I bought a Mo40 custom last year and have done two section hikes of the Appalachian Trail for a total of 82 miles. This pack performed excellently, the right size for three day hikes, which is my time limit right now. Mine is white, blue and orange accent. Did a quick little unboxing on my channel if you're curious what it looks like.
Hello mate. Thanks for watching and commenting. Your packs looks very nice indeed. Good choice of colour scheme. Glad to hear you're enjoying it. They are great packs.
Thanks very much Brad. Yeah it's difficult when you sit between the two sizes. Might be worth dropping Atom Packs a message. They are very helpful. If you are getting one of the ready made packs, you could always try the large and if that doesn't work for you, switch the medium. Yeah, the DCF bags are from Wild Sky Gear: www.wildskygear.co.uk/ - I highly recommend them. Thanks so much for watching for watching and commenting.
Thanks mate. Glad it helped you out. You won't be sorry buying one. They are very hard to come by it seems at the moment. I am actually thinking of selling mine, not because I don't like it, but it just doesn't fit me as comfortably as I'd like. I think that's the problem of being in-between sizes. 🤷
You're lucky to get one! I Tried to buy one of these today. They where released at 9AM and by 9:04 they where sold out (medium torso) as it was processing my payment. Bit bummed as I wanna go hiking for the first time in 2 weeks but need a pack and they only restock every 4 weeks. Im now thinking of buying a cheap 3FUL Qidian Pro Backpack so I can get out there, and maybe order a custom Atompacks so I at least get in the queue (although its a 12 week wait and we'll be at end of summer then!). I wish they would have better availability.

Hey, thanks Matt, glad you enjoyed it. I measure between a 32-33 inch weight. I went for the medium hip belt, but did try the small to start off with, because I was a bit slimmer then. However I found it was too small, so went up to the medium, which was about right for me. The nice thing is that the hip belt is interchangeable, so you can always swap it out if you need too. Personally I would go larger if you are in between sizes. I hope that help mates.
Nice informative video. I also have the Atom Mo 50. I agree it's a great pack but has a few cons. I'm not sure about the Y straps and buckles, they don't look that strong though haven't had an issue as yet. Totally agree with fruit about the waist belt pouches, too far back. I have to say that I do like the other features but i only carry a max of 10kg. I would suggest that you review your kit as it did seem a little overkill and heavy. You don't need to take loads of food and snacks to eat on route. Equally I'd also reduce the admount of clothes you take, you'd be amazed as to what weight you could get your base weight down to, mine is around 6kg. All the best 👍
Hey Mark, thanks so much for the nice comment and thanks for commenting. Yeah, I've had the Y strap buckles break on me a couple of times. I ended up buying something a little more studier. And although I do like the hip belt pockets for their size, the placement is a tad annoying. Re the load, yeah I have managed to reduce my load a bit since the review, however surprisingly it was actually quite cold that weekend. It was the middle of April, so whilst nice and sunny in the day, the temperature did drop to about 4 degrees at night, so extra clothing was needed for camp. I do have a bad habit of taking too many snacks though. I also did want to show how the pack handled with a higher load in. For me I found this pack carried well with a load of about 13kg, as soon as it started to get into the 14-15kg range, it was a tad uncomfortable for me. I actually ended up selling it and am awaiting a Waymark Embr to be made for me. So I'll do a review of that one I've used it for a bit. I also have a comparison video coming out shortly of the Atom Packs Mo vs the Durston Kakwa. Thanks again for watching.

However I do find the Exped 45 Lightning more comfortable at slightly higher loads. I do prefer the features of the Atom Pack and if I was carrying weight of 13kg or lower, I would opt for that pack. Great video and really well-made! 👍🏻Concerning your shoulder pain it seems to me as if the pack's back length might be a bit too short for you though. The load lifter should be in a 45° degree ankle to the straps when tightened. Yours might be only 35-40° in the video's perspective I would assume. 🤔
Hey Igraine. Thanks so much for the compliment, it means a lot. I'm glad you enjoyed it. So, regarding the load lifters. Hi, I have just tried Mo 50, L size. I have the same problem with torso size, I'm inbetween M/L with my torso around 19.5 so I chose L size. But it seems that with 10kg weight, the pack's shoulder straps do not fit over my shoulders tightly with the lumber part being quite low. I thought M size would be a better fit but you just confirmed the opposite. Would you suggest to stay with L size? Do you still use the pack since you mentioned the shoulders pain? Thx for advise
@@martinvnencak5332 Hey Martin. Yeah, it's a difficult one. It might be worth contacting Atom Packs and asking if you could try the Medium instead. I think they have another drop coming soon. Their support is really good and at least then you can compare the two. I have actually sold mine because it just wasn't comfortable at higher loads. Was gutted as it's a great pack, but just didn't fit well for me. I hope that helps.
My torso is around 50-51cm. I first tried the medium torso because I was struggling to take a measurement on myself, but that was a tad too small. I then went for the large torso. The large was the better size for sure.
A great review - my only comment reflects your comment as well - the hip belt pockets are too far behind and I find them a challenge to use. I keep dog treats in one of mine and I cannot get to them. Besides that I am relatively content. I’ve also had to add an extra strap to secure my walking poles.
Thanks so much Chris, glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, it's a shame that the hip belt pockets aren't a bit easier to reach. It's not a massive issues, just a little annoying. Interesting you added an extra strap for the hiking poles, I'm still playing about with that myself.
I just use a piece of shock cord (bungee) with a cord lock. I added it as a quick fix for security of the poles but it’s still there and works well for me.
I'm 5 foot 10 inches, but have quite a large torso and smaller legs, so that might not be the best reference for you. If I was you I'd get a torso measurement to be sure you get the right size.

How long are you and what size did you buy?
My torso is around 50-51cm. I first tried the medium torso because I was struggling to take a measurement on myself, but that was a tad too small. I then went for the large torso. The large was the better size for sure.
Thanks a lot for a very nice video
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed it.
Good review mate and well presented
Thanks mate. I'm not entirely happy with it, but it is my first stab. Hopefully I'll get better. 😬
How tall are you? Gives a possible guide for M / L size etc?
I'm 5 foot 10 inches, but have quite a large torso and smaller legs, so that might not be the best reference for you. If I was you I'd get a torso measurement to be sure you get the right size.
@@trickofthetrail I’m 5’11 but live in SKorea. I hope to visit ATOM Packs in Keswick to check out Mo / Atom + 50 litres etc. planning on doing Colorado Trail within a few years if I can persuade my wife and teenage son to go and PCT upon retirement !?
@@tiger2too18 Ah very nice, I would love to do something like the CT or the PCT. You will have an amazing time I'm sure.
Yes, if you can I would recommend popping into Keswick and get yourself measured for a pack. That way they can tailor the fit just for you. 👍
Why not ULA instead?
ULA do some great looking backpacks which I'd love to investigate one day. Being made in the UK, Atom Packs is much more affordable for us Brits and it's also great to support a homemade brand.
Thanks for watching and commenting mate.
That bottom pocket might get torn up over time
Yeah, will be interesting to see how that wears. One problem with that bottom pocket, is that any food you stash in there, does tend to get squished.
Thanks for watching and commenting mate.
