your children will have the best science fair projects XD
Aiden Bodily Lol TRUE
ikr
Aiden Bodily Grant Thompson's Sons project: Will this explode?
I wish I knew about this when science fair was a thing
This is what I was thinking the whole time!
Next time would you kindly use the Celcius degree alongside Fahrenheit too? We're not only Americans.
Hai Nguyen just x3
Hai Nguyen convert it
didn't they teach you the conversion equation?
°C= °F -32/1.8
+Sir Williams totally convenient
I just finished the Elmer's glue glove King of random video 8-8-20 and then randomly searched dry ice. And then Grant popped up. It has been so long since I've seen one of his videos. Sure do miss him.
RIP Grant. Can't believe it's already been just over a year since we lost you.
I JUST WATCHED THAT VIDEO BEFORE WATCHING THIS!
He didn't die, he's too young!
I wonder how his wife reacted.
Her: where is all our dishes?
Him: in my lab full of liquid nitrogen and dry ice
You should put dry ice into honey or molasses
sweets08816 I'm talking about submerging the ice in honey, then bubbles would float up and pop into vapor
Parker Barandon I think a comment was deleted
yass
Wolvenowl can you microwave dry ice?
Parker Barandon yes yes yes do it
What Would Happened If You Put A Red Hot Knife In liquid nitrogen
Romer Jerome Lemery YES
You would get cold knife
TheGuerrCZ čau
Yes! Put A Hot Knife in Liquid nitrogen
:D
Same thing if you tape a buttered side of toast upwards to the back of a cat and let it fall.
I miss him so much ;-;
But why ? Isn't he alive !?
Your experiments are some of the coolest (no pun intended) and well thought out.....my question is how did you get you wife to agree to use your house as a lab? LOL
Ken
Where do you find a lady that doesn't ruin your hobby and accepts it in US? Have you experimented with Flourine?
Wow that was rude dude
One, rude. Two, not all of us would do that. Three, it was still funny.

wow, this may be the first channel where I actually don't mind the host. Great video, perfect amount of talking, experiments, everything. Thumbs up!
Oh and I rarely subsribe to channels, but I definitely subscribed to yours.
RyGuy yea, this channel is awesome lol
Dry ice in liquid nitrogen appears pretty much the same as dry ice in water, but for an entirely different reason. When it's in water, it's the dry ice vaporizing to form bubbles. When it's in liquid nitrogen, it's the dry ice boiling the liquid nitrogen.
Grant make a video on dry ice in oobleck
that will be cool to see what happens to the dry ice
you should put gummy chicken in to liquid nitrogen
Yes! And then hit it with a sledge hammer! :D
faisal shadman Yeah!!
faisal shadman yaaaasssss
faisal shadman I agree
faisal shadman i so want to see that
What happens if you put gummy chicken into liquid nitrogen
jason walker it'll just get hard (no homo)
jason walker lol
jason walker it gets solid
jason walker it gets hard
Hans Starks I wouldn't be _that_ excited for the video.
I miss this guy.
We already knew it was more dense after you had to basically submerge the entirety of those tongs just to grab the first piece you dropped in there XD
Drop the dry ice in the acid that came from you car battery.
Like if you agree.
You mean like if you want to see sulfuric acid fly everywhere and probably freeze a little.
General Scar Precisely
what if you just douse dry ice in gas?
General Scar uesss
He should
what if you pour molten metal in liquid nitrogen
Baby songwriter you
Lots of vapor and a chunk of solid metal? Depends on the ratio of the two whether the metal crystallizes in a puddle or already when falling in.
I wonder. Why is playing around with these things that always produce similar and predictable results so highly fascinating to so many people? I mean, yeah, go science (I'm a chemist myself), but aren't there more fascinating things than this 19th century experimenting?
The youtube so-called science is still at liquid nitrogen/dry ice level.
bunker931 At least we haven't yet reached zero-point energy. That would be when this place gets overrun by creationists.
The Backyard Scientist did that before, search for molten aluminum vs liquid nitrogen
how to win a bet:
1. take two chunks of dry ice
2. soak one in liquid nitrogen
3. get one pair of gloves for your friend and you to wear
4. make a bet with him/her, saying that if you can smash this piece of dry ice with his/her hands, he/she'll get 5 bucks but if he/she can't, he/she will owe you 5 bucks.
