I think they were suposed to put the grey pegs to show the rows that had been cleared rather than just where the line had been, then that wouldnt of happened :)
I noticed the same, had a quick glance though the comments as I knew I couldn't be the only one to notice. Glad lots of people picked it up. I was thinking "You missed you lines".
Yeh, other wise i would just take a break everytime i made 3 lines and then convince my opponent that i just made 4 over and over cause im full of cheat.
Steven Larson Same here, I actually had to scroll down in the middle of the video after Ashens did the same to see if anyone had commented about it. Maybe they'll mention it in the video later, but it was driving me insane.
It does - it looks more like an electronic game and the Board James one was just cardboard. "How do you make a board game of Tetris?! That isn't even possible!"
My favourite Larry/Ashens videos are when you two play board games together. It feels so genuine and theres always something so nice about farting around with a board game.
I'm sorry but UserTaken is right with this case as the set pivot point isn't centred it is put to one side (it doesn't pivot at the highest up point for example) this means if you are not checking your turns you have a 50/50 chance but if you played Tetris and were good at it you always check your turns, the same can be applied to s pieces there is no centre to base it off of so it uses a set point.
Larry got a line at 13:05 but didn't add it ... DUN DUN DUN!! Total game changer BUT! Stuart got a line at 14:30 and didn't add it so that evens it out
Oh there's tons more than just this one and the Tetris Tower game. I found one in a type of dollar store called Five Below where everything is $5 or less. It's a puzzle game where you have to fit the pieces into a specific order to complete the puzzle. No idea what it's actually called. I bought it on a whim. I'll see if I can figure out what it's called.
Agreed, and maybe Dan could join in on the fun. They could all eat a disgusting food product and then we could hear the screams of agony while they all puke and we laugh our asses off.
No way, I re-watched the other board game videos you guys did only a couple of days ago! glad to see there's another one at last, have to say Turbo was my favourite purely for the physics defying ice-field!
So there are... TWO Tetris board games! :-O This one from Tomy, and the one Board James showed, from Milton Bradley! You'd think after the first attempt, everyone would realize the impossibility to make a board game of Tetris, but the existence of two of them means someone tried the first one and said: "Oh, this is a good idea, we should have a go at it too!"
The grey pegs are being used wrong. In Tetris when you complete a line it disappears, since they don't disappear on the board, the grey pegs are used to mark where the last line is that you successfully completed. This way you don't ever forget and mistakenly miss one or claim too many.
I remember owning this years ago and playing it quite a fair bit, despite being a bit fiddly. I liked how you both missed a single line, not that it mattered in the final outcome too much!
I think the markers are to mark off how many rows you've already made so you know when you complete the next one. For instance, after the first person got a triple he should've put a marker there because later he finished the 4th row which would've counted as a single but never moved the bar.
This is honestly pretty dam cool, and to be frank.. I would have never thought of this myself,... Huh, that seems likea pretty dam great way to play 2 person tetris, and .. have a stack of graph paper and a 8 sided die, and .. you've got your self a pretty decent game for a bit.
This really could work as a casual, coffee shop board game. Relaxing. Functional. Better then a ton of other 'boring' games that are out there. Of course, I know what I would do for a re-release. Dump all the plastic pieces that so easily get lost, install a touch screen and run with this kind of interface. Install the works into a flat surface-like table and...sell coffee and all the trimmings around it. Call it "Casual Tetris".
Yay! Larry got my comment! I got him at another videos (The Guru Gamers back when he was on the show) and asked for another board game! :D I'll link if If I find the video again.
From what I gather based on the rules I've seen played, Ashens should have moved the bar +1 after placing the piece at 14:30 - am I right? If so, this game is pretty fun looking.
I'm surprised that this is actually a pretty cool, entertaining game. And HOLY FUCK these guys suck at it, I mean they missed their full lines several times.
Oh lord, the only thing I remembered about that was the Captain Pugwash-esque animation. I think Mary, Mungo and Midge came before the Captain and his seamen.
Thanks Ashens for signing my Tetris blocks at Bristol , there is now a hint of "Scrabble" to my "Tetris" game that I feel was badly needed. Although I am slightly limited on the words I can use...

