- Battery-powered spreaders have come a long way. But can they lift the weight of 7 crushed cars?

Were all of the lifts done on the same battery / charge or was the battery recharged or swapped out?
@@bdb3350 it was all done on one battery and it still had a lot of power left
@@FireDepartmentChronicles
Even though tool and battery technology has come a long way in he last few years that is still impressive.
Be safe brother.
You should do some more videos like this
i could beat u in a fight ez
I'm not sure if this is an advertisement, a review, or just Jason's pure joy at getting to play with his new toy.
All of the above. 😋
Can’t be an ad and a review in my book. Once he takes money his opinion is tainted.
Yes.
@@justins8802 I think that says more about you then anything else
@@Lakita2880 well I said “in my book” so that’s not exactly earth-shattering, but do you think it says about me? I was thinking that it says that I don’t trust paid advertising to be reliable information. I didn’t think that was too controversial.
I'm impressed by the frame on that bottom car. I'm very surprised it held for lifting the 7 cars (including itself) and didn't just bend under that much pressure.
Underrated comment
It's almost like that line on the top of the fourth car is doing a lot of the heavy lifting. I'm not saying that this tool can't lift the weight but I think there may be some movie magic here
it bent after the second car was put on it.
I was thinking the same. I was expecting it just to fold up.
@@chriseverhart6993 yeah, you're right. They shouldn't have put those lines there so that people could see whether or not the jaws could lift that much weight when they geared down. And if the weight shifted and that barely stable pile of cars shifted, I'm sure he could jump out of the way in time. Lol.
Genesis: "We have these new hydraulics and want to know if you want to..."
This guy: "Yes"
Genesis: "...advertise it..."
This guy: "Stop talking, I already said yes!"
Jason: (looks at Fenton)
Fenton:(looks at Jason)
Perfect unison: "GIMME!!"
Well, it certainly is good to know that if I ever _were_ trapped under a whole seven cars, you guys could still get me out to spread me onto my burial pizza.
Seriously underrated comment. 🤣🤣🤣
Trying to convince husband I had a seizure and not reading comments under the covers past midnight. Burial pizza....bahahaha!
Lmao..
Baste and new guineapilled
Burial pizza. 😂😂😂
This feels like it's straight from the Discovery Channel 15 years ago or something. It's giving me vague Mythbuster vibes at any rate. Fun stuff!
Grant would have loved that thing.
Too bad it is gone.
@@luxthesarcastic1027 I wish Grant would have gotten an opportunity to play with a tool like this :c
Jason is like a kid in a candy store. His excitement for this kinda work is almost overwhelming.
“To lift my moms crushing disappointment in me” 😂 a literal hero and a solid RUclipsr, yeah.. real disappointment lol
Maybe she wanted him to go into accounting.
This man seriously needs to get his own TV show, made exactly how he wants it of course
I agree
I'm honestly impressed the chassis of that bottom car could take that, and the spreader didn't just buckle it up 30 inches
As an EMT I feel I can say this... I hope your day is quiet and you don't have to use that.
On the other hand... that looks like so much fun. I hope you have a silent shift that lets yall keep putting out awsome videos!
Bro what the heck you can't say the Q word! Or the S word! 😂
Omg the Q word!
RUUUUUUUUUN!
The audacity! May the Q word and the S word come back to bite you in the A$$!
Q WORD!!!!! NO!!!!!
I hear the full moon will provide enough light for your quiet shift
The Hurst E-draulics we use with Ontario Mine Rescue have a spreading force of 72,800lbs… seeing what that small one did I can’t even begin to guess how many cars we would be lifting.
well at about 3000 pounds per car that be 24 cars completely off the ground, with one side still on the ground I would think you could probably double that number
Hrmmm... Time to start stacking mining trucks.
Cars? You could lift a couple of TANKS with that kind of power!
Most of them (including Genesis) have that spreading force but the true “max spreading force” is much lower. Around 15,000-18,000 lbs to be exact. That 72,000 is at the hinge, not at the tip where it would actually be functional.
@@FireDepartmentChronicles ah classic advertisement, like with wifi routers adding up all the different transfer speeds even though you can only use one network at a time :D
Oh no! Save the Squirrels!
I love the safety rigging on your stack of cars.
