    Esther and John both said that scene by scene, the character JJ went back toward hyper stereotypical minstral behavior that the show was supposed to distance the black actors from. Esther said by the end of the second season, they'd made JJ into a shuck and jive man rather than the young, artistic black man they'd been lead to believe was going to happen.

    In hindsight, tv is depressing vs real life. I want all my time back!😂 fr though. wish I read more, played more, did more…

    It was BAD times! Calling it GOOD times was a mockery to all the poor black familiies living in the projects!

      Calm down. It was a family-oriented tv sitcom showing the struggles AND joy of a poor family.

      IF YOU listened to this you’d understand they were bringing issues out. Poor wasn’t racist it affected many. ALL shows show the hardships, happy times and what is going on in the world.
