This whole episode convayed so much emotion and passion with the silkies memories. The music...the dancing..and the ending was the final bolt in the coffin that sent me bawling into full tears...10/10
In the manga, this flashback is also mostly textless: no dialogue, no sound effects, only two lines to close it off. And this is not the only moment where Tatsu let's the images do the talking. There are many moments of raw emotions where the imagery does the talking. Yeah that was a …… i did not expect how this was gonna go, I thought maybe we’d find out that’s actually her real mother and maybe she passed away. But I didn’t expect that….
When I first read this chapter in the manga, that was the point I lifted my head up and actually realized what this series was doing. I was ready for this episode; I knew what was coming, but the direction of the episode, the animation, the production and effort seeped into it, elevated it to the point it actually caught me off guard and I too found myself shedding some tears despite being fully in the know of where the shoots were headed. The anime made this backstory better than the manga. I teared up. Reminds me a lot of Dark Gathering but this is more emotional than disturbing. In case it wasn’t clear, in the manga she jumps off a roof.
As someone who read the manga i knew this was gonna be sad but the studio really took it to another level because the flashback is only like half a chapter.
This episode hit very hard to my heart. Dang man. Like wow. When it came to Aira herself. I just saw Aira cruel selfish pink haired female dog. But after what Aira did at the end of the episode. I am glad that she is more than what I thought. I am glad Aira had a good heart.
I wasn't prepared for that backstory. I thought Acrobatic Silky would be Aira's mother. But she just wanted to fill a void in her heart after she lost her actual daughter.
This episode is an absolute masterpiece. The animation direction, the sound design, everything was pitch perfect. This chapter was intensely emotional in the manga and to say the anime did it justice is an understatement. The source material was handled masterfully in a way you rarely see. The manga made me break down crying and the anime made me also cry at the exact same line about the "kinder world" that line just breaks me, every time. (And, it was the title of the episode, to boot.) I have nothing else to say, I'm just gonna stew in my feels, now. 😢
Theres a tragic irony in that dress, you can see her take money out of that folder to buy it, but that same folder was the one that she needed to give to the thugs in order to keep her kid (or whatever deal they had).
Science Saru went beyond the source material with this one! Acro Silky dancing on the rooftop before jumping down to her death scene was beautifully directed. 10/10
Anime episode of the year 😢 I was looking forward to seeing this adapted since I read this in the manga, it was just something else and Science SARU kicked it up a notch, It was Perfect, it was Beautiful and It was Hard to watch.
Huge tonal shift from the previous episodes but very well done. Great visual storytelling, and possibly the most heart wrenching mother/daughter moments I’ve seen outside of two other series with such moments.
This episode broke me holy shit… I was already crying before anything even happened because I knew something was coming and I knew those happy mother daughter moments would end but when it did happen it hit like a truck!! That’s so disgusting and horrifying. Her daughter was ripped away from her as she watched her mom struggle and fight while getting bloody and beaten 😭 🤬
I knew people would not be ready for it, I was so hyped as a manga reader and they delivered a fantastic episode. I immediately thought "best episode of the year" as well, it hits way too hard.
As a mom of three, reading this part in manga hit me a lot. I've been mentally preparing myself for this episode because I already knew I was going to cry. I definitely cried a lot, as expected, but I wasn't expecting the animators to go as hard as they did. The dancing scene was so beautiful. I'm so glad that Dandadan is getting the adaptation it deserves!
When I was told to read the manga this is the point I was told to read until before deciding if I liked the series. Dandadan is a very comedic series but you can’t appreciate without knowing the absolutely gut wrenching backstories
I was emotional watching this episode but its really after the episode ended and I thought about everything and rewatched certain scenes that those tears just...I knew from the RUclips grapevine that this was gonna be emotional and I thought I was ready but man this episode just showed why Dandadan is S tier. The music the animation that hug I thought she was going to dance for her or something but that hug and calling her Mommy and then this show has the audacity to give us an upbeat ending song showing Turbo granny who was just completely awful and unempathetic this episode 100/10 episode. As someone who watches Natsume Book of friends which is airing their seventh season its not uncommon to have emotional episodes for youkai/ghosts which is what that series is about but this show took that and did something next level with it.