Now, try lifting tanks.
because even when youre tearing up old cars and making hilarious youtube vids, you gotta be safe! if those cars fell over and landed on his camera crew, he would have to use those spreaders to rescue them! now thats a great test! bloody, but also bloody great!
@@lairdcummings9092 science to the math on that...lol
@@Atma_Weapon true
All firefighters are subconsciously insane…
While a few…are more open about it. lol
And that’s why we love ‘em so much.
I think its wild that tools like this are able to be cordless nowadays.
No _kidding._
^
Yeah, it's practically handheld!
This is like Mythbusters for Firefighters but the crew ACTUALLY likes each other 😂😂
i feel like a junkyard would be a playground for a stressed-out, destruction-loving, what-if testing person like me... salvage yard owners are missing out on a whole population willing to pay $$$$ to see stuff like this!!
Yes!
safety conserns, goverment and just having to clean up after idiots is an issue about this tho
I suppose they'd need some safety measures, but there's probably a good number of people that would pay $$ to go to town on a car with a sledgehammer when it's on its way to the crusher.
They have these destruction room for people to wreck stuff in Japan
The protection doesn't seem enough though, only a face shield and a glove
It is a thing in many places, just like destroy rooms etc. It is just… all those cars still have value, that old Mercedes‘ in the beginning, would have been parted out several thousands….
Honestly what surprises and impresses me the most is that the spreaders runs on a 28V battery.
The fact that it's battery powered is insane. I've used electric ones back in the day and they were great, but this is insane.
I kept thinking "how long do they take to recharge?"
@@EGRJ There's probably a system to keep them charged on the firetrucks
@@EGRJ They're milwaukee batteries it looks like, m18 HD series, worst case, it's 18v 12Ah battery, with a rapid charger charges in 1 hour. Having 2 or 3 batteries in rotation on a bank of chargers and they're set for continuous duty.
@@EGRJ A spreader doesn't actually perform that much mechanical work (compared to e.g. a decently size water pump). So that should help. I'd also guess that they can tightly match the hydraulic pump torque to the necessary hydraulic pressure which should improve efficiency significantly compared to traditional hydraulic pump which just heat up the hydraulic fluid by pumping it around when less hydraulic power is demanded than provided by the pump.
@@EGRJ about 45 minutes. that's a Milwaukee battery on it.
I feel better knowing all the snacks and condiments are safe and can be rescued no matter what. I can sleep at night now.
But...but...the MAYONNAISE! What will the poor thing do about dressing to go out??!?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Man, this takes me back to all those educational videos when I was younger that were both really high energy and really entertaining! Things like Zaboomafoo, Bill Nye the Science Guy, and Mythbusters.
Mythbusters could have been super, but their science usually was off enough to give me hives. A real shame.
I remember zaboomafoo...
He's having way too much fun with this.
And I'm jealous.
Me too...I wanna play!
agreed, definitely hits the primal "must lift heavy thing" spot in our brains
Safety Squirrel needs to become a thing now.
YES!! Now he needs a helmet and turnout gear....
I finally made the decision to join the volunteer fire fighters. I don’t know exactly how the training goes in the US, but over here in Germany I’ll be on real calls about February next year and in about two years I’ll be a fully trained volunteer fire fighter. Along with many other things, your channel inspired me to do this. Keep it up!
Congratulations and stay safe out there!
Hope everything is going well for you! Cheers!
@@Veldrusara The training plan for 2023 got changed a bit, I'm not jet on active duty. But I will be at the End of March.
@@neptun2810 I'm really happy for you, friend! Glad to hear all is well! ☺ PS: I love astronomy, too!
@@Veldrusara Yea, Astronomy is quite a nice thing to do. Standing outside at some remote place at night, not a single human being for hundreds of meters in any direction, it's cold but no wind, only the quiet electronic noise of your telescope and the camera shutter. The most peacefull experience in the world. Haven't been able to do it for a while, I hope going out to the Eifel mountain range with some friends this summer.
I don't know if the most impressive thing in those videos, is how fun they are, or just how you manage to record them without being constantly called on. :D
I'd like to believe he records off-shift, since he has some days to recover after day-long shifts
All that power just running on a freaking battery? Thats amazing!
His mom's crushing disappointment... that made me crack up
The perfect tool for whenever I find myself in a seven-car vertical pileup
Got to love all that power from tool being powered by a Milwaukee battery
Holy moly... Now I want one of those and I'm not even a firefighter
Same, I have no idea what I'd do with a spreader but like a child watching TV I just want one.
