The girl one was the first reactor who i watched, cried while watching this episode, I also cried while watching this episode. Also the same girl, it will be better if someone died. The guy said What's wrong with you, so it's better if people died? hahaha. The same emotional person made a statement like that. hahaha. There are bad people, but there's still good people out there. It's just his luck he keeps meeting with bad people. To meet good people for him is kind of rare events.

She loves learning new knowledge about new drugs and esp drug like resurrection is interesting for her. A girl named Suirei knew about the drug and even used it for herself, Mao Mao would love to learn how she did those, the effects of the drug, the ingredients, etc. But Lakan somehow had gut feelings something's not right but didn't take actions. If he did take actions, they may find out early about this and Mao Mao may get the drug and knowledge of it.

It isn't shown, but an important detail about Ah-Duo giving birth is that, the current emperor was there (based on my observation after watching this show so many times). It is even stated that she is not in the state to make such crucial decision as swapping the babies.

At the 42:00 mark, You have to understand that Lakan has a disease called prosopagnosia. These prevents him from seeing almost everyone's faces and recognizing them. This make him a somewhat cold person because he is unable to emotionally connect with people except for a very small select few. Later at the 51:20 mark you were surprised about Lakan being drunk after one cup. It is likely Maomao used extremely strong distilled alcohol, which if too much is consumed can have ill effects. In the USA you can purchase a Polish vodka called Spiritus which 192 Proof (96% pure). I had one shot back at University and it has a kick like all get out. A whole cup especially for someone who does not drink would have the effect as in the anime.

Loumen was easily able to cure Mao Mao's mother during the first stage of her illness because he is highly skilled in herbal medicine , surgical procedures and western medicine but most people in that brothel misunderstood Lakan's love for Mao Mao's mother and the way he was forced by his family elders to leave the country thinking that he send his uncle to "kill" the woman he hurt to hid "evidence" also to keep his aristocratic clan's reputation away form visiting brothels ( the brothel manager let Loumen adopt Mao Mao and cure her mother about 3 to 7 years later when it's was too late , he was only able to give her pain medication instead of completely cure her )

RE: Maomao and Jinshi - you have to realize, as a girl who grew up in and near the brothels, Maomao has a very twisted view of interpersonal relationships and the use and misuse of power between classes. This has coloured her perspective on male-female relationships as well as romance. Also, consider who her parents are - a cold and aloof mother driven crazy by syphilis and a brilliant father who suffers from a mental disorder. Cues that may be obvious to us as normal people may not be interpreted by Maomao in the same way... but consider the fact that Maomao's first impression of Jinshi was that he's beautiful, and she keep commenting on his qualities, even if in a disparaging or cynical way. RE: Lahkan - Lahkan wasn't trying to kill Jinshi - but he has a brilliant intuitive intelligence that COULD have prevented Jinshi's death, but (and it's the thing that Maomao despises him for) decided to do nothing. Recall that when Maomao was struck with the mallet and Lahkan came to her rescue, he didn't see her face - one of the only two face he can see - until Jinshi carried her unconscious from the tower. That was when he realized who the girl that was struck by the mallet was. The genius of this anime is turning Lahkan into the most loathed person into a sympathetic tragic figure in a single episode is crazy. RE: The Blue Roses - the explanation is very simple... until you realize that back then, dyes are very expensive luxuries and that only experts had even a basic understanding of botany. It is only due to government general education that we understand most of us find this very simple and basic concept. RE: The game Lahkan and Maomao played: it is Xiangqi and is colloquially called Chinese Chess (same family of boardgame as Western Chess and shogi). You have pieces that can only travel along the lines and can only rest at line intersections. Also, there are specific places on the board that restrict or change piece movement, such as the Palace and the River. I used to play this with my father when I was young, but was never really good at it. I was even worse at Go.

He offered the money to twst if he coukd trust him not just around maomao, but in general. Now that he knows he idnt bribe-able, he has another ally he can work with when something goes wrong who isnt prone to taking bribes

I think if you liked Apothecary, some anime that may be similar - in a sense - you might like Story of Saiunkoku which spans 2 seasons. There's also The Twelve Kingdoms. Both these titles are quite old-ish? Like early 2000s anime. There's also Yona of the Dawn (really good one btw, characters have magic powers but does not feel out of place), and Raven of the Inner Palace (which i heard is really good and is often compared to Apothecary because of the mystery). All these titles are set in a Historical Chinese Fantasy settings. Lastly, I recommend Kemono no Souja Erin or The Beast Player Erin, it's different because it's set in just a Fantasy Historical setting with its own world and own systems, the story revolves a little girl named Erin who finds herself taming beasts just like her mother did. All with interesting stories and smart female MC's. Not sure if Chillih would enjoy but I know Nesa might lol

It's funny that Chillih kept insisting Lakan was the bad guy that wanted Jinshi dead but if you think about it very closely, despite Lakan's powerful position, if it was ever found out he was the one who wanted Jinshi dead (who's supposed to be a VERY important and powerful person in the palace as well), the Emperor could potentially have him killed or exiled for it even if he IS the strategist lol also Lakan requesting Jinshi to present the Blue Roses at the garden party is basically a powerful move, but he's annoyed that he was able to do it as well because he was testing Jinshi if he was capable to make such a political move in front of all the officials there. honestly, everyone thought Lakan was emotionless but he has a soft spot over his daughter and Fengxian.

The previous emperor and the empress dowager (her name is Anshi) had the current emperor (at at least 10-11 years old, yeah i know...), after that the previous emperor and Anshi had another one, which was swapped with Ah-Duo and their first son, that baby is Jinshi. the one Ah-Duo was swapped with eventually died because he was fed honey as a baby. we don't actually know if Jinshi knows his true origins... nor do we know if the Emperor knows but he might if Ah-Duo told him.

Maomao mentioned (inner monologue, really) that Gaoshun and Basen look alike during the metal melting mystery with the brothers. I don't remember if you both wondered about that comment from her or not.