OMG I was totally speechless. I was blown away how perfect this was. I also too came to tearing up cause I felt so sorry for her. 20/10 easily. One of the most emotional episodes in an anime series in a while. Perfect and tragic. No more words to describe.
Confession time: as much as I've been enjoying Dandadan, laughing my ass off and everything, there was still a small piece in the back of my head that was annoyed - no matter how much I was enjoying it, I couldn't get the word "overhyped" out of my head. There was something that just wasn't clicking for me. After this episode I won't be saying that anymore, because this episode clicked in the most unexpected way possible.
come on bro, even the manga version of this hit hard, no need to dunk on the manga to make a point. The anime did do some visual magic to how Human Acrobatic Silky die. They find a smart way to not heavily show that she jumped off the building at the end with choosing to do a close up shot on her with all the lights dashing to imply the fall instead of adapting the manga panel that shows her directly jumping off. They probably did for censorship reason but I kinda like how the scene becomes an if you know, you know, wink wink, nod nod.
This episode made me cry at the end both when I was watching the episode myself and when I was watching Brandon’s reaction. As it’s the most emotional scene that I have seen this season and maybe even year. Like seeing such a hard working woman giving her all to make her daughter have as good life as possible despite struggling so much. Was so beautiful to see especially as they made it into a silent montage. Because silent montage can showcase so many emotions regarding life, just watch the first scenes of Pixar’s UP for an excellent example of that. But when the loan sharks come in and beat the mother as her daughter is crying was so hurtful to watch. Especially as the mother was so powerless to stop them from taking her child and also getting hurt by those glass shards. To then she her die on the street and becoming a lost spirit until Aria as a little girl notice her. Which made the woman remember what she was looking for. And seeing how the spirit is then willing to sacrifice herself to disappear into the void forgotten. Was so heartbreaking which turned so beautiful when Aira did hug her and call her mommy. So I hope that spirit now did go to heaven. But yeah did not expect to be so heartbroken from a show that had so crazy comedy at the start. So yeah this is now my favorite episode despite how much it did hurt my feelings😢
These were the chapters that got me fully invested in this series! I remember how shocked I was that this goofy little manga had made me cry some tears . The anime adapted this arc perfectly! Welcome to DANDADAN!
This episode was tragic, sad and yet beautiful at the same 😭 Acrobatic Silky just wanted her daughter to have a good life 😔 Aira received her memories and hugging her at the end was heartwarming 🥹 Great episode!
A Yokai with the most human of experiences. Didn't expect a story of empathy and understanding from this series. I missed this one somehow but will read it once season is over.
I'm going through something similar with my son with my mother's passing. It hurt so much watching since anime is my escape. After the episode, I broke down
"Oh hey this is written by one of Tatsuki Fujimoto's assistants." "Oh no, this is written by one of Fujimoto's assistants!" Like seriously, as someone who read the manga, I can say that they made it so, so much worse. It doesn't help knowing that it was coming but they made it oh so much worse. From the score, to the dancing on the sea of stars and then everything just gets snuffed out is just... wow. And the thing is: The backstory just get worse and if we have season 4, then shit will hit the fans. Props to Science Saru they cooked this tear worthy episode.
Like Demon Slayer, Dandadan regularly uses flashbacks to reveal villains’ backstories. But it uses those flashbacks in a COMPLETELY different way. While both series use the flashbacks to humanize their monsters, Demon Slayer simply reveals their true nature as they succumb to wounds inflicted by Tanjiro to invoke our sympathy, while Dandadan offers hope of redemption and atonement to ITS monsters.
Oooh man. This Oldtaku heart hurts. But then there's the segments of beauty. Beautifully Grotesque, like full powered Gon from Hunter x Hunter. Amazing but such sorrow. Then the hug! See you next DanDaDan Thursday!
For a show about ghosts and aliens and curses and stuff, it was the mundane evil that can just happen to people who fall prey to the wrong circumstances that hit the hardest.
Amazing episode, it brings me to tears inside. Horrible story of the mother what happens to her and her daughter being taken away like that. Dan Da Dan has got to be the anime of the year. Because this is amazing story telling.
I was ready before watching this episode because I already read the manga first. but still, I can't hold my tears when the scene shows and yeah it hit hard in anime.
I remember reading this chapter thinking Acrobatic Silky was just an obstacle to overcome. And then the flashback hit harder and harder still. I legit cried. I was like, damn you for making me care.
