  • I visit the ancient Roman ruins of Pompeii as a day trip from Naples, Italy. An incredible two thousand year old town, which was destroyed by a devastating volcanic eruption from the nearby Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD.

Pompeii is one of my favourite experiences, the setting with Vesuvius standing imposing in the background is just stunning 🌋🏟 The colosseum inside Pompeii is impressive & what an experience it must’ve been for Pink Floyd to perform there 👌🏼

Jason, are you still in the area? You can't miss the island of Procida (about 40 minutes from Naples by ferry). Neither posh like Capri, nor touristy like Ischia, it's an authentic, hidden gem in the bay of Naples.

Ticket for Pompeii is 16€ but if you go to just to Oplontis Villa and Boscoreale Site ticket costs7€ only.
If you decide to visit all 3 sites together, Pompeii, Oplontis and Boscoreale ticket costs only 18€ and it is valid for 3 days to let you have chance of visiting all 3 sites. This latter option is a real bargain if you can schedule well your visits and you have enough time.

Hi! Im in Italy Now..well today our last day...but we was in Pompeii 2 days ago...you are right its a sombre place...I tried to focus on how they mustve seen clouds and rumbles coming out of that live volcano to this very day and they have to monitor it...its kind of scary to think...maybe in my lifetime, will it erupt again and encase pompeii back into its dormant state again! ....one part where there is silence is when people see the bodies. Theres always a curiosity with death , but how these passed away is completely different..to see their last pose......the items they found with them. The empty homes..shops..mosaics..you cannot help but be drawn to such an historic place.

Ercolano, another archeological site next to Pompei, though much smaller, it is better for a reason: the pyroclastic flow was much weaker and the houses managed to preserve the woodden structures, which foxilised, and all the second floors, while in Pompei they got burned and destroyed. So you can even have a better idea of the houses in the first century a.d. in the roman empire
