Holy shit your back! I missed your channel
Ohh. It's been a while simce you've last posted. Glad to see you're still active from time to time
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Most craftsmen don't often discuss their failures, but you learn more from them. If it were easy, everyone would do it, and it would cheapen the art form.
Just found this page again after watching it for years really good memories
I remember watching you when I was a kid you inspired me to melt aluminum
I strangely enjoy you videos. Your very relatable
haha cheers man
I want to meet your dad. I know that sounds weird as hell but I have a feeling he's a lot like mine since I assume most of the tools you started with were/are his. If thats the case, you are lucky. When I was a kid my dad and my best friends dad had tools for everything and could fix anything so I just assumed all dads had lots of tools. It wasn't until I was 12 or 13 that I realized how lucky I was and how the average home doesn't have much they might have a couple of screwdrivers, some pliers, and maybe a drill. This still surprises me today at the age of 30 when I am at a friends house and ask if they have a hammer or screwdriver or some common tool and they say no.
I abused the hell out of my dads tools until I moved out and had to buy my own and now I know how much of a little shit I was for never putting them back up properly.
Well, my dad is somewhat of the opposite, he also has a lot of tools but he doesn't put them away organised, something i really want him to do, i am getting crazy finding something which i have seen at the same place 2 weeks in a row, but now its gone
X9X9X9X9 My Dad is the same he was always in the garage building stuff and fixing stuff. He made me the man I am today. I'm an Electrical Engineer (so is my dad) the degree is great but the most valuable skills I have are what I learned from my Dad and Grandfather out in the garage. Also it weirds me out when people don't know how to use regular hand tools. I meet engineers with masters that are pretty much useless and need me to show them what my Dad taught me when I was a little boy. To rub it in after telling them that my Dad showed me how to do this as a lil boy. I ask them what their Dad does for a living and then say "Makes since now."
I've watched your videos for years, I love when you upload and it actually is a nice surprise to see them in my sub feed, your channel is the reason I found other makers to watch and even try some my self
A cool project would be a variable speed belt sander since you are into design and electrical stuff.
@The Weapon Artisan yea sounds cool
It's on the list, just need to get some other things out the way first!
Eyyy you're back I've been waiting lad. Hope you're doing fine and shit. Been watching ya since the beginning
The champion returns.
Im really excited for that CNC!
so am I haha
its great to learn from failures. I wish there were more videos showing unsuccessful attempts for us to learn from. good on you for posting that. thank you!
Glad to see you back making videos !
Refreshingly honest and informative thanks
Definitely come along way from that first plywood catapult! I remember subbing when you uploaded that video!
Great to see you back! Keep up the good work.
It's great to have you back, I've always enjoyed your videos
I think the broken knife attempt #1 is still better than the dull, spotchy blades you can buy at Tesco
Whoa!... he's back. I thought you had gone for good this time, it's been so long since you last uploaded... Your stuff is always interesting. :)
Suggestions, only heat the oil to 170 Fahrenheit, and use vegetable oil as well. Normalize the blade several times (there are normalizing recipes online depending on the steel you are using). And last keep the blade in the old for about 2 minutes. Especially at that size
FINALLY a new video. you were one of the first "makers" i watched on youtube. Love your videos. they are inspiring.
I had a much smaller knife do the exact same thing, splitting right down the spine. I too did not properly anneal or thermocycle it after more than one quench attempt. Hell of an effort! These things definitely happen. Lookin forward to part 2.
I just started the process of my first knife yesterday. Happy to have you back.
Hi the cracking of the blade wouldn’t have been due to unreleased internal stresses because those stresses would be relieved during the heating cycle as you pass through the transformation temperature on the second attempt. The reason is probably due to the large difference in cross section. Sounds like you had success in the end so look forward to the next instalment 👍
Good to have you back mate. I do hope it becomes less sporadic and you get the time and motivation to invest back into your RUclips channel. Your work has always been a cut above most and it's amazing when you share your order of operations with us. Keep up the good work 👍👌🗡
Keep them coming! 👍
SO GLAD YOU'RE BACK!!! Keep up the great work
Sorry bro that kind of things happen unfortunately 😣 its great that u dont stop working after this👍💪 u can also use water with salt, in big sized workouts with metal water is not bad. Anyway wish u success in your projects 👍👍
Damn good to see you back on the grind. Been here since your HDPE slingshot video came out
Hey mate....great to see you back! Thanks for the upload. I hope you and your family are well and safe from the beer virus!
Love your videos.
Good to see you back on the horse, you are keen as mate, thats some work you've done there. As usual I'm impressed with your get up and go and can do it attitude. excellent
So glad you are back at making vids!! Can't wait to see more!
great to see you posted again. ive been watching for years and you videos inspired me. i do projects with plastic now. keep it up man!
keep em coming man
Welcome back man
Welcome back Artof You're a marvel !
Holy shit. I just watched the hdpe video. Now this one. Someone grew up haha
I use used Harley oil 20/50 weight i believe it is. Make sure its used oil the carbons from engines makes the oil way better to quench with. Ive never cracked a blade
Yay! He's back :) Missed these vidz, thank you for the time and effort.
hell yea so many sparks
glad to see you upload again, sucks that it didnt work the first time, cant wait to see the successful one though
Great to see another video from you! So yeah, handsanding, filing, cracks and frustrations... Thats sound about right for knifemaking.