5. give him/her a glove to wear then put the second glove on your hand
6. give your friend the dry ice that wasn't soaked in liquid nitrogen
7. let your friend try to break the ice, when he/she gives up, take the dry ice that was soaked in liquid nitrogen, and shatter it with your hand covered in the glove
8. enjoy your 5 bucks
Thank you. This is an episode I didn't know I needed
Kids in Africa could have eaten that dry ice.
They could've eaten that too.
Toxicmatrix bruh
Toxicmatrix no
Making fun of kids starving to death everyday just to get likes on RUclips.
You seem to have morals.
We don't eat dry ice! We just throw it in the pool to keep the water from boiling.
Because locals know Africa for the heat
When are you going to announce the 7mil winners?
yeah i know im not winning but mabye my friend will
+Atomicsora winners have been announced on Instagram and Facebook. Thank you!
cool
+Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" I asked this last episode :)
Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" what is the Instagram?
im bouta cry i loved this man.. rip
I haven't watch the video yet but I can tell you that cooler in the thumb nail is for broken legs and arms and stuff like that it has a hose that connects to a cast and you put ice water in there and it fills the cast. (He just has a different lid)
pls put dry ice in coco cola pls dude pls make this video or put clay in liquid nitrogen
Yes!!! 😃
The Dark Craft Rises really? What do you thing will happen, Coca Cola is made of water, gas, sugar and other things, it will probably be the same as water.
Ether watch crazy Russian hacker's video. It's pretty cool
pretty awesome huh?
Yusuf Varsani he made a video on that?
Put dry ice in microwave
Sorry I didn't know I posted it twice
Race Flames It will make a huge cloud. It might explode or instantly melt.
Dry ice is unaffected by microwaves because carbon dioxide is a linear molecule with no electrical polarity. The electromagnetic waves given off by the microwave don't really interact with the nonpolar molecule, so nothing happens.
o_o the science
The air is made up mostly of diatomic molecules so same issue. That's why opening your microwave doesn't give you that blast of heat hot air like opening a conventional oven.
1:19 like how he backed up like an explanation was about to happen
Dude you rock. I don't know how I came across your videos but I love them. Keep up the great work. Definitely have a new subscriber.
I'd much rather have you as my Chemistry teacher! You're so cool :)
Tajah Harrison true it would be really fun
Patrick Caoagas
Don't you mean “Physics” teacher? I don't see him doing chemical reactions here. lol
+Water Spray He does chemical reactions in other videos
Tajah Harrison Oh, that's some nice thing to know.
Hey guys, I know a lot of you have been asking for an update on the 7 winners from the 7MIL contest. I'm waiting for 1 more person to confirm, and then I can release the list. I'll be announcing it on Facebook and Instagram, and you'll also find the info updated on the Winner Wall of Fame. Hopefully in the next 24 hours or less: goo.gl/RdGLqH
Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" pls put dry ice in coco cola pls also i already have the knife which u are giving away :P
hi
Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" what would happen if u melted dry ice
Grant Thompson - "The King of Random"
Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" I put my entry on twitter I really hope I won
Rest In Peace my KING OF RANDOM
It was such a shame that he is no longer with us
0:02 is that a Clio as a profile pic? I love them
Could you please use the metric system as well?
I don't understand the American system very well.
And Celsius.
I got metric and Celsius mixed up, because I'm a genius....
Easy fix: Google 109f to c and you'll get an instant conversion
Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" Yes, it is an easy fix, but your content would be more enjoyable for people outside of the US if in future videos you has both.
I don't exactly like having to switch apps to convert when I'm on my phone, because I have to pause the video.
Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" adding both scales in post would produce more international, and better content though...
Each non american would have to spend 5s to check it, multiply it by a few hundred thousands viewers... Think of how much time you could save by just adding the conversion on the video yourself :p
Why don't you use Celsius or Kelvin instead of that old Fahrenheit thing
But isn't he some kind of scientist? Because no one uses Fahrenheit except americans.
I'm not sure if he is actually a scientist. Just a guy who loves to do experiments maybe, idk
Pr0dyTV he should just use both c and f
No, he should definitely stick to C or K
Fahrenheit makes no sense whatsoever
Pr0dyTV Fahrenheit makes perfect sense.
Hey Grant, I thought of something interesting.
