" When you're down and troubled" is the first line from "You've Got A Friend"
Best play on that is Phil Lynots ''Dont beleve a word'
"The truth is the only thing that matters and the truth is the only thing you'll remember" Great video Tony!
Cheers Keith, can't beat a bit of the Hansard.
wtf is this quote bruh.
honestly I'm a Song Writer I've been a Song Writing Songs When I Was 15 years Old and Always I Loved Writing Songs and I'm still learning how 😍😍😍😍✌️
I’m new to songwriting and I love the craft and the challenge.
The best song writers know how to tell a story with a catchy tune. Having said this, I have no idea how they do it.
FANTASTIC!!
Great interview! I could listen to Glen for another hour or two.
Tony, utmost respect and love from the bottom of my heart for reminding me of the sole reason music called me forth with, from the "ancient" East, to the "modern" West - 🙏Glenn's movie "Once", and the innate drive within to seek truth❤🔥
Your so amazing. Fallen in love with this
9:00 like writing authentically from the heart in your journal

I played guitar for almost 38 years and I write only a few riffs. I don't get how to write a song. I thing, I have a lack of something. When I tried I get bored...because It not good enough. Thank for the advices....I love music so much...maybe somedays something happen. Thank you.
cheers Mart. don't be afraid to write a bad song. if you write enough bad songs, some of them are bound to be good.
Also you can use a song writing template to structure your song
What a great track!
Thanks for sharing
I never listened to the words of dancing in the dark, I always thought it was a euphemism for having sex, with the lights off.
Awesome video…loads of of insightful moments and advice. Thank you!
thank very much. your channel is great!
Cheers bzr, glad you're enjoyinh the content. 😀
Good stuff…!
I think that singing rubbish works well because it allows you to focus on a the melody using your voice and all its nuance with out having to struggle to fit real words and thoughts into a form. It’s too hard to do all of that at one time. Sing rubbish to get the melody and feeling matched to the music itself. Then it’s a little easier to fit words to the existing melody. That seems to work for many great songwriters.
totally agree Zoltan.
Toplining
Well and its not just the melody, but the rhythm too. It's easy to feel a vibe and mumble the right amount of syllables, this word should be one syllable, the next one should have three, etc. It's a way of feeling the vibe of the song without having to think. Every song I've written happens this way
Thamk you for this! :)
No worries Rik, glad you got some value from it.
So good! I do the blah blah blah technique. All sub conscious and vowels. What gets weird is when I do get a song, itis prophetic about what actually happens in my love life world. I won't even know for a year or two how it came true. Hemmingway one true line to begin with! That knocked me out when I heard he said that on a PBS special on him last year. John Lennon said something about say the truth and put a back beat to it. Horses/divorces!
This is gold.
cheers Johkern, glad you got some value from it.
This is a great video!
cheers Azi.
Great video! Happy St. Patricks day
Cheers Sadie, happy Paddy's day to you.

@@SongWritersChopShop just switched from trying to come out as a trappper to singing pop rock because singing and melodies can really send a different emotion, and your videos really help me with writing my first album. ✨💛 wish you a great day ahead!
@@tonisantoniofficial Nice one. have a good one.
When your down and troubled
And your heart is dark and muffled
so cool , epic advice :D
glad you enjoyed Mz.
So this is interesting. Thereve been a number of times where I've been trying to start a song for hours. And i get frustrated and angry and think I'm shit. But then i write a line about that. How i can't think of anything to write and I'm sad (something like that), but then something weird happens. I think of another line. Then another. And i end up with a song. I often joke about how my best songs started with a line about not knowing what to write 🤣 but i think that's what he was talking about, that hemmingway quote. If you're stuck, just write something true.
Great vid 👌
Cheers welshaccenttutorials, glad you enjoyed it
Great video mate. Really great insight. I’m going to nick some Radiohead lyrics. He new what he was doing 😂.
God I wish I learned all this as a kid. I wasn’t aloud a guitar but I had a Casio keyboard and press the slow rock button, lower the tempo and select synth lead and Phil Collins the hell out of it.
LOL, I cut my teeth on a Casio as well. Long live 80's synths!
@@SongWritersChopShop allowed not aloud. Must learn to spell before song writing is a must.
@@TheLambchop29 knew not new
@@alvendi2012 thanks mate. This bloody phone I use is useless. I can’t rush txt!! I’ll be more careful next time. If you see any more grammar mistakes please let me know but don’t wait a year. Take care of yourself and don’t marry your cousin
That F#minor 4 was a stroke of luck or genius because it recolored the whole chord prog nice!
How do you explain Pink Floyd Great Gig in the Sky
Does anybody know what Glen was on about when talking about his issue with full rhymes such as trouble and rubble? He never fully explained it.
he was basically saying that you can expand your lyric options when you don't just use perfect rhymes.
@@SongWritersChopShop Thank you! Your channel is incredibly helpful.
Gibberish saves!!!
I'm a bit of an oddball as a writer and player because i never learened any cover songs, i just learned chords and started writing I don't listen to other music so it wont influence me. But it makes your musical scope much narrower and i find i tend to go over the same ground a lot. writing simmilar melodies. I don't know any other musicians who entierly ignore other music I couldn't tell you the names of any of the people in the charts nor name any of their songs, I think this has given me a unique style hopefully without any obvious influences, but who knows if its any good? Whos to say whats good?
Crumble?
Happy Paddy's Day :D
and a Happy irish day to you.
@@SongWritersChopShop two years ago I made sure to get out of town (Dublin) and went to Dunquin in the west for Paddy’s day.
@@WizardOfArc Nice, I've never been there. how was it? Paddy's day in dublin was always way too messy for me.
@@SongWritersChopShop it was gorgeous and quiet. You could see Skellig Michael in the far distance when the day was clear and the sunset was stellar. It was was very rainy at times 🤣
Why do singers from non american countries sing with an american twang .
I respect the Irish bands who embrace their own accent ala the Dubliners and nowadays Fontaines DC.
