Saeed Anwar was literally the greatest Pakistani opener, he had 20 ODI hundreds , truly majestic and a superstar.
Brother I am indian and in my opinion saeed anwar is not just literally the greatest pakistani opener but literally the greatest pakistani batsman till date. But I think babar azam some day will take over his legacy. Still saeed anwar never got his due respect and was the biggest reason of success of pak team in 1990's. No other paristani batsman excluding babar azam is even close.
Saeed anwar could have done better if Imran khan had not played with his career earlier in his career.

Saeed Anwar deserved to be in the Team since 1988 along with Amir Sohail . It was not until 1996 world cup that he found the permanent place in the team. He lost interest in cricket in 2002 after the demise of his daughter. So he had only 8 or 9 years of productive cricket. Imran khan did not want saeed Anwar in the late 80's and wanted to stick with the laser talents of the likes of Ramiz Raja and Shoaib Mohammad. IMran khan did not want Amir Sohail in the 1992 world cup squad but was picked up by the insistence of Javed Burki, imran Khan's cousin and then chief selector. Amir sohail two innings against India and Australia in the 1992 world cup are my favorite innings. It was amir sohail classic 76 runs against Australia at Perth that put Pakistan on the route to the world cup victory. If Imran had let saeed and Amir made opeening pair since 1990 then the world would have witnessed something unimaginable and then Saeed Anwar was set to break all the records in batting. Same thing would say about the lost talent of Basit Ali who was the the true successor of javed miandad. Imran used to select his team based on likes and dislikes. The main reason saeed and amir were not properly treated by IK was that they did not used to salute him and wanted to play purely based on their talent.

Everyone knew importance of his wicket. Even legandary inzimam never scared us more. At the same time we all wanted to witness the effortless saeed anwar cover drives and those wristy on drives were best u can see on the cricket field.

Saeed Anwar was academically outstanding too. He secured 10 position in overall Karachi board in his internediate (12 Grade) and secured admission in NED Engineering University on the basis of hid merit. He is graduated in Computer Engineering from NED University Karachi.

Keeping all political issues aside I just wanna say from the aspect of a true cricket lover I have always been quite fond Pakistan cricket since I have started watching cricket.
Pakistan has relentlessly produced great cricket maestros especially pace bowlers.
Pakistan used to play from their heart which attracts me most.
Pakistan and West Indies are two sides which I like most apart from my own nation. I really enjoy the way these two sides used to play cricket.

Saeed Anwar was my brother's class fellow in CA Model School, Karachi Airport - He is an Engineer Graduated from NED Engineering University, Karachi - One of Pakistan's Best Engineering Universities - He is from a very good Urdu Speaking family migrated from UP India during 1947 partition.
Huge fan of your analysis Amir saab. Your pragmatic analysis of the game is one of the best I have seen. Your appreciation for talent is genuine and comes straight from your heart.

Aamir in your playing days it never looked you might be such a great orator and such a cool headed person. You would look angry and exhausted most of the time.

Aamir I have been following cricket a decade before you started playing for Pakistan. I saw many captions like great Javed Miandad, Imran, Zaheer Abbas, Imran again and then so many after him. There was a mushroom growth of caption crop. Almost all of you become captions. I think there was a time when almost full eleven was consisted of ex-Captions.
But in all of them only Miandad as always, and Saleem Malik impressed me. Once I heard Saleem Malik telling story of him made caption for the tour of NZ which you also mentioned here. He was telling in an interview that it was very interesting that none of the players or at least the senior lot was not at speaking terms with him.
And that when you people started the test series there. During the first test match he went close to Wasim to give him the ball, he very angrily snatched ball from his hands without looking at him. He said I told him...

Nobody likes to involve in controversies but the system got hogged by controversial people they destroyed Pakistan cricket it's not just about Amir sohail's career who raised his voice on seeing a crime unlike others who keep their mouth shut to secure their place. Saeed after joining a religious group must have realized it now that raising a voice against a sin (gambling is a biggest sin) is a kind of jihad.

Yes, Saeed Anwar is a great cricketer but I personally think Aamir Sohail is better. His batting, bowling, fielding all are phenomenal. The best of him is that he is an honest man. Never betrayed his country and had risen his voice against match-fixing. He deserves the most respect for doing that and he has mine. Aamir Sohail is one of the greatest cricketers of all time.

You're absolutely right that Saeed bhai would have been disheartened after getting to know that you have been dropped from the test squad straight after the 2000 Sri Lanka's Pakistan tour, because I still remember when Saeed bhai was handed over the captaincy in 2000 he said about you and other legends of Pakistani team that with these guys we are building our team for the 2003 world cup! Unfortunately you never played after that, this is the dilemma of Pakistan cricket where legends aren't respected.