So, we know Sulfuric Acid can't eat away glass, but what about glass' form before becoming glass? As in, what would happen if you poured Sulfuric Acid onto sand or rose quartz?
Liquid helium mixed with liquid nitrogen then drop dry ice inside!
Dude... I really WANT your bathroom. That was gorgeous!
Put liquid nitrogen in Coca-Cola.
Zack Hunt I agree
Zack Hunt I think that because the addition of carbon dioxide, it will make the Coca Cola have more fizz and makes it look like boiling.
He said Liguid Nitrogen, not Dry Ice...
c'è pure all'estero questo meme? :p
one thing he should do is also tell us the celsius temperatures too >.>
Why
the spud muffin maker convert it yourself
Just multiply it by 8
i do convert it myself but it gets annoying leaving a video to open google to find out the temp when he could take the 3 seconds to just say and X Celsius
-79C you're welcome
put a koosh ball in liquid nitrogen I think it would be awesome to see if the outside layer and spikes freeze and crumble or stay solid
can you melt dry ice with the solar power magnifying glass (the huge one made from the TV)
Antonis Akamiotakis Melt? No. Because dry ice instantly vapourises, it doesn't turn into a liquid first.
+Chicken Permission I would really like to see that!
No, dry ice would just melt into a gas, melt doesn't always mean "turn into a liquid through warming it up".
Major Mythical Melt does actually mean going from solid to liquid. "Sublimate" is the word for when something goes from solid to gas directly, skipping the liquid state.
Antonis Akamiotakis yeah great idea
Grant is the coolest dad ever.
No kidding! My dad is actually kind of like this too, always wanting to do interesting projects with me, but he is just always so busy.
Well at least ur dad isn't dead 😢
+ZedXFusioNN-X7: Oh, um, I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine how hard that must be.
a kawaii potato
Thank you guys, make sure u guys forgive and spend a lot of time with your parents, they could be here today but maybe not tomorrow, don't make the mistake I made.
after the dry ice has been put in the liquid nitrogen will it make a bigg smoke cloud when you add to water aka your pond
What happens if you soak 100 pounds dry ice in liquid nitrogen then toss that in a tub of boiling water?
What happens if you put mercury in liquid nitrogen?
DesertLemur TO THE TOP!!
Ask CodysLab or taofledermaus
WHY is it called liquid nitrogen if it's more of a gas
Ghost755 Da boss because it's a liquid, but it's constantly evaporating into nitrogen gas because it's so cold.
LevelCrunch yeah I probably should have done that first...
Try and freeze liquid nitrogen into a solid
Rubbux it needs to be under extreme pressure not temp.
Actually, a lack of pressure. Just pump out the pressure and it hardens into ice after the warmer nitrogen boils off.
saul ventura Oh my bad
Rubbux No, you can still freeze nitrogen into a solid, one way to do it is to just put it in a vacuum
He did it anyway.
I just had an idea. that glass u used. I wonder cuz liquid nitrogen is really cold. I wounder if u cool the glass and put say somthing like idk Dr pepper or sonthing. would it freeze or would it be just cold enough to be drinkable
Was dreaming about cars on liquid nitrogen or compressed air but now I will look up if a car on dry ice is an option, it seems easier to handle
I want to try out a cool experiment. What happens when you plug in a toaster and put it in a bathtub full of water then get in? you don't die or anything right
You die. That what happens.
Nice meme.
Highlight Heaven actually, you don't die. by the time you get in the fuse has already blow out
That's why you get in before.
Highlight Heaven What! You are here I like your vids btw
What would happen if you put dry ice in a microwave?
TheSilentGamer it would turn into gas dry ice is just a co2 chunk
It would subliminate really fast and probably damage the machine
TheSilentGamer the two above answers are wrong, since microwaves use the polarization of water molecules in food to excite them causing heat. Since CO2 isnt a polarized molecule, it wouldnt heat up.
Disclaimer: i am not 100% certain about my statement.
Dry ice:Iam very cold
Liquid nitrogen :Hold my coldness.
@@2fpsdoggo ya, did u like it
I love when your video is halfway and appears to be ending but after some seconds you come up again.
Try to leave dry ice outside see if it melt
It doesn't melt it undergoes subduction.
Dry ice doesn't melt. That's why it called "dry" ice. It goes straight from solid to gas or gas to solid, no matter what :)
nglun rmah it won't... liquid dry ice can't exist in earths atmosphere. It will sublimate straight into CO2 gas. If you mean will it reduce size, it happens automatically. But because it is extremely cold, it lasts much longer then real ice.
