This is so accurate 😂 Some people forget that celebrities are entitled to their privacy and we should all respect that. Celebrities shouldn’t be expected to be ready to take selfies with fans and sign photos all the freaking time whenever they’re out and some people fail to consider that.
I have met many "A List" celebrities & musicians (and worked with quite a few myself, on a few movies I can GUARANTEE 99% of America & Europe have seen REPEATEDLY.) I look back on those experiences fondly, because I think I only have pictures with maybe 2 or 3, despite spending MONTHS around some of them while filming movies on location. I can't tell you enough how imperative it is, that you find a time when the person you want to meet is by themselves, not running into a car, eating dinner, or walking somewhere with purpose. You have to read the room! I've been shocked to come out of a stall in the ladies restroom and see one of the stars from a top 5 TV show, standing at the sink applying her makeup. I politely said hello and then started to touch up my own makeup. This actress told me how much she loved my lipstick and I was a little nervous, so I gave it to her, so she wouldn't forget what it was! I absolutely cringe now thinking of my response "You can have it!" but she loved it so much (as well as the gesture), and started gossiping with me just as a friend would. I never told her how much I loved her show, or even that I knew who she was, although EVERYBODY knows the show and repeats lines from it all the time for its memorable.... let's say....Friend group! 😆 I didn't think to ask for a selfie or her autograph because I didn't want to ruin the nice feeling she got by just being "normal". After working on my first film (first as an extra, then a stand in) I got to work directly with some of the most famous actors on the planet. I found most to be exceptionally kind, and I enjoyed getting to meet their families coming to set to visit. Again, I never asked for anything of them and I think they treated me the way they did because I never showed a sigh of wanting anything more than to be friendly and get to know them "when they were "off", behind the persona that they have to put on in public. I've since gone on to style some singers and bands for shows and met a LOT of musical artists and now, while they don't know what I used to do, I still use that tried and true gesture of talking to them about life, and getting them to relax a bit. They'll oftentimes say "Would you like a picture and autograph?" And I always tell them that I appreciate it, but I am happy just getting a chance to talk with them and make a human connection, instead of a picture. EVERY SINGLE TIME, they end up spending 10-15 minutes more with me one on one, by me saying How much more important it is to me to establish a human connection with them, instead of having something to "post online" to "prove I met them". I walk away with a small secret conversation and memory I may only share 25% of with my closest loved ones, because I want to keep that memory sacred and not share anything they may have told me when they were unguarded, or in a vulnerable time. I've met a couple of them again later, and they INSTANTLY remember and have me stand at the end of the line, so they can talk to me after everyone else has gone by. That's an awesome feeling! They obviously know I never posted anything about the interaction, even as one very famous musician told me in confidence that his also very famous girlfriend dumped him earlier that week! I felt awful for him, having to play to a sold out concert, with a broken heart. 💔 The next time I saw him, he actually shared with me that he worried later I might tell people about it and it would get out earlier than he intended to the media. He told me how much he appreciated it came out a month afterwards, just as he intended it to. It's times like that, that I'm so happy I could restore their faith in humanity, by that simple gesture of not telling anyone but my husband (who I knew wouldn't share a word with anyone!) Yes, I've actually now got a picture, stage worn shirt he took off and threw to me during the concert and other goodies he gave me after we bonded. 💕 I know this is long, but if I can help ANYONE to have a better experience when meeting someone you love and fangirl/fanboy over, then I hope it helps you to go into your experience or meet and greet with a new way of standing out AND creating a memory you'll BOTH enjoy. It's perfectly okay to tell them you enjoy their work, or artistry, but if you think of a few questions about them that gets them to open up a bit, you'll receive the greatest gift by making them feel "seen and heard" for THEMSELVES as a regular stranger and that's EVERYTHING! And she basically went up to millie and wanted to show her stuff and talk about it. But like, the meet and greet was so that everyone could get a photo, a hug and a quick hello. Everyone was literally in line to wait their turn, and millie looked so tired and down that she basically said hello and give the hug to get the pic taken. This girl proceeds to make a whole video ranting how millie disrespected her, didnt even notice the bag and outfit she had spent ages on to make, how it was just a photo and she didnt even thank her and how rude millie was for that. blablablablabla. Like girl, its all fun and games to make stuff but celebs dont always have the time to actually see that, you payed for a pic and a hug nothing more, there is a whole ass line of people wanting to take a picture with her too and you expect millie to just disregard that and pay you more attention than the rest, while she is clearly exhausted. Everyone got angry at her video and called her delulu which she clearly was, she stil defended herself tho she was just immature.
I had a terrible experience meeting my favorite band for a signing and they didn’t even acknowledge my presence. Broke my 14 year old heart because I told them their music helped save my life and they just signed the poster and pushed it over to the next person. Like not a thank you or anything. When it comes to meeting events they need to actually be present because you’re paying to be there.
At least he was polite about it. Celebrities don’t always take pictures with fans. If they say no, then respect their decision. They don’t have to take pictures with you when they’re in public. Fan or not, you have respect a celebrity’s boundaries and their privacy.