Tetris (Russian: Те́трис, pronounced [ˈtɛtrʲɪs]) is a tile-matching puzzle video game, originally designed and programmed by Russian game designer Alexey Pajitnov. It was released on June 6, 1984, while he was working for the Dorodnicyn Computing Centre of the Academy of Science of the USSR in Moscow. He derived its name from the Greek numerical prefix tetra- (all of the game's pieces contain four segments) and tennis, Pajitnov's favorite sport. Tetris was the first entertainment software to be exported from the USSR to the US, where it was published by Spectrum HoloByte for Commodore 64 and IBM PC. The Tetris game is a popular use of tetrominoes, the four-element special case of polyominoes. Polyominoes have been used in popular puzzles since at least 1907, and the name was given by the mathematician Solomon W. Golomb in 1953. However, even the enumeration of pentominoes is dated to antiquity. The game (or one of its many variants) is available for nearly every video game console and computer operating system, as well as on devices such as graphing calculators, mobile phones, portable media players, PDAs, Network music players and even as an Easter egg on non-media products like oscilloscopes. It has even inspired Tetris serving dishes and been played on the sides of various buildings. While versions of Tetris were sold for a range of 1980s home computer platforms as well as arcades, it was the hugely successful handheld version for the Game Boy launched in 1989 that established the game as one of the most popular ever. Electronic Gaming Monthly's 100th issue had Tetris in first place as "Greatest Game of dsAll Time". In 2007, Tetris came in second place in IGN's "100 Greatest Video Games of All Time". In January 2010, it was announced that the Tetris franchise had sold more than 170 million copies, approximately 70 million physical copies and over 100 million copies for cell phones, making it the best selling paid-downloaded game of all time. On 14 March 2014, The Tetris Company announced a deal to bring Tetris to two of the latest hardware platforms, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, in partnership with Ubisoft (publishing) and SoMa Play (development), to coincide with the franchise's 30th anniversary.
Shouldn't you put the grey pins to mark your new "bottom" when you get a clear? That seems like what they would be useful for. Not putting it next to the line.
I remember playing a tetris board game where it was 4 players and came with a big box of Tetronimoes, You had to play it just like this game but the round ends when someone goes over. Whoever has the best score after the game ends was declared the winner. The game was balanced so that the bottom squares were worth more than those closer to the top IIRC. Also, it was made entirely out of cardboard and was as colorful as the Tengen Tetris game on the NES, each piece having a different color. Oh, and there was no randomizer: first piece you grabbed you HAD to play
At 14:25 Ashen made a line, but he didn't notice and so forgot to advance the border bar. This is why you have to use the PEGS to track the line advancement of each player, not to track the position of the border bar!
I spent 30 minutes of my life watching two grown man play a board game based on a video game. Also, a social justice warrior told me, today, that I needed to spend my free time learning about the problems of people I'm not. I chose Ashens instead.
Say I had a similar thing happen to me today as well! I had a SJW call me a bigot and wants to shove a cactus up my ass for completely misreading my post on Tumblr. And I always chose Ashens :)
The Puyo Puyo music in the beginning made me wonder if you actually knew what Puyo Puyo was at the time. Also *there was a Tetris board game I’m sorry*
Awwww man, I like Klax. :( Pretty interesting take on the Tetris format actually; even with the finite amount of blocks, it seems like a good laugh. The history behind the licensing was interesting too~
There's actually a completely separate tetris board game that I assume is the non illegal licensed version, and if you could believe it its even more chaotic than this one. Basically it came with two cardboard tetris boards and a box of card board tetris pieces. Instead of taking turns or anything logical like that, the rules specifically state that both players are to, without looking, reach into the box of pieces without looking and place them as fast as they are able on there boards, the game is over when both players reach the top or when the pieces are gone. Complete lines are then counted and the player with the most wins. It was soo stupidly chaotic that I still have that game to this day in my closet.
The whole time watching this I couldn't help but think this one looks so much better than the "Tetris 3D" board game, or whatever it was called, that came out a few years back, and then I realise there's a video for that one as a follow-up on Larry's channel!
Looks pretty fun. :) 11:02 I might guess the border bar is always slid back to the peg closer to the current player. This would mean the more lines you complete, the less room your opponent has from then on. The pegs would be to remind you where to slide the border back and forth to. That's how I would probably make it, anyway.
Wow that game brings back memories. We used to have that game in my primary school back in the early 90's. We'd get to play it if it was raining outside during breaks.
At 13:07, Larry filled a row but didn't move the bar. Then again, Ashens did the same at 14:34, so it cancels out.
Set my OCD right off lol
@@MudSluggerBP same here lol
I think they were suposed to put the grey pegs to show the rows that had been cleared rather than just where the line had been, then that wouldnt of happened :)
@@redladybirdmay7611 that’s what I was thinking.

