An old friend, Harry Dolan, from here in Lafayette IN, worked on 765 in the late 1960's and early 1970's, when the volunteer crew was restoring her for service again. His descriptions of the hard physical work of refluing her boiler stick with me still. Harry died suddenly of a massive heart attack in the early 1970's, before 765 was ready to roll again. I still think of Harry every time I view one of these videos. Another friend from 50 yrs ago comes to mind as well, Anthony "Tony" Koester, who was an early booster of interest in the Nickel Plate Road when he was a student at Purdue University, and a surveyor here in Lafayette--later to become the long time editor of Railroad Model Craftsman Magazine--an absolute NKP fanatic.
I was engineer both days from Peru to Lafayette and back, my wife was the Conductor. Very very hot in the cab but worth it. Hope N.S. keeps the steam program