Good job not giving up tho! Keep on going mate
LEAFY comes back, GradeA UnderA comes back... and all of a sudden you come back as well
I would hope that you are majoring in some form of engineering with all the items that you have built from scratch.
Hey, you’re back! Good to see you!
VERY VERY NICE, COMPLIMENTI VIVISSIMI PER IL RISULTATO FINALE, ECCEZIONALE. ........10++
How does one develop the patience necessary to see a project like this through to its completion?
I would have used the Japanese method to differentially quench harden it, but hindsight is 2020. Hope you can fix it!
That's some awesome drafting you're doing! You could give lessons on that alone, I suspect.
He literally sounds identical to harry potter. I love it.
4:30 Good focus
Falls off for the next couple clips but I really enjoy what you went for there. Nice
Awsome!
YOUR VOICE HAS CHANGED SO MUCH.
Split into two separate knives
Why is oil used and not just a big drum of water? Rust? But wouldn't a gentle sanding remove it again?
In my experience, bigger knife needs a lot of oil. I also Failed in my 1st oil Quenching because I dont want to spend money in oil, so I use A bit. Next time, I will try Gallon. Pre heating For me is not Effective.
Hey welcome back!
What are you studying?
I made one like that several years ago and my back is still hurting from standing at the grinder. I only made one and won't make another. LOL
a little insanity start a knife with this heavy material, but very interesting
Ayeeee what’s good bro
What do y'all think is the ideal thickness for an edc fixed blade knife that will be used for everything from food prep to carving and fire starting?? Thanks
I think 2 or 2,5 mm are good for this
Then the police knock your door down 😂
It's been a long time since I started this project. It feels good to finally get it uploaded.
Part 2 out now! ruclips.net/video/18d3hNW2ZTg/видео.html
It's good to see you making another weapon! I was not happy with the deviations from that (though I never wanted to seem rude, so if I ever was, I apologize)
It's been a long time since you posted anything
OMG OMG OMG I love your channel! I was sad you were gone! Thanks for coming back!!!
I like seeing failure. It's the best way to learn, so thank you for sharing!
Do you have an amazon wishlist of tools you want? it would be a good way for people to support you and get the sandpaper you need
welcome to 2020 the age in human history where we are surprised that tools still work, not really how back from the future movie depicted the future.
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEEEEEEN ????????
That's dummy thicc.
👍👍👍
Oh my god piece of nice metal and you grind half of it and do only one knife from it
Pitty this guy is gone...
Te ubiera quedado mejor con un Riel de tren
Interesting way of suffering :D
Fucking gutted for you mate
Such strange timing, I was literally just about to search for your Chanel to watch some old videos.
Good to see you back
I respect people who show things that don't always turn out to be perfect. We feel your pain, glad your safe fella.
*t h i c c knife*
I haven’t been to this channel in a while. It’s weird hearing you voice much deeper since I’ve been watching you since the early days of your channel.
Once you have it over the upper critical temp it's all Austenite, and there is no stress. The carbon atoms are in solution. Cooling it slowly makes sure it stays that way, nothing more (transforms into Cementite and Pearlite). I think the uneven heating and higher temp in conjunction with the cold oil did it if anything. Your O1 is a very 'simple' basic steel, no strange cycles should be needed as far as I understand things. That blade has a rather extreme profile also, the edge will cool much faster than the spine. Even so I am very impressed with all the work you do on this channel!
Good to see you back mate.
this build inspires me to make something
similar.
What a great upload! And what a comeback!
I'm really happy you overcame your frustration and went back to finishing this knife.
hi mate.. nice project...
btw. i play your video at 720, why its feel like 360 ?
I laughed, I cried, the drama alone was worth it. When you started talking about it in past tense......my heart sank. Glad you have not given it up, love your projects, thank you.
Sorry about the knife but you have taught lots of people by showing your failings. I personally would have also been gutted if that happened to me but the idea is to learn from our mistakes, take care and thanks for the video.
MY FRIEND , DID YOU SEE THE CHINESE MOVIES (THE CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON)?THERE WAS A TWIN SWARD THAT LOOKS LIKE ONE SWARD ,BUT WHEN THE COMBAT IS TOO HOT SHE SEPARATED THE SWARDS FROM EACH OTHERS>>>YOU HAVE MADE AN INVENTION MY DEAR
Motor oil ain't the best oil to heat treat. Bunch of bad fumes that come off when you burn it as well. Try soybean oil instead, you can get loads of it from Costco or a wholesale dealer for quite cheap.
fantastic to see you back again! that was a lovely looking blade, its all a good learning experience!
Don't use motor oil. Use heated vegetable oil instead.
Amigo con tu permiso voy a copiar el modelito para mi uso personal
great video and nice to see your back love watching your videos
Love the channel but I don't think that's how you use a metal file...
A hatchet in the shape of a knife. So so cool this is seriously so cool i want one now! Iveant one right now!
Motor oil??? Use regular cooking oil next time
good seeing your posting again mate 👍👍
Holy shit and I thought 9mm was hard to work with
Machine sound is better than chatter👎
How long in real time did it take to get a rough outline with the angle grinder
It's good to have You back here!
Lol gotta love them downhand welds lol
You are back finally :D
I like the amount of effort you put into your projects! Everything ends up so well done
