All in all, this was arguably the MOST EVENLY MATCHED BOOMBOX CLASSIC I've ever saw, and I can't wait for next year's BoomBox.

DeAndre Noel A new band director, new energy, and arrangements. The 5th wasn’t close. JSU took the win. SU arrangements are a bit on the dry side.

But in a way, this situation reminds me too much of the 2012 BoomBox Classic.
I guess what you're trying to say is the Jukes should put Simmons in as Director of Bands the moment he gets his Masters and hire young people to the SU Band Staff who can arrange for the band and bring some fresh energy to the Jukebox.

DeAndre Noel It doesn’t have to be jukes. Musicians comes from different places and can give a fresh perspective. This year the jukebox loss that aggression. I’m usually looking for SU to hit hard but they are just getting by this season.
Juggernaut04PiNu SU do have some good arrangement and bad ones too. SU is good but they are dry this year. They are barely getting by I’m sorry I know that your beloved SU but even you know they are barely making this year.
I think these 2 bands are the top 2 bands in the swac and top 5 in all of hbcu. I'm JSU all day. I love to see these 2 battle every year. Big ups to both programs and I think they make each other better. I love the boombox classic. My opinion the winners are the fans. The level of growth each year is phenomenal. I won as a fan and I can't wait for next year.

Old head here (AAMU 99).....JSU straight cooked....all the way thru...lol....started with Chicago and kept the momentum from there....seems more bands are movin away from tryin to blow themselves flat and gearing more towards sound quality, tone, good pitch, intonation, technical arrangements...*sidebar*....i almost wish SU would reduce there size to how it was back in the 80’s and 90’s....they were hell on wheels...

One OF THE BEST BATTLES THIS YEAR! 5TH QUARTER IS A TIE!!! But JSU didn't come to play mad props to them. Whewwwwww
The 5th was close. I give a slight nod to SU. The balance is on point. That's the only downside for JSU. They are cleaner this year but the trumpets are still overshadowed somewhat. I liked JSU's song selection better though. I'm guessing JSU has a new arranger? They sound more together than prior years. Truth be told if they had more trumpets I think they would of took it.

Man I wish this new yearly State Fair Showdown, at the Cottonbowl in Dallas, Texas had been SU vs JSU, and not SU vs TxSU. NO BATTLE COMPARES to the SU vs JSU rivalry! @@Super_NoHero Naw couldn't attend this one. I live in Dallas so I was at the BOTB last week against TXSU though. Even though SU not my school I still do my best to support my HBCU's. I don't hate on SU at all because I think they sound good. I just like JSU's sound a little better.
This is the best sounding Jackson State band I have heard in 4 years but they still have to get more balance but it's all in the arrangements, Southern just was too powerful and More balance

I was left wanting more from the Stand. As an avid gospel music fan the arrangement left me expecting more. I did get the just of it though. This battle was better than what I’d expected I’m still don’t see with 5 different set of glasses how anyone could say JSU won this. They were good but just good. #IMO

SU sound has truly improved for the better. Their sound is soo much clearer, cleaner and crisp. I also noticed their sound is much darker. JSU held their own but the Juke song selection was better

Help me understand something...why is a drumline playing instead of the band....do anyone remember back in the day as SU was leaving the stadium JSU...tried to crank and they stopped on the field to respond...JSU could've pulled the same move it was opportunity to....SU wanted more smoke

Cause that wasn’t even that long ago, but people forget cause they just want to hate on SU, they rather come up with excuses on why they left early......the drumline stopped on the field and wanted to battle after 5qtr but didn’t wanna battle SU drum line during the game when SU drumline went on they side to battle, they didn’t get out the stands
I used to wonder why Dr. Greggs marched the same small number year after year. You could tell everybody was top notch. The band was small and CRUSHING!! My favorite jukebox was 99. Still have the SU vs JSU game on tape from that year. They made me want to go to college. It looks like everybody in the band now lol. They are not the underdog anymore and it sucks. I miss seeing that small band crank on everybody. Too much fat

SU with the CLEAR VICTORY...honestly until I hear another band as balanced with synergy and organization as SU, they will always win. You cant deny it...I'm disappointment with this battle. Both sections was terrible up until the end. As 4 JSU..you guys better get it together....last year I put you all right next to SU. Shack back...does these guys have new directors?? Let me know. I've noticed a huge difference in both bands compared to last year and SU is deep AF....look like 2 bands put together...like 50 bones over there.
Remember Ko Su is deep JSU isn’t. Sound quality is literally an unfair battle they have 2x everything JSU has.

Su has power over JSU but that’s not saying much considering they was way bigger in most sections besides tubas so yea su had the power I don’t think JSU was really trying to over power su like in the past. They definitely was trying to test su book cuz song selection on both sides was random asf and I felt like su was following JSU usually it’s the other way around. But every match can’t be won with being loud especially if the other band is clean and playing in pocket but idk

SU won. JSU hardly played during the game, I guess cause their football team was getting killed. After halftime SU's Funk Factory marched over to them and played, War & Thunder didn't respond. The 5th being mostly slow and mid tempo songs went to Southern.
