and I sure do not feel offended by it.
Keenan is legit a teacher and informer. Add the fact he gets through the ladies like i get through mcdonalds, its no wonder Doug pays him $8 million a year and the use of the bunker shower and washing machine when ever the mood takes. Did they choose the new james bond yet?
Kennan must have a lot of time to research these BMWs now that Emily kicked him out of the house.
Who is Emily?
nah you mean Sandra
You mean Serena

Man Kennan is good at these videos! Great delivery!
It's not delivery, it's DiGiorno.
I'll see myself out.
@AI😂.Overlord.X
Kennan’s ability as a presenter has improved so much. Dude is pretty great at it.
Just looks like a university presentation where he just scraped in a low Credit.

Haha, that's pretty goofy to find in an owners manual!
Thoughtful addition to a driving manual tbh. The good old days
I’m chuckling just thinking ab it haha 😅
Kennan: the BMW connoisseur!
Connaisseur 😉

Überraschung, Überraschung!
Wow, I haven't watched a kennan video since one of his first. Dude has come a LONG way in front of the camera in a short time. Well done, keep it up!!
aw what a great video. please keep these up. they will gain traction for sure.
Kennan is sounding less like Doug like he used to when Doug first introduced him on his channel.
Well done Kennan
Men want to be him and women want to be with him. Kennan, the ultimate man.
Except Emily :(
No mention of the South-African BMWs? The 745i SA with the M1 engine (related)?
Great video though!
One thing I’ll never forget is the flamethrower you could buy from BMW dealers in South Africa
Or the South African exclusive, BMW E92 M3 Frozen edition.....
Or the 333i
eish i was disappointed
@@dhalsim-1Can i get more info on this?

Emily wishes she was a BMW so Kennan would pay attention to her

The biggest surprise of this video was learning Kennan is under 30 years old
Regarding rare BMWs, a customer of my mechanic had an L6 years ago. It was a US only 635 with a luxury interior made of buffalo hide, offered for only 1 year.
That's bull.
I remember seeing those
Cars you’ve never heard of, from the guy who can’t car spot a Ford Maverick. 😂
Only BMWs and Ferrari’s exist in Kennan’s world.
Kennan is relatable for me. Once had a friend send me a picture with 7 pixels of a car in it and i could tell the model (it was an older SL Mercedes) but i couldn't name most new cars

From the first video with Doug to this video, What an improvement from Kennan. It looks like you feel way more comfortable and it's a Great video.
kennan videos absolutely slap, i could listen to this man deep dive on cars all day
Seeing an E39 reminds me of just how far BMW has fallen when it comes to timeless style

Very cool video! Lots of oddball vehicles they experimented with.
Good for you Kennan, this must be a BMW nerd dream for you.
Usually when I watch videos like this I know basically all of the cars but Kennan really pulled out some deep cuts for this.
Great Stuff thanks for the knowledge…

Here I was hoping for obscure BMWs like the BMW-Glas 3000 V8 or something. Instead, it opens with the NFS poster car since Most Wanted.

Kennan and obscure Bavaria, name a better duo. Always wanted a V8 swapped E24, so a V8 E34 is music to my ears

Kennan has definitely fiund his stride. I had my judgment about him, but he's winning!
E30 333i from South African market always overlooked in these Rare BMW vids.
Before you exit, turn off the rear seat map light cause it might drain the battery dead.

Fkn awesome. Never knew this existed.

Thanks for your contents, do your know the E30 333i?
the E28 was a peach on tight bends, tho.. more of an exception than the e60, imo.
so upset the E90 m3 crt didnt stand for cathode ray tube, thats truly the epitome of performance