And that, folks, is how advertisement works. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Best kind of tests! Totally seems like something a firefighter would do.
YAY A NEW TOY! LETS PLAY!
I mean.. let's try it out under a controlled scenario. Maybe even get it sponsored.
This makes me a lot more comfortable about our choice to purchase those Genesis tools.
Only 6,000 lbs of maternal disappointment? Rookie numbers.
Firefighter: is this safe?
Other Firefighter: we put 300 ratchet straps on it. It's as safe as it's gonna get.
He is probably one of those guys that arrives at the fire. Throws his gear in the fire. Goes in puts the fire out and then puts his gear on
The best part of the video has to be “spreading” the locked refrigerator…
@Kayyos I think FF Patton was enjoying his new “toy” a little TOO MUCH !! 😂 Thank you for what you do to keep not only the citizens of YOUR community, but other communities safe as well!!! 😊😊
I don’t know what impresses me more, you knowing that’s a Telehandler and not a Forklift or the fact that thing runs off a 20V Milwaukee battery😳
That's why Tim was always wrong: It's not about "moar powah!" - it's all about the torque, baby.
He didn't call it by a brand name either which also made me happy.
@@timothyhessling3299 Huh? Did you miss the shot where he knelt beside it, pointing at it and calling it by the full company-plus-model name and rattled off the specs like a used car salesman?
@@QemeH That's the spreader, I think they're talking about the "forklift" thing at 2:10 lifting cars onto the pile.
@@micahphilson Ooooh... sorry, I did not catch that.
I know that you (and others helping I'm sure) were using All safety precautions (and rightly so!), but I still mentally held my breath each time you were close to the stack of cars!
Glad you and Mr. Squirrel remained safe during the making of this video! 🐿️😌 😊👍❤️
My captain would have a field day with y’all not wearing your turn out gear but great video dudes
I know this whole video is hilarious but holy shxt that is one heccing powerful tool. You're essentially holding the god's power in your hands and it can be deployed almost instantly. I mean, what kind of other tool can open a locked fridge so easily?!
All of this for a 3 minute video, that is dedication.
That is the gleeful laughter of someone thoroughly enjoying their job!
Awesome! This was very entertaining! Would love to see more firefighter equipment featured similar to this :)
It's just an ad. You want more ads.
Yep. Ads for cool, maybe even cutting edge firefighting stuff. Like a sears catalog, its fun to look
@@daminox it’s an ad demonstrating niche emt gear tho, that’s fine by me. It’s not like he’s pushing Dasani(R) SmartWater, nobody’s gonna go shopping for this kinda stuff after watching a vid like this.
@@kingdweeb5065 Yeah I don't mind that this is an ad because it doesn't hurt the entertainment value. I was hooked for the whole video
Your green screens get better and better each day! It really looked like you were there!
Always excited for a new FDC video!
Jason's videos:
- comedy gold reenactments,
- tutorials HOW TO
- warnings HOW NOT TO
- the top 100 of "What is wrong with these people?!?",
- the fire station chronicles, showing why it takes a "crazy" person to do this job,
- just fun gigs that could totally work as advertisment videos,
And all that, perfomed by a guy with an enormous acting talent.
Seriously, how can one NOT love him???
Would love to see more videos like this!! The amazed look my son had watching you was just priceless!!
0:48 I like how he advertises it as if everyone can use every day.
I mean, I love our genesis spreaders and jacking up a semi trailer with them on a freeway crash was neat, but shout-out to that for escape rocker panel for holding up to that kind of stress.
Paid ad? Yes. But done well? Abso-freaking-lutely. Loved it
The mechanic in me needs this
Genesis just made the smartest marketing move ever.. having Jay advertise their spreader. Dang. 👏🏻 👏🏻
Thanks Jason. You provide such wonderful time outs!
I wish we get videos like this from Jason more often, because there’s so much potential for his comedy in more long form videos! I still love the shorts he does though!
I still instinctively went "TRY TO CATCH ME HOWLING AT THE MOOOOON" at the end 😂
I love his laugh. Reminds me the first time I went to GATS (Great American Trucking Show).
I sounded pretty much the same way when I walked in there and saw all the fun little tools for us on our operators....
Thats how you write a commericial for Chief!
Your energy is addictive and your sense of humour is awesome!
