It doesn't matter who...whenever this song is played every single reaction I've seen includes a smile and head bop! Steely Dan music is absolute genius bar none! :)
I first heard this album in high school, when my girlfriend's brother recommended it. It blew my mind back then and still does today. Can't believe that was 46 years ago!
Aja is one of those rare albums that is consistently, 100% fantastic from start to finish, without a single clunker or second-rate song. And "Josie" is the perfect song to introduce someone to that album, as it is immediately accessible, you love it on the first listen.
Fun fact: Steve Gadd on drums for Aja track did the recording. 6 or so months later Fagen asked Gadd to hear the track -- Steve listened and asked who was on drums. This was during his "high" stage. First take as well.
You’re a great ambassador to the old music. And the lady has a lovely smile. Best of luck on the Steely Dan exploration. Don’t forget my favorite, “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number.”
One of the best bands America ever produced and I love this song to pieces. They brought a mature musical sense to pop/rock music spiced with jazz, funk, reggae, country. You're correct about their production, the arrangements, how each instrument is given its space.
After 4.5bn years of evolution along came Donald and Walter; how lucky we are. R.I.P. Walter, R.I.P. Ricky Lawson. Green Earrings, the final track they performed with their Plush T.V. concert is probably my favourite performance of any of their work.
Ohhh, yeah, grrrroovin on some SD, that whole album is an absolute masterpiece, MASTERPIECE, Gaucho is a thing of beauty as well, Babylon Sister, Hey 19, do review their entire repertoire, and Fagen's Nightfly, great music, greatt, he is masterful,.Godspeed 🙏, Peace ✌
That was great fun and a phenomenal song and one of the best albums ever! It brought to mind another song, this from Donald Fagen's Kamakiriad album called TOMMOROW'S GIRLS that I think LADY MAX and you would LOVE! ✌💕
Greetings, you just can't go wrong with Steely Dan.👍 I kindly request reactions to "Reeling In The Years" 1972 "Bodhisattva" 1973 "Kid Charlemagne" 1976 & "FM" (No Static At All) 1978 Thank you for the joy you've given me.😊
I couldn't help but smile every time Lady Max did, and that was a lot of times. Great reaction! She'll probably be touched by Deacon Blues, do that asap!
You mentioned that you believe that Steely Dan had a regular lineup of band members at the beginning but actually Steely Dan we're using studio musicians from the beginning. Of course Jeff Baxter and Danny Diaz were regulars but they still had other musicians sit in from their first album Can't Buy A Thrill
Deacon Blues probably my favorite Steely Dan song. But they have so many great songs to listen to you can't really go wrong. I totally agree that Aja is their best.
Lady Max has quite the journey ahead getting to know the incredible material of this band. I've been fortunate enough to have seen them live a couple of times over the years and have never seen a tighter band. If I have to choose one word to describe them that word has to be Awesome. My favorite Steely Dan song changes with my mood. But if I settle on one it has to be My Old School which to me provokes middle aged concert crowds into party mode with it's common ground storyline and more Dan ear grabbing melodies. Steely Dan represents a creme de la creme Desert Island catalogue if there ever was one.
Well done my brother! And it is the perfect place to start the Dan... Deacon Blues Black Cow, Kid Charlemagne, Do it Again would be great reactions too... Can I suggest again: Stevie Ray Vaughan - Voodoo Child Live from Austin Texas... Love your channel and Lady Max, Thanks Yall!
I've not heard that since the 70s! Its brilliant. I liked it then, but, when I saw this video, I thought it was going to sound cheesy and naff. But, it sounds really cool. Real musicians playing. Real played music, not engineered. A real drummer. Not selected from a drop down menu! Thanks for the video. I might start to like music again now. The majority of music now is pretty dreadful and pretentious.
I'm a huge fan of Steely Dan, so the RUclips algorithm pointed me to this video, which made me smile. My favorite cut on the Aja album is Black Cow, which is also funky and also smooth, jazzy, and sophisticated. I think you'll like it.
