- Ravenscraig steelworks, operated by Colvilles and from 1967 by British Steel Corporation, consisted of an integrated iron and steel works and a hot strip steel mill. They were located in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Motherwell was noted as the steel production capital of Scotland, nicknamed Steelopolis.[1] Its skyline was dominated by the gas holder and three cooling towers of the Ravenscraig steel plant which closed in 1992. The Ravenscraig plant had one of the longest continuous casting, hot rolling, steel production facilities in the world before it was decommissioned. Construction of the integrated iron and steel works started in 1954. The steel mill, which was built shortly after, was one of four in the United Kingdom. In 1992, when it closed down, it was the largest hot strip steel mill in Western Europe.
The former steelworks and strip mill have now been cleared, and the site is in the process of becoming the new town of Ravenscraig.

Nice johnny mac26. It's just fun to fly a drone. It was a beautiful day here on the east coast USA. Took my Mini3 pro out for a flight. Nothing spectacular to see, but I'm gonna post it anyway. LOL. Stay well my friend, and keep posting.

Great video and the history of the steel works, loved it. Shame they couldn't turn it into a nature reserve for everyone to enjoy. But there's money to be made selling the land to developers.
Apparently the ground is way to poisoned to build on certain parts heavy metals lead chrome etc

They have started but some parts esp near the old tower the ground is poisoned
@@johnnymac26 I was wondering if the ground could have been contaminated. Which means people should live very far from there if the contamination has gotten into the water table.
@DavidLorenzoFlorida there was a row of houses where the cancer rate was way above the national normal I'm sure ...Will see if I can find the article
