Hello everybody, I want to clarify the information about this song. It is czech language, Moravian-Slovak dialect. It is a fusion of both languages.Moravian language has many dialects and that is spoken in the Southern Moravia near Slovak border, in the region of folklore, vineyards and beautiful nature. This song is performed by Varmužova cimbálová muzika from Svatobořice-Mistřín, where I also come from.

I know everyone knows this from hostel....but I listen for my Moravian grandmother on her heavenly birthday. To me, it's a beautiful song. Not creepy, not mysterious, just beautiful. What I grew up with, except more polka than this type of music. We all have tradition dress, we were given lessons on dancing traditionally. My family belonged to a czech social club they help found and partially owned. Now that everyone is dead, I feel like I have no home. They were home. So I feel like their homeland is calling me home. Both sides of my family are Moravian (czech) and I don't think I'll feel at home until I get there.

    My son, my son,
    painted flower
you can not get out of my mind
    You can't, You can't, and You won't
Until you my son don’t take /get/marry a “girl” “maid”
    You don’t take /get/marry a girl, and I a boy (male/ man)
Only then one will forget the other
In front of our lil window,
    rosemary greens
    Who will pluck it?
for my pleasure (to cheer me up)
In front of our lil window,
    red blooming the tulip
    Who will pluck them?
My son... went away / left us
    Synečku, synečku,
    malované kvítí,
dyť ty mně nemožeš z mé mysle sejíti. Nemožeš, nemožeš, ani ty nesendeš, pokuď si, synečku, nekerú nevezmeš. Nevezmeš nekerú a já nekerého,
    teprv zapomenem jeden na druhého.
    Před naším okénkem
    rozmarýn zelený;
    kdo ho trhat bude?
    Moje potěšení.
    Před naším okénkem

    kdo ho trhat bude?
    Syneček choďa k nám.

Part 1 - The dialect is Moravian Slovak from Moravian Slovakia. In southern Moravia there is a remnant of the ethnic Slovak population called Moravian Slovaks because they live in the province Moravia. There are 3 main groups of people there. 1. The original inhabitants Slovaks, 2. de-nationalised Slovaks who over the centuries became Czechs, and 3. Czechs who occupied this territory after Slovaks lost their state in early 10th century. The Moravian Slovak dialect is part of the western Slovak.

The origin of the song can be traced to southern Moravia, first published in 1860. It is not Slovak, Wallachian, or Moravian Slovakia (Slovácko) origin, but came from an area which is currently named Hanacké Slovácko. However, this term is invented much later than this song. The area that time was ethnographically part of Hana. It association with southern Slovácko is incorrect, not to mention Slovakia because Slovaks do not have ř in their language.

It is the Valachian dialect of Czech, not Slovak. Also, the harmonies and arrangement are very Valachian. But Slovak is close, right over the border. If Hollywood ever got a hold of Valachian folk music we'd be hearing it in every poignant movie. (Don't worry, they love their guitars and synthesizers too much.)

Part 2 - The song is sung in a dialect and not in an official version of the language. This version of the western Slovak [there are western, central and eastern Slovak variations of the same language. The central Slovak was codified as the literary and official language] does not have an unpronouncable czech letter Ř and Czech 'turns of language'/locutions [zvraty] therefore the claim that the language of the song is "Czech" is grossly incorrect. "Czech language" cannot have a Slovak dialect.

Part 3 - Slovak dialect cannot be Czech language like English dialect cannot be French language or Russian dialect cannot be Chinese. In A.D. 895 in Regensburg Czech leaders asked Germans to attack Slovaks with Czech help and destroy their state called Greater Morava. Morava was the river that run through its territory, that is the reason for the name. If Germans would do this Czechs promised to swear the oath of submission to them. Czechs, Germans and Hungarians attacked and the kingdom fell.

Like ..."my little [dear] son". The English language lacks some forms of expression, particularly those of the emotional states. There really is no comparison between the English and some other language where a word can be transformed or remodeled to express feelings of tenderness and love. The English is severely deficient in the language of love. The crazy feminism was, and still is, the most rampant in the english speaking countries. One reason is women there do not hear tender words of love.

Part 4 -The Greater Morava, for Czechs their greatest enemy, fell and Czechs swore the oath of submission to their new German overlords. Czechs then in an act of ethnic cleansing and mass killing pushed their border east to river Morava and annexed that part of Slovak land. The land on the other side of Morava was occupied by the Hungarians untill 1918. The land that Czechs took is untill now called Moravian Slovakia.