My favourite album. Wore out the cassette, wore out the CD and on the way to wearing out the flash drive. Or maybe Gaucho is my favourite album? Just dunno. Anyway, greetings from NZ.
Excellent song, I bought the album when it first came out. Great album, three are other fantastic, blow your mind songs even from their first album.Donald and Walter were perfectionists!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻Try Dr. Wu, My Old School, Bhodisatva,Reelin’ in The Years, And so much more, of course the title track to AJA.
Howdy, Lady Max! Greetings, Mojo! You bringing up "Peg" made me nostalgic, for I may have been your first request, piggybacking off your love for SD with "Any Major Dude Will Tell You". Anyway, you can never go wrong with this song. This was indeed a fantastic album, a feast for the feet, the ears, and the mind.
Remember "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon?" With the musicians Fagen and Becker used, you could do One Degree of Steely Dan and draw a straight line to "Layla," "The Music from Peter Gunn," the Eagles, the Beatles, and scores more.
@@LucilleBrawl17 I believe you're referring to Bob Mintzer, who's worked with the Yellow Jackets, among many others. I am not aware of him being on any Steely Dan recordings. In one interview, he claimed to have performed on Fagen's "Kamakiriad" album, but his name was left off the credits.
Ahhh Josie ...Candlelight -Winner of best setting for a Steely Dan reaction video - Waiting patiently for Green Earrings and The Caves of Altamira - btw,got another scriber here
Damn, I like you brother. I Myself have had this same conversation with my own significant other trying to explain the significance of Steel Dan. Weird...
As you know , another album , like Dark Side , that you’ll have fun reviewing every track - hope you do You should also put on your list a few other great 70’s albums to delve into ; Alan Parsons Project - I Robot Supertramp - Crime of the Century Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees PS - not from Aja , but also check out the tongue in cheek post apocalyptic Steely Dan track King of the World - great groove ( have the lyrics handy )
Great 70's album choices! I like that you alluded to "Dark Side of The Moon" and "Aja" in the same sentence. I've always thought that "Pink Floyd" and "Steely Dan" take you into their own worlds with their music. There are few GREAT bands that can do that.
Hi MojoDaddyMystic. I just wanted you to know that I just wrote on my blog "My Top 10 Favorite RUclips Reactions to Music We Grew up Listening to" and this one is on my list. Hope you like it. I shared it on my fb page too. Don't know if many will see it, but maybe. ttyl : )
Bernard Purdie, Wilton Felder, Joe sample, etc wern't studio musicians! Just sayin. Great Channel btw. Here's the edit (actually it's an addition): I not sure when the word afro came along but back in those day's it was called a natural.
Aja album the masterpiece of masterpieces 😉
Just don't tell her where the band's name originates from, heh.
Absolutely
With Gaucho a close second.
"Prays like a Roman with her eyes on fire". What a line.
Ides...Ides on fire...Ides
My close friend of over 60 years, Jim Keltner, is the drummer on this song!
Aja is one of those rare albums that is consistently, 100% fantastic from start to finish, without a single clunker or second-rate song. And "Josie" is the perfect song to introduce someone to that album, as it is immediately accessible, you love it on the first listen.
Love the smile on her face throughout the entire song! Steely Dan is a deep, deep, rabbit hole to journey through!
Fun fact: Steve Gadd on drums for Aja track did the recording. 6 or so months later Fagen asked Gadd to hear the track -- Steve listened and asked who was on drums. This was during his "high" stage. First take as well.
All the musicians were great, but the drums/bass are particularly awesome on this one. Uber-tight, punchy and funky.
You’re a great ambassador to the old music. And the lady has a lovely smile. Best of luck on the Steely Dan exploration. Don’t forget my favorite, “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number.”
And don't forget to mention the direct homage to jazz great Horace Silver that opens that song.
Green Earrings is ridiculous
Serious eye candy...
One of the best bands America ever produced and I love this song to pieces. They brought a mature musical sense to pop/rock music spiced with jazz, funk, reggae, country. You're correct about their production, the arrangements, how each instrument is given its space.