j o cool Such a British insult.
i read that quickly and thought it said "cool insult bitch" and i was thoroughly confused
super smack talk
j o cool and that was after ashen forgot to claim a single line, as well (line 4)
I like when these 2 team up, they have good chemistry. Larry is pretty funny and plays off of Ashens well.
Thanks dude!!! Did you check out the Tetris Tower 3D video too?
The same thing goes for when you and Nick are in the same video together. Also what is your favourite Gamecube game?
Fancy seeing you here!

"An excellent board game"
An excellent board game?
No, the fact Dan was not used, but instead it was Larry! A not so excellent video!
🍔🍕🍕🍕👌
BuzwellLP Stuart is Ashens name.
***** Oh my!
"That's not what Schizophrenia is, Larry. Don't get me started!" You better not. Bastard's literally got a doctor's degree in psychology.
I'm laughing way too hard at the coincidence of Ashens using Puyo Puyo music for an intro to a Tetris video.
Bet you can't guess the music we used for the Tetris Tower video :D
*****
Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine wasn't it?
Mellow Gaming
Nope, but it is a Mega Drive/Genesis game!
Well now I'm gonna have to go scouring mega drive music videos on the youtubes aren't I?
I mean, I could sleep... but priorities and all that.
*****
I'm stumped.
I just think having Puyo in this video is too good considering there's Puyo Puyo Tetris =w=
i think the pegs are not to show your farthest push but to mark your farthest complete line to help keep track
I would use the little gray pegs to instead keep track of how many lines I already cleared.
This sounds like a much better use.
thats the way to play.
Yeh, other wise i would just take a break everytime i made 3 lines and then convince my opponent that i just made 4 over and over cause im full of cheat.
Dirty dirty cheat.

I'm a little late to the party, and haven't finished the video yet, but at 13:17 Larry made a line and forgot to advance the bar.
Steven Larson And ashens got one at 14:29

Gonna use that.
I finished watching the video and realized I spent 26 minutes of my life watching 2 grown men play a Tetris Board Game.
Same here mate. What am I doing with my life.😮
OMG i need to go outside now
That intro cracked me up, you two together are hilarious

I even heard Puyo Pop music at the first few seconds of the video.
+Ben Walker i think it was from puyo puyo & tetris
I agree
NextGenVixen Puyo Puyo is the best game
Ashens completed a row AND DIDN'T MOVE THE BAR >:(

Ashens should of won at the 19 mi ute mark instead of the 20
+Riley Matchett So did Larry.
+Riley Matchett WHO ARE THESE AMATEURS!?
+Riley Matchett They both completed a row and didn't move the bar... so really it wouldn't have mattered
This Tetris board game looks better than what Board James covered.
Cecil Taylor
Yeah i know right
It does - it looks more like an electronic game and the Board James one was just cardboard.
"How do you make a board game of Tetris?! That isn't even possible!"