It doesn't melt, it sublimates.
i wanna see this!
Drop a red hot solid metal ball into a tub of liquid nitrogen
Jack Graybird the liquid nitrogen will evaporate and the ball will cool
hmmm powderized co2 ... i wonder what you could do with that? that's a very large surface area.
a 1lb block of dry ice would take a long time to sublimate. 1lb of powdered dry ice into a swimming pool would be like... instantaneous sublimation. i imagine it would be pretty interesting.
A bathtub filled with the smoke of dry ice looks like a spooky modern bathtub for me
You inspire me! To do stuff like this, I'm 14
Ethan Cortes same. And I'm 13
Ethan Cortes Same here(I am also 14)
I'm 20, and no, you will never do this stuff.
Ethan Cortes lets do it together hit me up on Instagram my name is colton_overton
14 year olds unite! lol
It's crazy to think that dry ice could boil anything.
MysticJhn what?
Not anything in that way, he means that he finds it crazy that something so cold can boil something at all.
the boiling is just the gas from the dry ice coming up through the liquid making it bubble and move around.
I thought when grant trew the dry ice at the tub, His kid would be like
"Mommy Mommy! Daddy froze the tub again"
I would have loved to grow up having him as my father! He is such a cool guy.
What if you put liquid nitrogen in a bottle, then put dry ice in it, and cover the top of the bottle?
Sargent Pugsley nothing. but if you add water to the dry ice bottle...that is called a liquid nitrogen bomb. which is illegal
Chase Thornton I mean, would the, smoke? Idk what the mist thing is called, but would the smoke make it almost impossible to keep the cap down
It would still do the same thing as doing water and dry ice in a bottle. More than likely more dangerous.
Sargent Pugsley it explodes
4nonym0us h4ck3r That's what I thought
2:21
YOU JUST GOT PRANKED
Swab Atholon FILTHY PRANK
Maybe try some different padlocks in liquid nitrogen. Brass, Aluminum, steel, and see which will crack, smash or just dent?
Love the channel BTW!
Rest up brother...
Wife wants romatic bath, guy uses it to throw dry-ice in :)
try mixing liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen
...*facepalm*
I was curious ok jeez
www.quora.com/What-would-happen-if-I-mixed-liquid-oxygen-with-liquid-hydrogen Found this thread for you
AlekkusuFuyu
you get liquid NO
N2O more likely, the rest becomes O2, of course, reactions happen faster with more heat.
I love that this is your job
5:29 nice for a Halloween party
try boiling dry ice. I want to see what happens. but first boil the water then stick dry ice in the boiling water. I'd like to see that.
You need a liquid to boil something and dry ice sublimates directly from a solid to a liquid so you cannot boil dry ice. On the other hand CO2 gas can turn into a liquid under extremely high pressure, but it looks just like water so nothing exciting happens.
Dude, what is your day job? I want to be able to afford a tub like that....
his day job doesnt matter, look at his views and tell me how much you think he makes alone from that + his advertisement videos
MrPs103 RUclips lol
his job IS youtube. He has made 100-200 dollars alone from this video already.
Mastur Yoda and this vid will get in the million views soon enough
Vincent Phillips yup.
hey grand thompson plzzz upload a video on putting 5 big blocks of dry ice in a well
I wonder what would happen if you mix liquid nitrogen or dry ice with stomach acid, I'm not saying eat or drink them, I think there's a. Chemical or acid that reacts the same way as stomach acid :) hope tkor would read this
that's some COOL stuff you got there... *badum tss*
Can you make your own liquid nitrogen
Jianwei Is a potato lol
Plymouth RD he has his own liquid nitrogen generator
ritesh Not true. He buys his liquid nitrogen.
no he doesnt
+Plymouth RD HE DOES watch his video about that specific action
That bathtub is perfect for Halloween. Just add a few webs and graves and that will do the trick!👍🏻
I have always wanted to see this!!!!