I love watching people listen to this band I’ve adored for so many years for the first time.
I love bumping Steely Dan.
I bought that album in 1978 and it is still the best music I've ever got wore that disc out!
Steely Dan, one of the greatest sounds in rock.....
After 4.5bn years of evolution along came Donald and Walter; how lucky we are.
R.I.P. Walter, R.I.P. Ricky Lawson.
Green Earrings, the final track they performed with their Plush T.V. concert is probably my favourite performance of any of their work.
Love how you explained Steely Dan to your streaming partner! None better than Steely Dan!!
It’s so nice to see young people giving our old music a try. ☺️
Steely Dan,less a band,more a concept.

"Reeling In The Years" 1972
"Bodhisattva" 1973
"Kid Charlemagne" 1976 &
"FM" (No Static At All) 1978
Thank you for the joy you've given me.😊
First 10 albums barely had a bad song on them. The Dan is the man.
Aja is their best album imo. Both Fagan and Becker were perfectionists and every note and part is exactly how they wanted it. THIS!!
I couldn't help but smile every time Lady Max did, and that was a lot of times. Great reaction! She'll probably be touched by Deacon Blues, do that asap!
I could see right from the beginning that she liked what she was hearing.
She might have just found her new favorite band!
Excellent choice for 1st steely Dan song. One of my favorites too and I go back to when Aja came out in 1978. Well done.
Pretty sure the album's name is pronounced like "Asia". Just FYI.
Almost, but not quite ... like the difference between "Win" and Nguyen
In addition to being another great reaction video, I have to say that Lady Max is soooooo cute and her smile made me smile! 😁
Nice to hear some love for the Steely ones.
There were more than 40 studio musicians on the Aja album
This is the album that audiophiles use to test new stereo equipment
Lady Max has quite the journey ahead getting to know the incredible material of this band. I've been fortunate enough to have seen them live a couple of times over the years and have never seen a tighter band. If I have to choose one word to describe them that word has to be Awesome. What a stunning lady. Oh yeah...love the Dan as well!
This is why the seventies was just one big party...and all you needed was a loud FM stereo/radio..
Can't Buy a Thrill..Countdown to Ecstasy..Royal Scam: their best 3..plus all sorts of other tunes from the other albums..
I was 12 when this came out... I still LOVE THEM.
Nice one! I'm a huge Steely Dan fan. Josie is a soulful funky little jam with a nice edge. Thanks.
I've not heard that since the 70s! Its brilliant. I liked it then, but, when I saw this video, I thought it was going to sound cheesy and naff. But, it sounds really cool. Real musicians playing. Sooooo many fantastic things came out it 77. Fleetwood mac rumors..star wars etc....
Excellent choice. Aja is a great album and Aja is a perfect song.
You did start on a great one. May I suggest the title cut, followed by 'Home At Last'? Amazing album.
Yeah 70s and all that stuff like bell bottoms and afros but Josie was NOT played in any disco. SD fans wouldn’t come within 5 miles of a disco.
* Glamour Profession from Gaucho was played in a lot of discos back then....
"SD fans wouldn’t come within 5 miles of a disco", unless they dated beautiful disco women :-)
Not true!!!
I danced my ass off in discos and then went home and danced til daybreak to The Dan!!!
@@sv3931 I'm a Steely Dan fan and I love disco
My Favority album
Fagan and Becker referred to SD an "aesthetic"
Love your reactions! That's how it's done. Enjoy what your doing.
2 very nice smiles!
I'm a huge fan of Steely Dan, so the RUclips algorithm pointed me to this video, which made me smile. My favorite cut on the Aja album is Black Cow, which is also funky and also smooth, jazzy, and sophisticated. I think you'll like it.
I have to admit that the 1st thing I noticed is that both of you have great smiles. Like a poster for a dentists office. ;-)
Just can't stay still to this one. Wore out Aja at parties in the late 70's and early 80's Goodtime feel music!
