It's really amazing how Buddy could play basically any kind of music as in this selection and basically "own" it as if he played those numbers for years...he literally Buddyized every tune he performed on. Nice conversation with Mike as well giving a nod to Blood, Sweat & Tears as well as Chicago and even Simon and Garfunkel. His ear for great music was as sharp as his own unmatched talents (still to this day) and he was always progressive by incorporating fresh ideas throughout his amazing journey which he is still taking us on thanks to you as our tour guide. Thanks Cloudview!
I believe both songs were composed by Vince Trombetta Jr. and were part of the show's music library (for play-ons and commercial breaks). Proving once again, that Buddy could hear it once and play it like he'd been playing it for years.
Wow, thanks for posting this. Buddy is such a mischievous interviewee, isn't he? Such a wicked sense of humour. Great to hear the full versions of his playing with Joe H.
After waiting for years and years, for what I expected to be MANY, classic vintage official release BR videos, I finally gave up and said to myself "If they won't do it, I will have to do everything I can to ensure this man's legacy."
Thank you. I do believe that I, along with Norbert posting audios, and others, have succeeded in this task. In order to properly represent The Drum Wonder there needed to be MANY videos and audios, in different settings and throughout his long career. Now finally we can say that RUclips has him very well represented. A year ago, in my opinion, that was not the case.
9:27 Roger's making an important point that is true for any professional(speaker, musician, athlete...), and Buddy himself was always loose, so it's a shame he didn't add his own thoughts.
cloudview, this comment is directed at your other Buddy-on-Mike-Douglas video, the one where Buddy says bad stuff about country music. i'm not surprised you had to disable the comments because i know how people get. it's too bad though, because it could have been a good discussion. actually i think it was one of those TV discussions that got off track. Buddy played with Charlie Parker, who loved country music, as many Jazz players do. they know from great singing, great tone and great sound, believe me. Buddy was on a soapbox about Jazz musicians not getting respect, and he didn't explain himself. he shouldn't have said those things about all country, and i highly doubt that he's unable to appreciate Hank, Lefty, George, etc. it's ironic that you had to shut down the discussion about a guy supposedly saying hostile things, because people are so hostile about it. thanks for posting these videos, they are great.
I agree with the things you say here. I can't help but wonder if in retrospect, say if Buddy rematched that video in the 1980s when he was older, perhaps he might have regretted some of what he said?? And yes, it could have been a good discussion among YT viewers, but some viewers made comments that were mean-spirited, and even vicious and hateful - towards other viewers who had a different opinion than their own. The things they were writing were MUC H worse than anything Buddy said about Country music.
thanks clouview. what kit is that. it sounds amazing and only using ride and hi hats. guy was amazing his wit was sharp as well thanks again keep them coming.
I never really hear Buddy play these style tunes but like he said: a good musician should be able to play all styles yet still be themselves which is exactly what he did here. I love all the Buddy big band stuff but would have liked to hear him play some progressive rock or just another type of music with a kick ass rock singer or something just because he was so talented and we would probably hear a whole other side to his playing.
Buddy was out of his comfort zone playing this rockish stuff. He was an ass kicken big band jazz drummer. That is what he did most of his life. And that was when he was in in full command .
Buddy was endorsed by Slingerland in 1970, so it's strange he didn't have a set sent here. SLINGERLAND would have been entitled to be upset, for not using them.
Pretty sure that Rogers drum set is Mike Douglas Show drum set...Moby Grape used the same set for their appearance. Buddy said his drum set was on the way to another gig. Great to hear him back on a Rogers set.

You are welcome. Yes, Buddy Buddyized every tune he played! And how great it was.

Absolutely.
Great interview. He played great on such a small kit.

dosanchoas fqqt
This is a treasure! Thank you for preserving and sharing this!
You are welcome!
Even genius needs experience to express their talents and more experience will enable more expression and talent…..
Your channel - treasure and pure enjoyment.
That was my goal!
Buddy always was in 7th heaven while playing, it was all the other time away from it that riled him.
Never seen this one before. If the title is correct, originally broadcast on my 7th birthday. Pretty cool! =D
😊
こんなファンキーなリズムもこなすBuddyさん、やっぱ偉大でしたね~。
I love it 🥁
cloudview747, you're the man, again and again and again.
After waiting for years and years, for what I expected to be MANY, classic vintage official release BR videos, I finally gave up and said to myself "If they won't do it, I will have to do everything I can to ensure this man's legacy."
And you certainly are/have.

That "none we can talk about" comment on the exercise was funny as hell.
a trick: watch series on Flixzone. Been using them for watching all kinds of movies recently.
Superb
Great vid ))))) thanks again cloudview747 !!
Always my pleasure.
can you post the whole thing, commercials and all
Don't have it with commercials, sorry.
What! No commercials!?! Hell, I'm not watching this.
You are funny.
Wow this was fantastic.
Thanks for posting :-D
Very glad you like it.
Buddy is the greatest talk show interviewee of all time, as well as the greatest drummer. He couldn’t play trumpet for shit, though.
9:27 Roger's making an important point that is true for any professional(speaker, musician, athlete...), and Buddy himself was always loose, so it's a shame he didn't add his own thoughts.

great bossa nova...
Effortless grooving on both tunes.
Philadelphia
Does anybody know the names of these tunes?
Buddy was a nice guy with great humor :) (y)
Not really a nice guy!! He could be an asshole at times and very condescending!
Why would he smoke after having heart trouble? He's right about a good drummer being able to play many styles.
First time i see Buddy Rich not playing on a white drum.
thanks clouview. what kit is that. it sounds amazing and only using ride and hi hats. guy was amazing his wit was sharp as well thanks again keep them coming.
My pleasure.
I think the second set is a jazz improvisation off of the Bossa Nova standard “One Note Samba”.
You could be right. 😊
Wow Rogers black onyx with 20, 12, 14 sizes - so different for him
“An erector set !!” He was hilarious !! Beautiful set of drums !!
Who are the musicians in Mike's band?
I know it was Joe Harnell (piano), Vince Trombetta Jr. (Sax & flute), Mike Natale (trumpet) and Roger DeLilo (trombone)

Check BR out with Harry James's band playing Cubano Chant...this is nothing new for him...
Who is the other guest? He makes a lot of sense.
Thanks.
6:10 Roger is correct about being relaxed when you play. Buddy wasn't having any of it..LOL
:-)
Who is the gentleman named Roger in this clip? I'm not sure I'm familiar with him.
who's the other guest?
It's pianist Roger Williams.

When Giants walked the earth
:-)
#Dynasonic
He was really happy with these guys, don't you think?
Yes, but I also think his huge smiles during the second tune are because he felt that song was kind of corny for his taste.
The chart went nowhere; why not just play a standard?
Now I know what was missing from his band all those years, a flutist.
You're a bad boy.
Buddy was out of his comfort zone playing this rockish stuff. He was an ass kicken big band jazz drummer. That is what he did most of his life. And that was when he was in in full command .
Pretty sure he's using his Slingerland snare here, Rogers hated when he did that
hi rob! i'm of different opinion... to me, looks like metal Dynasonic.
drum nerds RULE!!
Buddy was endorsed by Slingerland in 1970, so it's strange he didn't have a set sent here.

Robert Morton Me too!
The second chart also went nowhere; why not play a standard?
Buddy...he's my kind of guy! Let me take you outside and show you what it's like lol seriously BR answered the technical questions
Looks like Buddy was expecting high tide with those high bottom pants, and those White socks.
What a talented creep.
