Raiders had a top defense after AP took over. Malcom Koonce had 9 sacks in the last 8 games. Drafting Brock Bowers made a lot more sense than drafting Dallas Turner.

"Brock Bowers was the highest rated player on the board, but he went to the Raiders. So I don't like the selection, and it doesn't make sense. They should have gone with Dallas Turner off the edge. I mean, I know their defense was incredible down the stretch last season and it was their offense needed a ton of help but...again, it's the Raiders so I'm going to be negative about their draft." -MKJr

Mel Kiper is fundamentally wrong on the Raiders. We took Edge last year in the 1st...and we don't need another LOTTERY TICKET on the DL. We desperately needed OL and support on offense. They lost a game 3-0 last year. I like adding a QB's best friend...the short TE route.

The Raiders leading TE had 38 rec and 2 TDs Mayer has potential but Bowers had a higher grade on everyones board so the Raiders went BPA it's no mystery it makes perfect sense.

grades at this point are absurd...also suggesting Dallas Turner to Vegas, with Tyree Wilson, Maxx Crosby and newly signed Christian Wilkins already along the front of that Raider line, going BPA - with Penix Jr. off the board, seemed like a good strategy to me. Adams, Mayer, Bowers, Meyers, Tucker - good luck covering that. A good need pick would've been Fuaga for Las Vegas, strong Right Tackle, whould've been great for the offensive line, but they did get Powers-Johnson and Glaze on Day 2, so they invested.

Mel is all sunshine and roses pre draft and then bitter scorned lover post draft lol. Most people regard both the Vikings and Bears drafts as excellent. Many former players and execs regard the number one priority especially when you draft a young highly drafted QB as the O Line. It’s about the future and the long term. Bears O Line is so so and not a ton of depth. If Odunze wasn’t there they probably would have picked Fashanu or their top rated OT. So it’s not exactly a gimme as Mel suggests. It takes discipline.

Per WAS grade - Coleman is a tackle. How good a tackle is an open question, but he's got plenty of athletic ability and long enough arms and his best graded season was at LT in 2022. He had a down year in 2023 when he was moving back and forth from G to T to cover injuries. Per Mel's desire to draft by need instead of by value, remember that WAS has a swing OT in Cornelius Lucas and a RT in Andrew Wylie who both graded out pretty dead average last year. Not great, but not terrible. And they have the cap space to go get someone if they're not confident coming out of mini-camps.

Still think the Bears are going to regret trading Justin Fields instead of that 1st overall. Especially with as desperate as some of these teams seemed for QBs.
Vikings were rumored to have been considering giving up that 17th to move up for JJ (he ended up falling to them). Imagine what they'd of given up for Caleb instead. I'm thinking Justin Jefferson, that 10th, and the 17th could've gotten it done. Maybe even send them back a 2nd or 3rd from the Bears.
Could've ended up with Justin Jefferson, Brock Bowers, Dallas Turner, and Byron Murphy. Much rather try and build out a team this way then just hoping that Caleb becomes Patrick Mahomes.

I think it may have been DT Khristian Boyd (ended up being drafted by the Saints) I'm sure there was other DTs showing their skills as well.

Mel is looking at this draft in isolation, as though the Commanders have to succeed or fail as a franchise this next year. Peters is not looking at it that way. He is playing a longer game where he is unwilling to put future success in jeopardy in order to overpay for an OT. They'll solve the OT another way (admittedly with a Band Aid) and try again next year to get a long term solution there. In the meantime, the team is strengthened by the athletes they are bringing in who were available at the right draft price.

Mel does know Malcom Koonce TORE up the line the last half of the season...and we also signed one of the best D-Lineman in the NFL...and that D-Line in general is and will be a force.... its almost like he actually knows less then the avg fan with internet access. Bowers was the best player available, and potentially could be one of the best offensive players in the entire draft. Im sure Turner will be good, maybe even great.... but again, our line is stacked. And our OC loves to run 2 tight end sets. We got a dawg at LB, and some speedy depth in the defensive backfield....SMH There is a reason the dude has been yelling on TV for 40 plus years and has never actually worked for an NFL team.

I can not believe Fields draft crush Latu was the first defensive player off the board. Enjoy the 3 seasons before he’s forced to retire. Colts gm Mickey Rourke better hope Richardson pans out or he’s gone within 1-2 years.

Mel Kiper mentions the Raiders should have gotten Dallas Turner instead of Bock Bowers saying the need to put pressure on the great QBs in that division ? Question did he see the last Raiders Chief game.; Is he aware they have Malcom Koonce and Christian Wilkins DT ?

It's funny how prior to the draft all of these talking heads were talking about how Brock Bowers is a generational talent, until the Raiders drafted him. Bowers is the best offensive player in this draft other than a QB. He can be lined up all over the field and is a YAC beast. Oh and tell Mel that Malcom Koonce racked up 8 sacks when given the opportunity to play by AP. Crosby, Wilson, and Koonce will be a nightmare for opposing QBs. And when you're playing against KC and Mahomes you need to score points, hence the brilliance in drafting Bowers. Bowers and Jackson Powers-Johnson in rounds one and two gives the Raiders an A grade for this draft alone