My favourite album. Wore out the cassette, wore out the CD and on the way to wearing out the flash drive. Or maybe Gaucho is my favourite album? Just dunno. Anyway, greetings from NZ.
Excellent song, I bought the album when it first came out. SD, such a groove!
They went through almost 100 musicians in just accounted of years
Amazing Fact my brother!
Thanks, that was a good start. Next do “Aja” and “Home at Last” and from The Royal Scam check out “Kid Charlemagne”.
Remember "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon?" With the musicians Fagen and Becker used, you could do One Degree of Steely Dan and draw a straight line to "Layla," "The Music from Peter Gunn," the Eagles, the Beatles, and scores more.
Don Mintzer (I believe is his name) played sax for Steely Dan, Queen, and Jaco Pastorius, among others, but they are my three favorite ever.
Yep, see it's impossible to listen to the Dan and not smile.
Tons of stuff to explore. Favorite song is "My Old School" but it's hard to go wrong.
You guys gotta do Black Cow by Steely Dan. Smooth, rock/jazz/soul.
Ahh....the funky Steely Dan......" When Lady Max comes on its so bad she's the best thing we never had"...oops my bad yall lol got carried away
More Steely Dan, Talking Heads, and Rolling Stones!
I was17 years old when this came out
Okay, I'm in (subscribed). You know what you are talking about. And it's fun to watch a kindred spirit.
a tie dye t shirt and VW microsbus. excellent
Great light. Can you raise the light so we can see you bathed in the dancing light too.
Excellent
Ahhh Josie ...Candlelight -Winner of best setting for a Steely Dan reaction video - Waiting patiently for Green Earrings and The Caves of Altamira - btw,got another scriber here
Why am I watching your RUclips? Because you are actually moving to the music, ie a visual emotional response!
I want to see a 10th reaction, when you are really "into" the music!
indeed... indeeeed!
Great song to jam to. I might suggest Porcupine Tree / blackest eyes
Kid Charlemagne has a "sample" I bet she knows. SD has all good music.
Great reaction! What is that cool light?lamp?
Lady Max is the Bomb
Ah!!!!!!! Steely Dan ....eat candy indeed 😎
Treat yourself to "I've Got The News" and "Show Biz Kids"
To pick a good SD song you just have to throw a dart.
Damn, I like you brother. I Myself have had this same conversation with my own significant other trying to explain the significance of Steel Dan. Weird...
Listen to Love! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_(band)
Great tastes.
FIST TIME HERE..👍😎
As you know , another album , like Dark Side , that you’ll have fun reviewing every track - hope you do
You should also put on your list a few other great 70’s albums to delve into ;
Alan Parsons Project - I Robot
Supertramp - Crime of the Century
Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees
PS - not from Aja , but also check out the tongue in cheek post apocalyptic Steely Dan track King of the World - great groove ( have the lyrics handy )

Hi MojoDaddyMystic. I just wanted you to know that I just wrote on my blog "My Top 10 Favorite RUclips Reactions to Music We Grew up Listening to" and this one is on my list. Hope you like it. I shared it on my fb page too. Don't know if many will see it, but maybe. ttyl : )
Throw in my votes for 'Aja' and 'Deacon Blues'.
Aja is the Best Album.
You are very educated on steely Dan.... The greatest album for me is royal scam
Gotta do "Black Cow"
The "tempo" is lightly accelerate, not in the way, for sure. Try to listen the original.
She's heard steely Dan..... Kanye West along with many others sample their songs
Bernard Purdie, Wilton Felder, Joe sample, etc wern't studio musicians! Just sayin. Great Channel btw. Here's the edit (actually it's an addition): I not sure when the word afro came along but back in those day's it was called a natural.
You should redo the "Peg" reaction with your gal. :)
coming on a bit strong there a bit My friend
It amazes me how many black people have totally closed their mind and only listen to hip hop.
Your lady looks like she would be a fun date ; )
Doesn't sound right to me cause the speed is up...
First open your mind ..........
