Frank Sinatra isn't 80 here, he's 74. This award was given to him on January 25, 1989. He was born in 1915, and this can't be 1995 unless Lucille Ball came back from the grave 6 years after she died to attend it.
He's just turned 73 here.

What a wonderful tribute. EVERYONE was there. A man, tough, talented and giving. I miss the fact I never got to see him perform in person. He was my favorite . NO ONE could phrase a Lyric the way this man could. He was the Master.
You really did miss something fob, I managed to see him live twice. The first time he was already 65 years old...I acquired the tickets by fluke on the day he was appearing at the Buffalo auditorium. I went home told my wife that he would probably be an embarrassment on the stage by then, but that I had always liked his singing and was glad to have the tickets. Needless to say, he was magnificent, he opened with "I've got you under my skin" and I couldn't believe the power and clarity in his voice. I sat there literally in awe thinking what a fool I had been to doubt talent such as this. I kept telling myself...That's why he's Frank.

Super great piece!!!! Never saw this before. FIRST!!! FRANK IS NOT 80 HERE!!!! Read the comments below. From January 1989. Frank was 73. He would turn 74 on Dec 15 of that year. Frank at 73 was still very much near top form. At 80 he had dementia and a heart condition etc. It's absolutely wonderful to see the other greats still enjoying themselves at an event.. Look around,,, Gregory Peck, John Forsythe, Charliton Heston, Rickles, Lloyd Bridges, Ella still singing. Amazing evening. We may never see people and talent like this come our way again. Greats with decades long careers. Class and dignity with devotion and admiration to a fellow. entertainer.

Clips like this are a cherished reminder of different times not long ago that people can like each other despite political or personal feeling.

Great performer and so many of the old talents are so sadly missed and we are reminded of our mortality that everyone & everything has it's time no matter who no matter what. We can celebrate being a witness & if we are truly lucky being a part of it.
As much as I enjoy seeing this - it’s hard for those of us that cherish this greatest of all generations of entertainers that the majority of them are long gone. Some of them much too soon. To those who love to criticize Sinatra for the aspects of his life that weren’t great - there was more that that man did in one lifetime to leave behind a massively positive impact than most people could have done in several. He cherished his friends and family, he was good to those who helped him when no one would give him the time of day, and for each act of charitable work that we know of - there were ten more than went unpublished. We sure do miss you Francis Albert…

a quick but sad note ,regarding Frank Jr.
as a child little Frank Jr. was very shy.. introverted....and unfortunately did not get the attention from his famous dad that the two girls Nancy and Tina. received ...he grew up devoted to music and became a more than adequate singer and music historian...who performed and gained respect in his field..from other musicians...
he conducted the final 2 years of his dad's shows.....and died at 72 from a heart attack...a non-smoker drinker partier... unlike his dad who outlived him by 10 years and his mom who lived to be over 100.....
it is not easy to be a son of a famous man and certainly trying to find your way as a singer when your father is considered the greatest pop singer in musical history is hardly possible and that was the tragedy for the shy little boy who grew up never to be acknowledged as anyone but the son...of Frank Sinatra....
This is not from 1994, it's actually January 26, 1989. Nice to see Frank and Ella looking good here, however. (Sinatra aged considerably by 1994, notably in his Grammys appearance, and Ella Fitzgerald had her legs amputated below the knee by then and was no longer making public appearances.)
Yeah, they show Lucille Ball alive here, and she died in 1989. So, it's not 1994 or 1995, which is when he actually turned 80. He was born 12/12/1915.

All the money Frank has given will never be known, he was very, very generous.

I think it’s also worth remembering that the funds he donated to the charities of his choice , were given with a genuine heart and not solely to take advantage of the tax breaks - unlike most of the “hollywood” types today , done to support their “image “ . And most of all, he devoted huge amounts of his TIME to raise funds and to raise a billion dollars as he did , took time, hard work , devotion and selflessness. He was the real deal of a man . Thank you for reminding me , all of us , of that . Best wishes.

Sinatra by 80 was suffering from cancer...dementia....had a heart attack..and many other things wrong .....but who wouldn't want to see him or hear him and see Ella...Peck etc.......the world is such a different place now....and none of it good.......
and YES Frank Sinatra.....was the most generous entertainer and raised more money for charity in real terms than any other person in show business history.....
Actually, he appeared in public at his 80th birthday Special in 1995 and sang the last notes of "Theme from NY, NY," so it wasn't until after he retired at 80 that he had all the problems you suggest.

He is serving a long sentence for murder. He took a lie detector test and the NYC police feel the case was solved.

Frank had no problem with people thinking that. It's true! He said, 'okay, guys, that's enough.'" We got it. Nobody knew at the time of this award- 1989, not 1994 as the title shows, nor 1998, as you seem to think- who the assailant was, including Frank. But Frank clearly wanted to give the impression it could have been just another of his hits, and I don't mean songs. That was the joke that went over your head. And frankly, that's not exactly like climbing Mt. Everest.
I thought it was a reference to Rather's attack on Vice President George Bush during the 1988 presidential campaign. Sinatra supported Bush in that election.

Hamilton is better known for his tan than his acting, but he actually is a talented man. His performance as Hank Williams in "You're Cheatin' Heart" (1964) is recommended for anyone who doesn't know why he became a star, but his biggest hit was the very funny (if a bit dated) spoof "Love at First Bite" (1979), which is much better than the later Mel Brooks-Leslie Nielsen take "Dracula Dead and Loving It" (1995).
