- Come with me
on a journey beneath the skin
Come with me
on a journey under the skin
We will look together
for the Pan within
Close your eyes
breathe slow we'll begin
Close your eyes
breathe slow and we will begin
To look together
for the Pan within
swing your hips
loose your head, and let it spin
Swing your hips
loose you head, and let it spin
And we will look together
for the Pan within
Close your eyes
breathe slow and we will begin
Close your eyes
breathe slow and we will begin
To look together
for the Pan within
Put your face in my window
breathe a night full of treasures
The wind is delicious
sweet and wild with the promise of pleasure
The stars are alive
and nights like these
Were born to be
sanctified by you and me
Lovers, thieves, fools and pretenders
and all we gotta do is surrender
Come with me
on a journey under the skin
Come with me
on a journey under the skin
And we will look together
for the Pan within
When to be with you
is not a sin
When to be with you, oh just to be with you
is not a sin
We will look together
for the Pan within

I was 18yrs old when this song became my favorite.
I'm 54 now but still listening and will still listen till I die.
We are about the same age, i'm 55 and i was hypnotized when this album came out at 1986. Later the Waterboys came to Israel and we went to see the ahow in Tel aviv. Oh what a show this was.
Same, I am too 54😊
I'm 56 and I feel the same X
Same here ❤
Loved it upon first hearing it on This is the Sea back in 1986. I was 16 and immediately bought their previous albums. I'm also 54 now and still my fave along with Savage Earth Heart, Rags and Pagan Place.
That´s my song since the first day I listened the album, back there in 1985. I´m 54 now. We, Waterboys lovers, have a little Pan inside of us when listening this song. That´s a matter of fact that we are lovers, thieves, fools and pretenders....
100%agree,pan within is special😊
Very deep and powerful❤❤
I m 54 too!
I'll never forget Mike looking into my eyes whilst singing this incredible song, I still get tremors....
Wonderful song! I never understood what Pan is ?

this man is a genius, a poet.
I'm 17 and my mum's just put this on, oh how I'm jealous of the music she got to live with.
I was 17 when I knew this song since my dad told me to listen to The Whole of the Moon so it goes. I am 19 now.
@@nohandle2001 My dad let me listen to Don't bang the drums and wow what a good song! The waterboys are epic!
my daughter (26) says the same😍
We all get to live with it brother. You create your own musical world ;)
you are lucky to have such a mother 😍
An eternal masterpiece, the Waterboys at their best.
Yeah, I agree. It doesn't get better than this. Saw the band twice back in the day... they were fantastic. This is the highlight.
Pan Within. Don't Bang the Drum. Mantras to live by. Timeless. Masterpieces. Thank you Waterboys!
Amazing song...in my opinion it’s a masterpiece .....not everybody can feel the overwhelming emotions you live when you listen this unique song...🙌👏
My favourite
Agree💪
My favourite!
Yes I can... ⚘️
@@gloriavillar3143 Me too.
I was about 16 years old when I heard the album This is the sea for the first time in a high school classmate's car, when he gave me a lift from classes, which we had at night... The trip lasted the first four songs of the album.... and I fell in love with the group, because I thought they were all part of a brilliant sequence... until then, I only knew the one that was the most successful on this album, The Whole of the moon. But I was inspired and involved by the ambient sound that was blasting in the car... When I was later able to buy the album I was sure that almost all the songs were fantastic and that they were composed as a whole. There are few albums like this. The 80s were so good at producing music and yet I can say, without a doubt, that this was one of the best albums of that decade, how is that possible? You have to be very good to be on a list of the best of this already fantastic decade. It was a decade of great music and we didn't know it... but it was lucky that I became an adult listening to the sounds of such bands. We were happy and we didn't know it... Music was involved in our puberty emotions!
The Whole of the moon.
Some of the finest lyrics in rock music ever. Not even Dylan or Springsteen beat this.... I call for a three way tie.
Put your face to my window
Breathe a night full of treasure
The wind is delicious
Sweet and wild with the promise of pleasure
The stars are alive
And nights like these
Were born to be
Sanctified by you and me
Lovers thieves fools and pretenders
And all we gotta do is surrender
I was disappointed when Mick Scott chose to simplify his writing because some people didn't understand it. Genius has a long history of being misunderstood or not recognized. To think something as epic and beautiful as this wasn't fully recognized for it's genius is frankly shocking. Sadly, it's nothing new. WOW. Congrats to all those who made this such a perfect song.
Hmm. What a sad day for you when....
Your beauty is familiar
And your voice is like a key
That opens up my soul
And torches up a fire inside of me
Your coat is made of magic
And around your table angels play
And I will cry when ye go away
Must have crushed you as much as the lyrics of Rags did. Maybe two planets can't exist as you only live on one? :-)
@@johndolan5600 Interesting interpretation of my comment. Gorgeous lyrics you've included here, by the way. I always liked them. I was referring to an interview with Mick when he discussed how he simplified his lyrics when people didn't understand what he was singing about (he specifically mentioned Church Not Made With Hands). I didn't mean to suggest he never wrote great lyrics again, or that simple words can't be beautiful and great, but, this is RUclips. I don't think anyone wants to see a 1000 word analysis. That said, I was thinking more in lines of
Corn Circles
appearing all over the land
Corn Circles
appearing all over the land
Nobody knows where they come from
nobody understands
Corn Circles
mysterious symbols in the fields
Corn Circles
mysterious symbols in the fields
No one knows - are they phony
or maybe are they real?
Or some of the great ideas he had in The New Life that would have been far more polished on This Is The Sea
I've burned my bridges
And I'm free at last
All my chains are
In the past
The new life starts here
(I was trying to get happy
I thought it was hard
Until I found that
In my own back yard
The new life starts here)
The day is wide open
The sky is blue
The world is a miracle
And so are you
The new life starts here
My advice? You can only know how many planets exist and how many you live on when you are thinking about yourself. Imagining where others are is probably not going to be a successful venture.
And all to them/us who has found this song,or,whom this song has found 🌠
Such a great piece that sadly never got the wider recognition that it deserved.
Truly strange that U2 became so huge and this was so perfect and in line with what was getting big. I don't get it.
My favourite Waterboys track . It’s a Masterpiece
It's sublime
I don't know a lot of people that like this type of music. This is one of my favorite songs. Besides this song, I wonder what else we have in common.
Great taste in music