My favourite Larry/Ashens videos are when you two play board games together. It feels so genuine and theres always something so nice about farting around with a board game.
around 10:30 ish, no, that would be perfectly legal, because in actual Tetris, if you are skilled enough you can turn it last second to fit in!
But you can't with the long block. You can really only do t spins and l spins actually.
well, yes. but with the shape they showed, you could do it.
UserTaken
They showed the long block.
UserTaken you actually cant because if you try to last second fit it in then it will go up to the top of the hole you try to fit it in

+ChickenPika I'm not even joking but the moment I started reading this it said it in the video!
***** Same thing as me?
I found your channel because of the Pac Man board game, I stayed to watch you eat old food!

I'm sorry Larry I have not but I will check it out presently!

Larry got a line at 13:05 but didn't add it ... DUN DUN DUN!! Total game changer BUT! Stuart got a line at 14:30 and didn't add it so that evens it out
We had to totally scrap our Frogger board game video we did a few years ago as we messed the rules up so much!!!
I noticed that to. Got a bit annoyed at that. At least I was at ease of mind as it evened out in the end.
Mac Sick Yeah i thought they did it wrong too, would of helped with the scoring better.
Cythil I was exactly the same! :D
It would not have made a difference because one would move forwards then it would have been moved back
Man you guys are so funny together, subbed to Larry as well now!
Ashens and Guru Larry are the best duo on RUclips, no question.
YEAH FUCK SMOSH
Thanks Ashens and Guru Larry for the entertaining video! I didn't even know that there was a Tetris board game.
There's more than one, the other is on my channel :D

which side is he?
Well they somehow forgot that they were making lines and not moving the bar when it needed to be moved, they BOTH did it right after they got their 3.
why does the Nintendo-licensed game have the triforce in the E?
The Stitch XD I just noticed that
because they have to advertise their games to the world.
The Stitch it's the kind of font that does that

Great video and a really cool board game. Loved the tower game on Larry's channel too. Got to love these 2 teaming up for a vid
A new near half-hour review from my favorite British cynic? Stuart, you spoil us.
I'm your favorite cynic? I thought I was normally pretty jolly!

He really needs to do a house tour of all the stuff he's covered, he rarely bins any of it!

Lovely thing about Dr. Ashens: He lives in the city right next to my own. In fact, I'll soon be moving to Norwich myself.
They marketed it through Tomy, a company that was probably going down anyway: the tactic is as old as the book.
did anyone notice larry forgot to move the bar on his 4th line?
ashens did the same thing....
Antinull Yep, they both did, so it evened out.
Those cheaters!!~!! HACKS!!! HACKS!~!!!!

Whoever has the best score after the game ends was declared the winner. The game was balanced so that the bottom squares were worth more than those closer to the top IIRC. Also, it was made entirely out of cardboard and was as colorful as the Tengen Tetris game on the NES, each piece having a different color. Oh, and there was no randomizer: first piece you grabbed you HAD to play
tet-RICE tet-RICE r u serios is pronounced tet-RIS!!!
SansyPansy I would expect the skele king of Comedy to get the joke
SansyPansy you're a moron.
The legendary bag of trash we all know and love didn't get the joke. What has this world come to.
If you weren't a complete moron, this comment wouldn't have happened. Also, it would be pronounced "tet-tris."
Include him in more of your videos! I was laughing at your hilarious conversations.
Me made a line at 13:00 but didn't move the gate!
And in watching them play on, it would in fact have made a difference in the game. TETRIS FAIL
***** Ah, you're right!
Good choice :)

Larry! Thank god you survived the fire.
The Puyo Puyo music in the beginning made me wonder if you actually knew what Puyo Puyo was at the time. Also *there was a Tetris board game I’m sorry*
Awwww man, I like Klax. :(
Pretty interesting take on the Tetris format actually; even with the finite amount of blocks, it seems like a good laugh.
I like the touch with the Puyo Puyo music at the beginning of the video. A fitting reference, considering how similar the games are.
