The original song is from "DreamGirls", the Broadway play, long before it was a movie with Jennifer Hudson, in which she won an Academy Award for her performance. Jennifer Holliday was the star in the play (beginning 1981) and her performance is what made this song iconic. There is an incredible performance available on RUclips featuring Hudson and Holliday singing this song together. Jennifer Hudson is the youngest person to ever become an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award winner)! She is a true American Treasure, and one of the greatest vocalists of our times. As for Gabriel, I am a longtime fan, he's a rising star and a vocal phenomenon!