Um refinado gosto musical e acima de tudo, a sorte por podermos ouvir preciosidades como esta e "the return of pan"...

...lovers thieves fools and pretenders.. such melodrama was the life almost 40 yrs ago, gunning thru the dessert highway on the motorcycle this is coming thru earphones in shock & in winter & still i miss u.. 🏴
As a teenager, I listened to this song every single night on my Walkman, to escape.
It's been the rhythm to my life.
Just scattered my precious dog's ashes to this.
Thank you, Mike Scott and crew for this flawless masterpiece. What a joy to my ears. ❤❤❤❤
Love this song so much!!!
Trying to convince a band I’m in to do this as we are already doing Fisherman’s blues- none of them had heard either songs( I’m a Brit living in US now)
So grateful for the music from the Waterboys!❤
Probably one of the best songs nobody's heard!
Doesn't matter what year your watching this.

For years my favorite song ever... tears in my eyes
My parents played them a lot in the early 80's when i was a child. Now 2020 I go get this album and can't believe how brilliant it is. Everyday walking I listen to this song...
Music to listen to while looking at the sea from a green Irish cliff. Very good.
It kind of hurts to feel like you've lived in other times...times full of drunkenness of mutual passion.......this nostalgia! This is one of the songs that provokes this feeling...
The power and Magic of music : i am 18 again..💖💖💖
Same feelings here mate...back in my 20s
This was one of the most mystical songs I ever listened to growing up
'Close your eyes breathe slow and we will begin'. I played this song for my parents the day I left home along with the Whole of the Moon. I think they thought I was putting on some crappy music. I converted them to the Waterboys. Played Fisherman's blues next for my Fisherman Dad. This music is absolutely timeless and the lyrics speak to everyone in a different way. Genius!
Brilliant, melodic, haunting, enigmatic. Simply genius!
I'm intrigued by the imaginative mind of the song writer. Awesome.
This song ....I can listen it endlessly ...so SO beautiful !!!
Aador esta canción. Me trae recuerdos maravillosos.
Poetry and passion. A treasure!
Breaks my heart how Beautiful this song
Love the cover image of this album. Fitting. We ARE the sea. We are not separate. We are one.
Pan was a popular God. Arcadia, home of the gods Hermes and Pan. No Greek ever said Pan died.
The Shepherds of Arcadia, still pay pan's flute. Because Pan is still Alive. RIP Anastasios
One of my all time favourite songs beautifully written and performed by Mike Scott & The Waterboys.
This is the best song I've ever listened to
I can understand why you'd say that. It is a perfect song lyrically, musically and in terms of it's presentation. I was floored the first time I heard it when the LP came out.
A was at the liverpool gig last night ,wat a band ,amazing night ,shame that majority of the world only no whole of the moon ,there missing out on what the boys are really about !!
Close your eyes..breathe slow..and surrender..to this magestic song!
Me vuelve loca,..! No van a haber jamás ,jamás.....
I've been a water boys fan since the 80s and they still as good as ever. Keep on .
Remembered The Waterboys when I was a child in the early eighties through my parents listening to them. Now 2020 It blows my mind how talented they were. How easy Mike seamlessly wrote love songs. The pan within screams it...
I'm wondering if new generation have the pleasure to listen this kind of music...
Heard "The Whole of the Moon" today on the radio. I'm a fan! Stringed instruments accompanied by drumsets and electric guitars just makes me get shivers.
AnnoyingRingto
I miss Those old days..!
I am 18, I have so much pleasure to listen to this and I had every time I heard it during the long past too...(well at least if there can be a long past when you are 18)
They don't make em like this anymore my friend.
this song is the best journey of my life