Thats one very COOL table ya got there... ;-)
sly5.0gt watch his video on it made about 2 or 3 years ago
(its covered in liquid nitrogen and dry ice, its a "cool" table) ;-)
sly5.0gt oh lol
sir what will happen if you pour molten metal in liquid nitrogen?
itll probably just cool down or explode cause of thermal shock im not sure
Lolrainbowcat not sure!!it will be interesting in the king of random style☺☺☺☺
Majoris beybladers the backyard scientist did that with molten aluminium and dry ice
not sure if he did it with liquid nitrogen
maybe backyard scientist has a video on it, not 100% sure but he tends to do videos like those
Those little kids are getting the best childhood ever...
5:10 Hi kid! Your father is a mad scientist.
You could use also celsius, meters and all the other things that most of the world use.
Thats a great idea, ill get to that right now.
With all the effects you put in your videos, it would be amazing if you just replaced them with celcius values when you mention temperatures :D
SkenonS he can do both
Celsius* i know, english is illogical, i used to spell it that way too
Hey grant i have suggestion for you how about putting hair inside dry ice do make a video on this
Your wife must love all the crazy stuff you do inside the house! 😂 I'd love to hear her reaction lol
imagine how cold SOLID nitrogen would be if it was even possible!
i'm not sure but i think that it is not possible in atmospheric pressure because you would get to absolute zero before getting solid nitrogen
you are sort of correct... check this out /watch?v=FReIs6rQbPM
Eino Louhimo key word being atmospheric pressure. No ones stopping you from going further
Temperature is not related to state. You can have solid nitrogen warmer than liquid one. Anyway if you fix the Pressure in general the solid state is reached for a lower temperature. For Nitrogen it is possible at about 60K
actually it is related to temperature, however what i think you were trying to say is that it isnt entirely dependent on temperature, which is correct. just trying to clarify
What happens if you add foodcoloring to liquid nitrogen?
Hmm if you put the dry ice into the thermos it sinks so wouldn't it do the same if you put it in a glass? And same with the bathtub. It will do the same as it did in the bowl. Repeat experiment but still awesome video
Can you make dry ice soda like taras kul?????
Grant I know you're way smarter than me, but breathing in the carbon dioxide that comes off of vaporizing dry ice might not be the best idea...
It's alright as long as he doesn't do it for too long.
Only danger is oxygen starvation, and he has people there watching him. Not like theyre going to let him die.
Will I know the danger is lack of oxygen 😐
Well if you know, so im sure he knows. You just made your entire comment redundant
Will Actually, breathing a high concentration of carbon dioxide is more dangerous than breathing a high concentration of other non-oxygen gases, due to carbon dioxide poisoning. Basically, breathing too much carbon dioxide not only lessens the concentration of oxygen, but it actually lowers the pH of your blood, making it too acidic. It's not immediately deadly, but it's definitely worse than breathing a similar concentration of, say, argon.
Drop pure sodium into Liquid Nitrogen.
it would be nice to add kelvin temperature pls :) Nice video btw
try making dry ice sculpturs
imagine how cold it has to be for liquid nitrogen to freeze
jason feliciano You can solidify it by increasing the pressure.
+aditya chauhan or by decreasing pressure constantly
Grant where do u buy ur dry ice
Kawaii Sapphire his grocery store sells it
I found some at winco
Kawaii Sapphire you can also buy online but I think it's more expensive online :/
Legos Pieces *of course it costs more to order online wtf, it needs to stay cold during delivery which isnt cheap. and you have to order more of it online in larger amounts. cost to keep a small amount of it cold isn't worth it.*
certain Publix locations sell it
I like how the bath tub is a nice, serene, meditative area, and to then turn it into a scientific lab.
What if you put the super-cooled dry ice chunk into boiling hot water
Mix Burning Hot Oil with Dry ice! Like this for Kingofrandom to see IT!
carbon dioxide poisoning for everyone
FroztByte Gamer doesn't work like that bud
Bobby Joe 90 why doesn't it work that way? dry is frozen co2 right. so when it sublimates it is giving off co2. and in large enough quantities ( like sticking your head in a bath tube full) i would think is dangerous.
you're thinking of carbon monoxide, idiots.
How about putting liquid Mercury and dry ice together in a thing of liquid Nitrogen. will liquid Nitrogen freeze the Mercury or the dry ice?
The boiling point of mercury is a little above -40° if you have enough dry ice it might freeze it. A problem is that mercury is a lot denser than dry ice and the dry ice will float on top :P
Maybe The King of Random could do a colab with codys lab.
Do you mean melting point?
Hjkoo