Couldn’t stop laughing and “moms crushing disappointment” and “helpless squirrel”
You make every video fascinating, I love this, plus you saved Mr. Squirrel, yay! I love your videos and shorts; all are absolutely hilarious and informative if not educational. Keep on keeping on. Love this channel!!
“We only have two cars left” camera pans to entire scrap yard of cars
So, we have a fireman trapped under a stack of cars.
Get the spreader...
It's with him under there.

This has to be the best commercial for that tool ever made :)
That stuffed squirrel is so cute lol
Genesis: Hey do you want to make a advert for our new Product don´t need to be any fancy, just lift a car and talk about it
Jason: Say no more
I don’t know if this is an ad, but it does give me comfort to know rescuers have this kind of equipment
“The weight of my moms crushing disappointment in me” 😂
I don’t have kids but if I did and any were willing to become first responders I guarantee I would just feel an odd mix of pride in them and doubt in myself because they didn’t get that courage from me ❤️
Very kind of you to say.
I’m hoping Jason’s Mom isn’t really disappointed in him and that he’s joking
Sadly, I know the disappointment my parents felt for my first responder life. It’s truly a shame that they missed out on so much, their choice = their consequences
@@IfYouHaveTo-Ask I am so sorry to hear that. I can’t imagine a more noble profession that should make your parents proud - maybe understandably afraid for your safety but that is not the same as disappointment.
I don’t even understand it except that some parents will just be disappointed if you deviate from their plan for you no matter the choice.
But that’s on them. From the bottom of my heart I am grateful to every single first responder. I had a medical emergency one day while working my “safe” office job. The paramedics/EMTs were so phenomenal, obviously my coworkers and I were all terrified (I also began to feel humiliated as they stabilized me enough to feel cognizant of what was happening I started crying in shame from all the commotion - I will never forget one paramedic telling me “you have nothing to be embarrassed about, I promise you all anyone is thinking is ‘I hope she’s okay that’s all’” - They not only helped me and safely got me to the ER, they did an amazing job keeping everyone else as calm as possible. Will always have such respect for all you do ❤️❤️❤️
Possibly the wisest brand sponsorship on RUclips.
this got me nostalgic for mythbusters, chaos and science together
This guy needs a tv show!
You can tell he's having too much fun with this. Lol.
I’m envious of his child like excitement
Very cool Hobby!
At some point the question becomes "will the car's bottom hold that much weight over that area" rather than "can the spreader lift it".
THIS SO COOL AND EPIC!!! THANKS FOR THE ADRENALINE RUSH!!! WOOOO BUDDY!!! stay safe out there and YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
This guy could make a video of paint drying and it still be hilarious and entertaining 🤣
How much money would we have to gather to make this a RUclips Ad?
I guarantee it would be the least skipped ad ever.
Laughs in adblock.
LETS GO JASON. found you recently love the stuff you put out. love what you do. Keep up the great work!
This was bad ass ! Like gun reviews but with super powerful rescue equipment. 💪🏾
Guys we found it. The only video on RUclips where a red arrow in the thumbnail isn't clickbait
I'm impressed this is battery powered as well!
I’m glad they did this so safely. All the cars are strapped in and held by a crane so Jason doesn’t get smushed.
now I got my answer to this question, what do firefighters do on vacations?
This commercial makes me want one
Keep 'em coming!
The fact that it is running off a BATTERY PACK is beautiful and terrifying and a tribute to every engineer who was like "y'know what? I'll take your bet that a hundred electrically charged kitten farts can lift a stack of cars a squirrel-height"
You sir are living a good life!
Milwaukee should be paying you guys for this. Most the comments I see are about the tool and battery. Super effective marketing lol
"I'm sorry, ma'am. Resources from this station are currently busy..." The station's resources:
Mind blowing how that much power can be converted from that battery. I would love to see more videos like this.
This entire video, just feels like a commercial and i somehow am hocked on it
Ah, but does it have the power to separate the jaws of a hungry firefighter having surprise bbq at the station??? I think NOT! :-)
Itd be one helluva fight, for sure!
I want to see bts or more footage of what was done in the video. :) All and all, love the dedication and humor
I'm so happy that those things are a lot more portable than when I was a kid.
That’s awesome!!!! Should be in every fire truck and toolbox.
I'm sold! I'll take 3!