The best song of this band. Perfection!🙌🏻
Strong case for the best song ever written. Maybe Second Skin by The Chameleons as a very close second. Miss those days…
All my youth is passing in front of my eyes.....Love this song
WHAT A TUNE- Been one of my fave bands for years. My favourite of theirs and I always totally lose myself in it. Pure class, a masterpiece.

Perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again and again.....................
I heard them for the first time in march 1986 when i was in the army. Loved it since.
the sweetness, the melancholy, the poignant scent of the waterboys, late 80´s hitting me back
This is such a masterpiece of a song. From one of the greatest albums ever 'This is the Sea" Incredible writing of Mike on such a young age. Today I bought Paradiso tickets for their Dutch tour next year. Maybe their last.
Come with me on a journey..... The drums are a key element. Wonderful song. Emotional.
This is the best song I've ever listened to
😆 -Thsnks for stealing my comment , that's funny 😄
Close your eyes, all you have to do is surrender...
Saw them live a lot in the late 80's. They lived in Galway so they were always touring Ireland. Love this song. Thanks
quality at its finest
That moment you came in the phasis plateâu... One of my favourite of Waterboys!
One of the best song ever!!
Sigue alucinándome... Esta era y seguirá siendo MI MÚSICA...!!!
My new favorite song...so sweet.
cest parfait!!!!
Essa relíquia arrepia até minha alma. Que perfeição ❤
Come with me on a journey..... The drums are a key element. Wonderful song. Emotional.
“Close your eyes “😊🎶🌹Iconic and amazing band , and song
The beginning of the song just popped up in my head , the memories of the past, this is a very powerful song for our time frame! A very strong typhoon is about to hit us now ,and this song always registers suddenly in my brainwaves in similar wet events in the peak of my life , I don't know why ?
That's unbelievable.
In 2017, I hitchhiked from Glasgow to Portree (on the Isle of Skye). I was listening to the waterboys (because their music seemed to match the scenery).
One night, Scotland was expecting their most turbulent rainstorms in recorded history, and I had to sleep rough behind a church (because there was no room at the hostel).
I wondered whether I would survive the night. Death seemed likely.
But before laying down, I played this song LOUD through my Bluetooth speaker, with the rain beginning to fall, and the wind beginning to blow.
"Close your eyes. Breathe slow & we'll begin".
😍
Powerful musical genius...Can't imagine how brilliant it would have been live. Sound like no others totally original magical...
I'm seeing them in August 😁
Saw them in Galway in the 80s , magical.
I saw them in Birmingham last year, special moment with a friend in memory of my sis, touched my soul xxx
actually this particular song reminds me of Stranglers' Midnight summer dream (1982).... But they are quite original in general.
I saw them several times performing it - always magic!
So many Great Bands , & Musicians Globally. Mike Scott and The Waterboys To Me Are A Band Of Raw Life.
The meaning of life in musical terms for all existence, is this one song. That slightly dragging guitar and mental (literally) violin. Steve Wickham makes this without a doubt. But there is an under current of the wild West. A mid Atlantic drawl, broad landscapes and romantic conclusions.Perfect. Brilliant, Beautiful. Important x
indeed
An amazing song that hypnotizes me and transfers me up to the stars , love you guys, you present Pan's mystical ritual with wonderful lyrics
K
No music affect my feeling deep inside more than this one!In deed;i think this is the best song of ever. Thanks for thisgood sound.
I met Mike Scott a few times in L.A. at his shows... so great.
