I, like most black women grew up without a father. My mother was the sole provider. Even though she was feminine she was very much in her masculine energy because she was the sole provider. So, I grew up knowing I could never depend on a man for nothing. Then I met Ben, a provider, I pushed him away because I wasn’t use to that. But, then a older black women who’s a neighbor broke it down to me. So, I reconnected with Ben and we have been together ever since. Shout out to April Mason her channel was therapy.

I didn't watch the whole thing, only the first few minutes, but I hope that at some point during this hour-long discourse, someone reminded him that it was women, not men, who caused these societal changes. It was women who started the feminist movement and demanded to be able to work, pay their own bills, be treated as men, etc. Now they have that, how is it the fault of men? He needs to address that fact before I can take any of this other stuff he's saying seriously.

This was a excellent discussion with many nuggets! In every other culture it seems the norm of taking on a wife is valued and this concept of providing is understood. It baffles me that this could be considered stupid or dumb and the new idea in the black community appears to be a focus of men leading with money and investing in material things as a flex or bate to attract women and then complain if he has to provide. Why is it that unions these days seem to be more about her function or role in helping it elevating him financially then him being position to do that before he weds ? I would think as adults both men and women should be in a financial stable place with a posture to build, not come into the relationship looking to maintain what they may could not or now need her help to accomplish, achieve goals or thrive and it's more women doing this and responsible for households and communities without a roommate type situation. I agree, their should be a CEO and a CFO in the marriage just as a business. If her skill is stong in cultivating while you are providing the compromise should be that her finance can be allocated to help build, invest and add pleasurable balance to a higher quality of living until the ROI but not required. Women birth children, usually function as a caregiver whenever needed so if a household " requires" her income I personally would say the family is establishing a living beyond their means and setting themselves up for challenges. A women single leading and proving for herself is completely different the becoming someone's wife taking on a submissive posture of serve while basically being treated like a roommate! I would hope men in our community begin to see our intelligence and cultivating attributes that make the world go around. We bor legacies of stronger children and families, create viable and more productive black community with the bases of a strong union and strong family structure with a strong man that willfully provides. I have been married almost 25 yrs and have 4 son we preach creating a strong foundation before taking on a wife! The black community does not require worries so provision should be the standard.

To all the women who think that not having a father matters - I grew up with my father, and a very good father at that, and still, I discovered that men can’t be trusted when I became a woman. In fact, my mother knew that men can’t be trusted too, bcuz when I was about 7 or 8 years old, my mother told me that I’ll never know what it is to have a good man, bcuz men don’t come like your daddy anymore. And of course, I didn’t believe her. But it turned out that what she said is true.
I don’t know what it is to have a good man. My mom was right on the money with that prediction. And what I actually found is that men are indifferent to nice moral women and prefer women not wrapped too tight and loose, and I was nice and moral. And refused to become something I’m not. Which is why I can’t trust men.
And the same thing is true for my niece who is 26. She still a virgin and don’t know what it is to have a good man either. So, I really don’t know what all this talk about men paying for everything is about. I seen a few guys do that, but there’s a tradeoff where those guys are a massive pain in the neck with it. Which is not worth it. Why live in pain just for the man to pay for everything?
Money is not what’s really going on between men and moral women. The real barrier is indifference. Men want to be struggle bandits to moral women and play them for suckers, and actually falls in love with 304 type of women and want to make it there. So, I’m not going all along with a man over money. I don’t care if he’ll pay for everything or not. I want nothing to do with a man who prefers a wild, loose, or mentally ill women bcuz I’m not like that. And money can’t compensate for incompatibility.

I really truly hope they listen and understand what he shared. Especially when he said how much are you actually putting into those "important" things in your life. Because that defines how you approach relationships. I loved this. So helpful. Well done.
