I work for a Kentucky base horse trainer who took only twelve horses to the Saratoga Springs race track this year; he told me that I had to remain at the Churchill Downs race track because of the coronavirus pandemic. I have been going to the upstate race track non stop since 2007 every summer. What I want to know is how is the hospitality industry doing this year without the thousands of horse racing fans? Have any of the restaurants gone out of business; and have any of the restaurants boarded up their windows; and doors?
Zodiac Nozomu that’s strange, that’s really not my impression of the city. On the other hand, I am white myself and have honestly no idea what it’s like to be black there. I always got the impression that people were super nice and always wanted to talk to you despite color. I’ve spoken to black people there and in fact my family has befriended a black family there and there were super nice and never spoke about being treated differently but on the other hand, who knows what they been through privately. Anyways, I hope you like the Bronx better, I know it’s a bit of a rough area but if people treat you with nicer there maybe that doesn’t matter too much. :)
I've been to Saratoga Springs in 1998. I loved it. Went to the downtown area. I had lunch. Then, I visited the horse track. I highly recommend it. I'm from Dallas.
I have a wonderful book about Saratoga Springs history full of pix from the 1870's on, of the many gigantic hotels, all the spring pavilions, even photos of winter with incredible amounts of snow. I would love to be able to go back in time to experience those great hotels, many of which were destroyed by fire over the years. Only a very few remain....a very gracious moment in history when ppl would come to places like Saratoga for rest cures and sometimes to bring a son or daughter to make an advantageous match.
I love SPAC. I've seen some great concerts (doobie Bros/Chicago, Doobies/Santana/Doobies 50ish Anniversary) and every time, I had a blast. They have bit for everyone in terms of performers and food options. Definitely a great place to check out during the Summer. If you're doing a weekend trip, I recommend going to the Track one day, then a concert the next or vise versa.
Hi Sarah! Terrific video. I worked as a guard at the racetrack one summer while in college (yes, a while back but not as far as Lincoln... :) RichE (via Connie in San Diego... :)
This is cool, Sarah. I'm a little south of Saratoga but Im hoping to get up there soon for a food review. Hattie's is high on my list! Esperanto Doughboys are now available at the Stewart's Shop's around here. They call them "Oh Boys" now. Lol
Hello! I’m a local too. Would you please tell me where you went to go kayaking on the Kaydeross Creek? I did not recognize that area. The name of the place you put in and came out and parked your car. Thanks so much
HI me and my hubby are confused. Its so mad far from the city we have only been there once years ago during racing season. We are not fans of horse racing in general but LOVED the track and I read Seabuiscuit one of the best books I ever read! Anyway we are planning on staying there on the way to Niagara Falls. But it will be in summer but slightly before the track opens. Can we go there for a tour. I cant find any direct info on seeing the horses before opening day. Any help would be appreciated!
Track season is absolutely not fun for the residents, it's a nightmare if you want to get anywhere or work nearby. For commuters especially. For cyclists, it's a deathtrap. Nobody out of town knows how to drive on our streets. The Ballston-Circular-Broadway intersection is always a nightmare, NY 29 onto Broadway no one understands that you need to be in the left or center lane to turn left (go figure) and I'm not even touching on Union. I'm not even touching on SPAC when that opens up during track season.
Very informative and very well done! We visit for the weekend a few times a year but I learned a ton. Although not the best to include in a video on things to do, the northshire bookstore is excellent. The upstairs in the casino is definitely haunted by the way.
When you and your husband and your daughter (and maybe more children!) grow up, do you think you will go back to the quiet life of Saratoga? The cost of living is surely much cheaper in Upstate New York, but you need to find a job there. Or maybe you'll buy a summer cottage in Saratoga (for those who don't know it is about a three hour drive from NYC (outside rush hour!)?
isn't there also a secretariat memorial there? He's my faviurite racehorse, and i would love to see a statue of him.. SARAHtoga looks like a very pleasant place!
There is a noted city in Silicon Valley CA, called Saratoga. Please use the whole name of Saratoga Spring to tell them apart. Your city is also very nice.
It's becoming the Jersey Shore meets the Hamptons. I love it here...but it's becoming a poodle-in-purse cupcake town. And horse racing is a dying industry...doping and whipping horses aint cool at all.

My dad loved Saratoga. During the summers when I was 13 and 14 he'd take me to Hatttie's before we went to a concert at SPAC.

I absolutely love Saratoga. Been to countless SPAC shows. Short drive to the magnificent ADK park too! Amazing little gem of a place for sure.

Inside Saratoga gives driving tours of the city and the Visitors Center hosts walking tours.

Thinking of moving there with my GF. We doing our research. We currently live about 4 hours away on long island. Hows the job force around there?
"Health through water" is not a "theme". It's the English translation of the Latin acronym "spa", "Salus Per Aqua".