Dude I watch this anime because I thought it was FUNNY but I'm fucking CRYING now and it'll fuck me up for DAYS This was an amazing episode but if this becomes a regular thing with Dandadan I don't know if I'll have the strength
I read the manga so I knew what will come, then episode 7 came: Me: Oh no... Oh no... Science Saru added new scenes... noo... dont make me this. Me 30 seconds later: (Understanding Frank Castle) No,no,no! No, no, no! Wait! Wait! WAIT! D= At the end of the episode: You Damned Science Saru madlads, you're a bunch of crazy gogos! God bless you, keep the good work. T_T
I kinda disappointed a little bit about how the mother dies because in the manga, she jumped from probably 10 floor building while doing ballerina. In the anime, the studio doesn't animate that. Well I guess that scene is too graphic and too realistic (of Japanese people taking their lives by jumping from heights).
Btw that Acro Silky First Person POV was an anime original scene, yet it drives the nail deeper than in the manga...and the manga is already heartbreaking on this scene Science Saru was the best studio to have this series animtaed...that's all I'm gonna say
That author really wanted to one up that famous backstory from Up & he sure did. Pun intended. Including that sad RUclips video about a girl figuring out that her father kept lying about himself every single day. You know what I meant. I also think that people who had seen Coco would be even more devastated after this masterpiece.
Turbo Granny really showing up in this episode not giving a shit about anything happening. She better have cared about that backstory though, because that backstory was crazy good and sad. I think what made it really good was not having dialogue for most of it and interesting music instead. Basically like a Sonny Boy kind of thing.

Like seriously, as someone who read the manga, I can say that they made it so, so much worse.
When I read the manga I had already burst into tears, in this episode I was dry from crying.
Why are my eyes moist? My tear glands don't work...
Just... wow.
Thats all I could say in this episode. 😢
the animation and love they put into this is truly fascinating
Yeah I was screaming give her a hug shit had me streaming the whole time
This episode hit harder than expected.
Amazing episode, it brings me to tears inside. Horrible story of the mother what happens to her and her daughter being taken away like that. Dan Da Dan has got to be the anime of the year. Because this is amazing story telling.
I had no idea what I was walking into this episode, I was not ready. Sucks that she didn't get closure about her daughter.
Bro,i am crying tooo..... Nonstop!!!
I was ready before watching this episode because I already read the manga first. but still, I can't hold my tears when the scene shows and yeah it hit hard in anime.
The music is the one hitting me the most honestly
I remember reading this chapter thinking Acrobatic Silky was just an obstacle to overcome. And then the flashback hit harder and harder still. I legit cried. I was like, damn you for making me care.
As a manga reader, let me tell you one thing, this is the FIRST of many heartbreaking moments.
This was such an emotional episode gotta say i almost cried
told ya all to get tissues last episode
Dude I watch this anime because I thought it was FUNNY but I'm fucking CRYING now and it'll fuck me up for DAYS
This was an amazing episode but if this becomes a regular thing with Dandadan I don't know if I'll have the strength
The last time i cried was in HunterXHunter and the end of Meruem and Komugi!😭😭😭😭
I read the manga so I knew what will come, then episode 7 came:
Me: Oh no... Oh no... Science Saru added new scenes... noo... dont make me this.
Me 30 seconds later: (Understanding Frank Castle) No,no,no! No, no, no! Wait! Wait! WAIT! D=
At the end of the episode: You Damned Science Saru madlads, you're a bunch of crazy gogos! God bless you, keep the good work. T_T
That was a hard watch man sheesh I hope she got to rest
I kinda disappointed a little bit about how the mother dies because in the manga, she jumped from probably 10 floor building while doing ballerina. In the anime, the studio doesn't animate that. Well I guess that scene is too graphic and too realistic (of Japanese people taking their lives by jumping from heights).
I watched this at work and it hit... hard. I got 3 other guys in the office and I'm trying to clear up the onion cutting with no one noticing.
man i fucking cried wow i haven't done that since voilet evergarden ep 10
Btw that Acro Silky First Person POV was an anime original scene, yet it drives the nail deeper than in the manga...and the manga is already heartbreaking on this scene
Science Saru was the best studio to have this series animtaed...that's all I'm gonna say
