I don't believe people realize just how broke they can make themselves trying to keep up with influencers. They seem to forget influencers are given items to endorse companies products. That said I've been following her and know how hard she's hustled. She deserves a life that she loves. She's earned it.
I love this sentiment. Both can be true. Influencers get a lot of free stuff, which is part of the reason why their houses and clothing always looks so cute. But they get that free stuff because they side-hustled so hard it grew into a main hustle. I appreciate how more and more influencers are up front about it.

Influencers decorate their house using free items but also even if they buy those things, it's solely to make their videos look good so we can enjoy watching them. They have viewers. Us normal people shouldn't spend a crazy amount of cash we don't have to copy them.

My mom decorated EVERYTHING dark brown! (1960-1970s) But she let me choose my own colors for my room. I chose lavender! Walking through that door was like Dorothy leaving Kansas and entering Oz! It directed me to be an artist. ❤

Cool, I'll just handwash it. You wanna drink your water in a crystal glass? Slay. Like, why have those things just sit in a cabinet gathering dust? That never made sense to me as a kid.
I do the same! That precious blanket since I was a baby, snuggle up in it boo, that’s what it was made for. I wanna USE my stuff until it can’t be used any more. We can’t take it with us. But we can cherish the memories from actually living our lives!
I actually watched a TedX talk a while back where a young woman made the point you made here. I think she was an ER nurse. She basically pointed out that people who passed through the ER weren't usually wearing their nicest clothes, etc., and for some people, that's the end of the line. So, the takeaway I remembered most was to use the good china, use your "good" things, and enjoy them. It's been a while since I watched that video, but she may have also talked about releasing (decluttering) the things that don't bring you joy. Even if I'm merging a couple of memories together, it's still good advice. Life should be infused with joy wherever and whenever possible because in the spectrum of time, life is short.
For about 5 years, we didn't have a dishwasher, so we used the good china, because it had to be handwashed anyway! Stopped using it when we got a dishwasher 😁 but still use the silver flatware. 😂
In most cases, tastes and priorities change when we grow up. Some fun and colourful things are certainly in order, but when I have been to some shops I will need a calm atmosphere...
My mom and stepdad worked 5 jobs between the 2 of them and still didn't have enough money. We were often late on bills. We had to get food from the food bank. My clothes came from Walmart most of the time and while it's not a big deal now... it was back then. We always had the most beat down cars that barely ran. I didn't need a colorful and exciting home... we didn't have much but my parents were hard working good people who loved me very much!
I'm starting to incorporate the things I want and love into my home, like an art studio and record player. Before, when my neice and nephew were young I held back on certain things I worried they mess with 😂 or always considered my family when it came to spare rooms/space. Now, a guest room is the last thing on my list 😏🤭.

I always decorated my homes with things that i loved and wanted. The use of colour was also a priority and was used liberally. So not all adults do that. I'm in my mid 60s and I'm still doing what i love because I love it, and it makes me happy. I recently bought a cottage and colour, functionality, repurposing and cool and funky things that are unique and fun, are all things I'm using in this charming place. Lots of diys including a playhouse for my grandkiddies, a bunkie, our beloved Pirates Cove play area with a great owl, crocodile and octpus, as well as a fairy stage are projects that are all on the go and some already complete. A rock climbing feature and a zipline will go in soon. A boardwalk leading to my lighthouse along the shore, is to follow with a unique seating area and canoe planter. Creativity in the woods is mesmerizing to say the least. Plz some respect for those of us, who are a little unconventional and yet still love books, stilettos, china, crystal and silver too. This does not mean us boring and tasteless, it simply means that we are often misunderstood and stereotyped due to our age and misconceptions by the younger generation. Style and trends come and go and, individual style is unique to each and everyone of us... let's not judge.. Perhaps when you were a kid, what you saw was the trend then that people wanted in their homes, and not lack of taste, fun or creativity. Dont forget to do sll thst you need money tok and prople raising a family may not always have disposable income. 😊 Btw i didn't see any swinging chairs or hammocks or trampolines. I have lots of those because i love them and they are fun. No trampolines now as I have a bad knee. So i made my dreams come true a long time ago, and i continue to do so as i personalize this amazing property with super fun, comfortable, unique and beautiful things. 🍸 Not everybody wants that.

Yes, it's great if someone can afford such an apartment and decor. Unfortunately, in the country where I live, real estate is so expensive that you have no chance of buying or even renting it without the help of your family. I don't think that even in the US, most young adults can't afford an apartment like yours. They won't go crazy with the decor either due to the prices. Another unrealistic influencer... well I put up a hammock and I had a little bitty trampoline and then the wall kind of broke now I can't have the hammock anymore. but I still roller skate in the house. and I did have wood on the window where you open up like a cabin clubhouse and the ex-husband took all that down so I'll save up my money and do it again so I can play ball on the house without breaking the windows.

Well I thought the same thing until I realized all that ish is expensive…and now It’s very difficult to keep clean & organized when you’re shaving away at your job 24/7 to where you never get to enjoy anything. It’s cheaper, quicker & easier to clean a basic black table with one black chair when you only get 20 minutes to yourself in between all the multiples jobs ppl have to work these days…
I'm actually not sure why so many of the comments reference their own poverty either growing up or currently as the reason to not have a colourful home that's fun. But then it makes me think that people tend to feel like money is what gives others permission to do whatever they want. While I was raising my kids our home was crazy fun BECAUSE I had no money. Everything was DIY, thrifted and hand me down as a renting single mom. And it meant nothing was precious. We had an EPIC 70s purple velvet corner sofa with one of those spinny bar things built in that was where the kids hid the cat. Our "museum wall" was a fantastic collection of framed everything... art projects and found objects unified by IKEA shadow frames. Our "stuff" was collected over time to make a rainbow of vintage china, books, etc. Now that they are older teens we have a grey and gold minimalist home, which is hilarious. Still thrifted but we have also become a team of design sleuths. FB marketplace is a goldmine. It's mostly about intention. I think a lot of people simply don't put that much energy into figuring out who they are design-wise and they think good design must be expensive.
I was lucky. I had parents that created a fun house to live in. It wasn't a theme park, and they prioritized safety and function, but we had a really cool home! Hammocks, club house, tree house, bunk beds, fun toys, comfortable furniture and our home was always filled with music and dancing and yummy homemade food. And both of my parents worked, and we had a family of 5. My dad built everything we had, and my mom was a baker and seamstress and made everything we ate and wore.
I wonder the same thing about cars. Why aren’t we all driving super customized vehicles like in the kids show busy town from Richard scary. Where’s the duck mobile and the dog mobile? 😂

They think about what if they have to sell the home and not necessarily about actually appreciating and living in the home while they are there. I thought this too, but when you come from a background where your family doesn't own anything including their home I kind of understand a little. They think about what if they have to sell the home and not necessarily about actually appreciating and living in the home while they are there. Can't wait to have a home so I can live in it and not just exist in it.
