Another great rundown. Thanks JJ - I'm going Team AMD this time around with the X870 Crosshair Hero and the 9950X. I appreciated the coverage and heads up on the Ryujin III AIO Extreme - gonna pick that up too.
He said in the stream that there are no current plans to announce or discuss 890 series BTF. To stay tuned. Sounds like they have no initial plans for BTF release but are looking into it. Wait time could be months then.
Very disappointing. They are pushing this new standard (which is good) but dont even have new hardware available using it, seems like a huge miss to me.
I have a question. I'm currently using a Rog Rampage VI Extreme, I got it because the whole bottom part of the motherboard lights up - super beauty. Could you tell me if the lower part also lights up on the Maximus Extreme version? You're missing out if this isn't lit.
With the lesser number of USB-A ports on rear I/O it is making me reconsider going to Z890 tbh. Going from a Maximus Hero X Z370 which had just the right number to a TUF Z790 which meant had to buy a PCIe USB expansion card because not enough to cover peripherals & other USB-A connected devices, it would mean again that would need 2 PCIe USB expansion cards or one that has more than 4 ports on it (which means using up PCIe lanes that on a non-HEDT platform are going to be limited even with a Gen4 GPU & 4+ PCIe Gen4 NVMe drives) or not applicable if the m.2 slots share lanes with the PCIe 1x slots on the boards & the slots are disabled if a m.2 drive is installed in a certain socket. Seriously need to include USB-A 2.0 (minimum) slot cover breakout adaptors in the boxes with the motherboards. Could easily replace the either the HDMI or DP port/s on the rear I/O with additional USB-A ports as most people who will be buying these boards will not be using the iGPU at all (unless need to barebones test). Can understand leaving the HDMI/DP on the Prime or other low end boards for office use, but they are wasted real estate on the ROG boards at least even if the iGPU is left enabled in UEFI for QuickSync purposes.
I love the Apex white boards. I currently have the Z790 Apex running a 14900KS water cooled. I just can’t pull the trigger on a CPU that isn’t going to be better than the one I have. 😢
Official post from Asus on the intel subreddit says the Z890-I "will be part of second wave of shipments". Can you confirm whether it will be available at launch on Oct 24th?
Honestly, from all boards… on today’s market of course. The better priced is the extreme. The only one with 10gbe and thunderbolt 5 Doubt that the godlike and gigabyte extreme and ai top will be much different
You can easily add 10G via an add in card on boards if needed and all of our boards support TB5 via an add in card there is no need to add cost to boards putting a specification that the vast majority of users will not utilize. Do keep in mind this is the first time even the entry model is offering 40Gbps support native so the IO improvement is considerable compared to prior generations.

I had x299 extreme encore and due to the heat from the vrm actually the display develop image retention over time (CPU Temp). Will the new extreme have this issue? Or is there any new tech implemented to prevent this?
That is due to it being an OLED display which can have the possibility of burn in. The screen on the EXTREME is OLED and as such will not have a concern relative to burn in.
@@ASUSUSA Hi JJ, thanks for replying! I see, you mean the Z890 extreme is using LCD so it has no image retention, right? I will get the extreme then. Thanks! By the way when will you do overclocking guide live stream for Z890?

Can the TB4 ports output video from a connected graphics card? I have a TB4 PCIE card in my desktop right now; it has 2 Mini DP inputs for connecting external monitors or docks by TB4/USB4. I don't see anything like that here. Is the only video output (via TB4/USb4) going to be via the integrated graphics?
you cannot route video to tb without input, if you want this check out the ProArt Creator which offers DP In support. Few users utilize TB in a desktop configuration especially for daisy chain or display connection but if this is a configuration you want the ProArt is a great choice.
What is the cheapest motherboard that allows me to run pcie5 x16 for GPU and pcie4 x4 SSD straight to CPU? Slimsas is cool but requires a cable to conver to u.2 and limits me to Hero as the cheapest option, right?
All motherboards shown can do this but it is not a factor as regardless if the GPU was operating at x8 it would not be negatively impacted. With this noted all boards have a dedicated x4 link for PCIe Gen 4 or Gen 5 M.2 SSDs. This includes the Z890-P WiFi
@@ASUSUSA oh man, you saved me, but where is it on the board I was looking at the pictures of the motherboard pretty carefully but couldn't find it unfortunately, I noticed that clear mos is there
Major point of criticism here: Why do you add m.2 slots to the boards if some of them bottleneck the main pcie slot to x8 mode? Sure, it wont matter on a 4090, but it might on a 5090. So they showed off the BTF as one of the few Z890 models at CES and Computex, but then all this time later when things are ready for release it's no where to be found and there's "no plans." What in the actual F! This is just beyond dumb and nonsensical. This surely takes a hit at trust in ASUS.
