Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, and The Edge embodies that like no other guitar player. A new pet cat... What an adorable story to share - thank you 😊 We have a similar story, only our cat is a she and she showed up about 3,5 years ago at the age of about 8 months. Our daughter decided to call her Klara. Thanks for yet another insightful lesson by one of my all time favorite bands (at least their "old" stuff until Pop)!
Hi Ryan nice tutorial, can I just add a couple of things, Edges' signature delay is dotted 8th and then he uses either a 16th an 8th or a 1/4 note, I like your ending, but to be true to Edge he plays D - Dsus2 - D - Dsus4 .........I love the term whooshie swooshies 😅🤣😂
At first I was nah...but when the pedals came in I was there's the Edge!, thanks for this one Ryan and maybe one day I'll be as good as you too!...see what I did there!?😉
I don't even like U2 but you got me with the kitten, am now a supporter of the cause! Plus your videos are really helping my guitar so it's the least I could do.
It’s the basic idea and rather true to the original recording. On live versions, his parts are a little more involved, including chiming an octave higher on the first two strings after the middle 8. When the song is at peak intensity, he chimes those strings and gets a piercing sound that’s balanced out by the vocals. He also plays the repeated 2-3 notes during the choruses on strings 3 and 1, skipping the B string. Sometimes I don’t know the logic behind his decisions, but he tends to do everything differently than how I’m inclined to. And then again, he’s also a famous, multi-millionaire guitar player and I’m not. So, these aren’t hard and fast rules.
The Edge can play trickier stuff. He chooses not to. His genius is in being able to imagine new sounds and use his effects to create that sound. If it was easy more people would do it.
@@touringbandwell said. I think the Edge is a punk rocker in some ways. He really simplified composition and used the essential elements to make a great song. He was a master at harmonizing but not over complicating it. He made it look very easy but he is actually a phenomenal player. Watch him cover some Who songs. Or listen to In a Little While. Just very good feel and dynamics. He is awesome.
@Britton0932 Your pronouncements echo equal truth to that of the linguistic tapestry of our esteemed English tongue. For indeed, Hemingway, that misguided scribbler, looms large, his bastardized style a pox upon the very fabric of our noble language. Where Faulkner, a bard of unparalleled brilliance, wielded the English language like a maestro, Hemingway wielded it like a butcher. There exists but one path, one correct way to speak, write, and read our English language. And so “The Edge” with his unschooled and unprincipled interpretations of the mighty Guitar. Who could embrace such simplistic dissonance that which is only worthy of condemnation and lamentation. Give me color! Give me depth! Give me life! Alas, “The Edge” is but a rose trying to bloom in dust.
Would you find it helpful to have my personal tabs/notes for the songs I teach?? www.patreon.com/RyanLendt
I didn't think the video could be any better until you introduced us to Jarvis. What a beautiful Tabby.
Great explanation and great sound. Two delays. I never knew. Thank you for taking in and saving Jarvis
Thanks for taking the time to put this video together. Really enjoyed it

Very little of this made any sense to me, but it was still sooo cool. Thanks for doing this!
Haha I love it!

Thanks so much matt welcome aboard!!
Nice video man! ❤️ the little stray cat.
thanks man!
Awesome thank you!
great job sir!!👊
Good work :)
I could've sworn that I watched The Edge play the outro part in first position, augmenting and noodling on a D chord 🤔
He does. There’s a video of him explaining it on youtube.
If you want to teach, then I suggest after the lesson you give, then play the song within all its forms
I thought I wanted this. I was right. More pedal shstuff please. Tom morello whammy shstuff.
Jarvis the rocking cat! Welcome hope to see more of the little furry guy.
See the stone set in your eyes...

“Wooshie swooshies” 😂
Am I on my own in thinking Ryan is a lot like a nicer Chevy Chase (when he was young and still funny)?
New kitty yay!!
Meow. Meow meow meow. Meow. Mew mew mew meooow. Ask Jarvis to translate.
He says don’t talk about mis mother like that
Nice video! what I want to know is what that high pitch whistle? Guitar? Keyboard? is? Hi kitty! Hope you’re well 💚
Guitar. He’s using an eBow device.
🤔
Great video..... So much 'successful' music is actually simple......and over-rated.
Jarvis 😂
with or with out you is driven by the voice, everythin else its just add ons, like a classical aria
What I’ve taken from this is that this confirms that The Edge is the most overrated guitarist of the 80’s and 90’s.
Sounds like someone is a bit sour … cheer up. I’m sure you’ll sell out stadiums one day and realize music comes in many forms

Don’t get your panties in a bunch 😂
