In the past 40 years, the prison population in the US has quintupled. Despite accounting for 37% of the American population, Blacks and Hispanics account for 64% of the prison population, and 75% of all inmates in Federal penitentiaries. With more prisons than schools in the US, urgent questions arise: are these facilities really giving prisoners a chance to rehabilitate themselves? Are their living conditions humane? How does our society advance toward attaining equity?
Featuring insights from social justice activist and attorney Bryan Stevenson, visual art by Hank Willis Thomas, and movement art by Jon Boogz and Lil Buck, the short film AM i A MAN takes its audience on a gripping, heartbreaking, and critically important journey through the harsh realities of a broken justice system.

MAI (Movement Art Is) is an organization that uses movement artistry to inspire and change the world while elevating the artistic, educational, and social impact of dance. Through movement art films, workshops, performances, and exhibitions, MAI is resetting the spectrum of what dance is.
DAIS is a launchpad dedicated to developing, producing and distributing creative projects in TV, film, music and radio. DAIS operates a safe creative, and collaborative townhouse in downtown Toronto, equipped with production facilities, innovative work space, a music studio and a gallery. DAIS puts artists and the creative process first, because their stories shape the world.
Great Big Story is a global media company devoted to cinematic storytelling. Headquartered in New York, with bureaus in London and Stockholm, our studios create and distribute micro docs and short films, as well as series for digital, social, TV and theatrical release. I love this use of music and dance to complement a very important humanitarian message. May we all work together to create a better future where we can all do positive things for our communities rather than having to pay for dysfunctional institutions like our public schools and double-speak criminal justice system.
My favorite quote from here is "...the opposite of poverty is justice."
