Interesting detail about the shadowlands cinematic symbolism, it actually kind of represents what serie said about magic turning the world upside down perfectly, because if you remember, when the sky shattered above ice crown citadel, Torghast was literally emerging out of the shattered sky UPSIDE DOWN, which suggests that the shadowlands as whole might have been upside down in comparison to the regular world.
I watched a video where someone broke down the frames of the scene in which Frieren releases the beam. In the final frame before she does her silhouette turns into Serie. I think this is because resolving the barrier is like a math equation - you start from the answer and go backwards until you reach the beginning of it (Serie).
i love how good the writing is because on the first day Frieren tells the girls that they don't have to fight on day1, because Frieren needed the entire first day to analyze the barrier, so that the girls can have rain on the second day. Also i love Serie's reaction on the barrier breaking, she seemed a little bit proud to me like: "you grew up a bit, little girl" type of energy. Btw Serie is doing a huge service to humanity's magic, if anything Frieren would be grateful (and she probably is), she's also not someone anyone can fight in my opinion, Frieren would know that too.
I like Series voice. In the meantime you must know whose character your remember with that voice - from one of my previous favourite anime, so imagine my joy..
Flamme's voice actress has passed away. It seems that when she was acting Flamme, she was aware that she was dying. Knowing this makes her greatness stand out. RIP.
I don't know if anyone else agrees but I think there's a really cool double meaning in the "lesson" that Richter provides to Lawine and Kanne about how magic works. Lawine tells Richter he's brave to get so close to a mage that can control water given that a huge portion of the human body's contents contain water. I think it's telling that Richter's response isn't to Lawine, but rather he looks at Kanne and, paraphrased, says "Can you imagine how the water in the body is distributed? How would you remove it? Even if you could, how would you do it against a mage with more maa than you? You can't picture any of that, and magic can't do what its caster can't imagine." I think his purpose was more than a lesson and more than expositional. I think in that moment he was unsure whether Kanne could do such a thing, and he was sewing doubt into her mind as a way of avoiding that possibility. Later on, (no spoilers) it is shown that to some casters whose minds work differently, things that would normally not make sense and would be beyond the imaginations of most mages simply work for those who think differently. I bet Richter has the experience to know this and in the short time he's talking down to Kanne about her limits, he's praying to the Goddess that Kanne doesn't have the confidence to try manipulating his blood and that Lawine won't talk her up so much that she starts to believe she could.
When you think of the fact that, not only did Frieren analyze and take down the barrier. But she finished analyzing it while fighting with Denken. Crazy how smart and strong she is. Also the LN are amazing if you are into reading them.
I also like the battle details. You really see a magic fight not just random effects. If you pay attention, you see the arrows Frieren shot at Denken. He blocked all, BUT one that was shot random behind him. Frieren calculated his move and fired one attack in a wide swing to suprise him later for the final defeat( He thought she missed him).
to be fair Frieren was analyzing the barrier since the day before, which is why she told the girls to not fight on the first day, because she knew that for the girls to win they would've needed the rain, but Frieren needed a whole day to take the barrier down.
I don't think that needing more than a day to analyze a barrier cast by the oldest and strongest mage in the entire world that was cast using Mythical Age magic takes away from just how insane a feat that was. Even Serei herself was pleasantly surprised. And to do some of the analyzing while fighting just takes it to another level.
I believe the answer about Kanna is in the episode itself, they studied in magic schools, while Fern studies magic in a more archaic way, probably among the natural elements that she could put mana in, water was the best for her
Almost all human mages specialize in one type of magic so far. Fern also specializes in one type of magic, Demon Killing Zoltraak. Denken and Flamme are the only exceptions so far.
@@ryanlarkin9783 Yes, however Fern herself can use other spells, popular spells, they must have other attacks too, but it is just speculation, however as she herself said, she can only use the basics at Frieren's request during fights
Frerien concealed her true amount of mana works again. Denken misjudged the situation by going for the all out attack that should exhaust Freirens mana by forcing her into using defensive magic in a full bubble. If Denken knew her true mana he'd never of made an attack that was doomed to fail and put himself at such a disadvantage.
Modern day spells cost too much mana. This is why Frieren taught Fern to use in fights only ordinary offensive spell - its quick to cast, it costs less mana, since its older spell the mind of the caster can control it more efficiently since it's used to it.
Great reaction review, once again. Many of your questions will be answered in the next test. Why is there air? Why is there water? Why is there a Fern for every Frieren? Strap your seat belts on, next up is one hell of a rocky road hi.
His clones are so OP it will probably work like normal. If it does anything else that would give him away too easily. Maybe that's how Serie called him out, she is just using x-ray vision at all times lol.
I think the reason Kanne only uses water is the same as the guy who uses the metal petals from Wirbel’s crew, Land (glasses guy) said those type of mages tend to neglect the basics
Pretty much every human mage in the world so far (besides one or two standouts) specializes in one type of magic. Fern is no exception. She specializes in Zoltrakk (demon killing modified version).
Denken's fisticuffs scene is just so cool. Not only did it make Denken an absolute badass, he also gave the defeated party a dignified exit.
It’s great you guys love the OST, it’s honestly a masterpiece. 70 themes in the album and nearly all are 10/10!

Good reaction to the episode, a couple of days ago the person who voices Flamme died. 😢
Serie is lowkey proud of frieren lmao
You are right! Serie is not honest with herself, and is a very contrary person, saying one thing, but doing another.
I like Series voice. In the meantime you must know whose character your remember with that voice - from one of my previous favourite anime, so imagine my joy..
Serie has a great VA 😎
shadowland comparison is very interesting, must be some kind of collective subconsciousness

Denken the high-dense-fist-ically magic user.
Finally someone that noticed that the barrier scene almost looks the same as the Shadowlands cinematic!
The voice actress of Flamme passed away in the past few days. She also played Konan in Naruto. Rest in peace.
12:14 I think that at this moment, Denken knew he was going to spoil this girl rotten.

Isn't the first time either. It's a really good chance she did the same thing to Auras magic.

I bet that Frieren can hold a full barrier at least a few hours without interruption
@pierluigidipietro8097 Imagine the 2024 Mage Olympics event Barrier Endurance challenge lol
Frieren and Denken this episode 🔥

Spoiler:
Flamme passed away.
SPOILER QUESTION:
If Fern used the see through clothes spell on Land in the cave, what would happen?
