Hello Happy Travelers!!
Welcome to our grand 10th anniversary trip! For the first time, we are traveling to Europe, and we are checking several bucket list items along the way! We are starting in Rome Italy, followed by a 9 night Mediterranean/Greek Isles Cruise onboard Odyssey of the Seas, and finishing in France to visit Disneyland Paris!
Today we are docked in Piraeus, the gateway to Athens Greece! We have big plans to tour the city via the Royal Caribbean tour “Highlights of Athens”! The main event of the tour is to visit the Acropolis, where we were able to learn about the temple of Athena and Poseidon, the Theatre of Dionysus, and of course, the Parthenon! We also saw the sight of the first modern day Olympics and the temple of Zeus! We talk about the pros, cons, and things to consider with this excursion!

The last time I was in Athens was quite a number of years ago and I remember visiting the Acropolis in the late afternoon. Barely any crowds, lots of time to just sit and take it all in. I love that people are getting out and seeing the world but when I see Disneyland style lines it makes me a bit sad. It feels like it is very much a rush, rush from one monument to another just to check it off a list and to me those ancient sights are so much more than that and deserve more time and contemplation. Sorry to sound like I'm complaining, I'm not really. I just feel like people should slow down a bit and truly appreciate the significance of history. Okay, off my soapbox now. lol Can't wait to see your vlogs from Santorini and the rest of your adventures.

On our Med cruise this summer we did not have Athens on our itinerary, so it was great to see it through your video! Those cats (all over Greece!) are just so cool to see. I took SO many photos of cats! Even bought a "Cats of Greece" t-shirt. Can't wait to see your day in Santorini!

I taught ancient civilizations for years so when we were going on our Mediterranean Cruise I was so excited to go to Athens. Well, the Greeks decided to have a Country-Wide strike that day so no Athens!

I would just prepare ahead by arranging transportation before hand or talking to the hotel staff the day before about calling for a taxi the next day and how to go about that. Hi Simon! It's hard to say because we only experience the Royal Caribbean one and can't speak to the quality of the outside party ones. I think the Royal Caribbean is the simplest option and the safest but I'm sure other tours are great too! Thanks for watching! 🤗❤️🚢
I always wonder how they hear the people on stage up in the seats. They didn't have microphones. Is that a weird question?
No not a weird question at all! I know some of the ancient theaters had excellent acoustics where sound carried up just do to the construction of the stage and seats, but I have no idea if this stage was one of those examples. Hey! About to head on this trip in a couple days, my friend and i didnt get an excursion for greece. what is the best way to get to acropolis from the boat?
May or may not be going on this similar cruise now as it was chartered out by a company called Atlantis Events for a “specialty” cruise 😢 and our sold out Greek Isles cruise was canceled as Royal was greedy and took that company’s millions over the happiness of it’s already booked guests.
Do you regret only getting to spend a few hours in Athens? That’s one of the downsides of cruise travel, only a short amount of time in the places you travel to

I could never understand why should anyone go on a cruise. You spend most if the time in a ship, when you go out you run to see a couple of things, and overall I think I agree with Bill Burr.
You should try a cruise just once. Then you'll understand it all.
