The Germans were defeated by the Russian winter where the temperature typically goes to 50 below zero. The Germans didn't have the clothing and equipment to handle those temperatures so many German soldiers died from the cold temperatures. All of the WW2 veterans, both American and British, always acknowledged that the Russian winter defeated Germany.
